AT&T and Verizon Pre Plus and Pixi Plus available for free through HP 37

by Derek Kessler Sat, 03 Jul 2010 2:46 pm EDT

Free Pre Plus from HP

If you’re the contract signing type, HP has the deal for you. Through their newly-launched HP Wireless Central store you can snag a Palm Pixi Plus or Pre Plus on AT&T or Verizon for the upfront sum of free, with free shipping via FedEx. Of course, you are still locking yourself into a two-year contract to save those bucks, but saved bucks are saved bucks, right? And if you spring for the Pre Plus (it’s just as free as the Pixi Plus, so why wouldn’t you?), HP will also throw in a free Renegade Bluetooth headset (valued at $49.99), an Axiom leather case ($29.99), and a car charger ($19.99).

Strangely, Sprint is still stubborn as usual on their pricing, with the more-than-a-year-old Pre still retailing for $99.99 and the Wi-Fi-less Pixi at $19.99. With all this cash you’re saving, we’re going to point you towards the PreCentral accessory store where you can pick up some more sweet gear, like a Touchstone charger or a better Bluetooth headset.

Man, that is a sweet deal!

sprint charges significantly less each month for the bill, so most phones will cost more up front, simply because they can't afford to subsidize them as much.

but that being said, it may also have more to do with pushing to get the ATT/VZW stock dwindled down to Sprint levels before announcing the new hardware.

I 100% agree. I'd personally pay more for a phone (once) and less for the plan (monthly). I still think Sprint has the best deal.

I do agree with you GPS,Sprint sold more Palm Pre than
VZW and AT&T,even thu the handset cost more on Sprint,
VZW/ AT&T with the price they are charging per plan, hard to find a buyer... VZW still they have alots of the Pre plus and Pixi, they never sold out yet,and I bet you AT&T too.

Sprint has had the Palm Pre for over a year now, while AT&T has only had the Pre Plus since May 16th. The Palm Pre on AT&T has already sold more units than Verizon has sold.

Now, you have some other issues that you have not taken into account, such as the reports of low quality units from Sprint hurting the reputation of these devices. There was a huge surge of interest in the Palm Pre when it first launched, but considering comments here on precentral, many people on Sprint have had MANY replacements of their Pre phones, yet on Verizon and AT&T, the satisfaction level seems higher.

Do you think that there would be the same surge in sales of the iPhone 4 if it launched on Verizon in September, since newer phones will be faster than the iPhone 4? There would be a good number of sales, but just not nearly the surge you saw for the AT&T launch.

You get the idea. Now, if you compare sales of the Palm Pre vs. Palm Pre Plus from May 16th to today across carriers, you would get a better idea of the true numbers.

I don't think it is so sweet, would still opt for a Sprint contract that either of these other 2.

I literally JUST ordered a Pixi Plus from ATT three days ago... I was eyeballing the Pre Plus and now Im not so happy... I better love the form factor and the blue back.

Wait, I take that back, the ATT ad right next to this post says the Pre Plus is $50. So the line "its just as free as the Pixi" is really misleading.

ATT Ad vs. HP Ad. AT&T may have different promotions/deals than HP has. Happens all the time! :-)

Looks like they're really trying to move inventory.

Me thinks Sprint is keeping the prices high in anticipation of new hardware. Either they're low on stock and don't want to have to order more before a new phone drops, or they'll be dropping the price to free soon because a new piece of hardware is dropping. Just thoughts, I'm no businessman.

I will never leave Sprint :D with the discount I get on my bill.. What pplz pay for 1 line on AT&T or Verizon.. I have 2 lines on Sprint ;) plus I really don't have that many complaints about their network where ever I go ( live in NYC, go alot to Tampa & Atlanta & San Diago)
I just want to get an idea of when some new hardware is dropping. Imo I think to wait for next yr is a bad move, it's like HP would be repeating the so many mistakes that Palm did.. But if so, I'm loyal enough to use my upgrade now just to change from my Pre to a Pixi and then next yrs upgrade use that for the new hardware.. What to do what to do?

You must driving big truck.

huh?

They don't even have Palm Pres/Pixis on display at the Sprint stores around me.

Me either. Was shocked to see that.

I hope for Palm(before HP)hardware that was in the pipeline before the buyout within the next weeks. Then at CES, the announcement of HP/ Palm super duper hardware that will have the specs of a jet engine and be solid like a tank.

And when is exactly that "new hardware" coming to Sprint? Freakin Verizon and ATT have the Pre Plus, we got nothing!

The Sprint Pixi is Free at Best Buy

What I like about verizon are mobile hot spots and the fact you are eligible for pre even if your two years are not up!

Hmmm... I wonder if I can get the Pre on AT&T for free if I just got a new phone 3 months ago?

No doubt about it: it's the Wild West out there in smartphone land--the next few years promise to be quite a ride!

For me, it's 6 more months or so with my year-old Sprint Pre, then it'll be time to look elsewhere if HP/Palm don't come out with a significant upgrade. But I admit: it sure would be hard to leave the WebOS and the heavenly multitasking....

Your nice, I'm only giving them 3 more months to have something out. I hate to leave webOS, but my pre isn't quite holding up well.

the pixi doesnt have a keyboard?? O.o or am i seeing things edit: my bad, its a pre with blue around it

all of you ATT and VZW Pre owners are getting ripped off. You can save $40 to $100 per month on Sprint depending on your plan. I am sticking with Sprint. I have had ATT and VZW, I have had better coverage than the other two.

There are Sprint unlimited data plans with hotspot for 25 bucks?

I'll stick to Verizon's network for 65.

I am so excited! This must mean a new phone is coming soon.

Why is it, every time there is an article that involves ATT and/or VZW, the Sprint customers have to chime in that (1) they are getting ripped off, because they don't have the plus versions of the Pre/Pixi; and (2) all the ATT/VZW owners are getting ripped off because of the cheaper packages at Sprint?

If the article DOESN'T APPLY TO YOU, don't feel the need to reply. Move on to the next one, please.

Thanks. :)

i would guess that your comment does not actually apply to this article, because it is clearly written in the text of this specific story:

"Strangely, Sprint is still stubborn as usual on their pricing, with the more-than-a-year-old Pre still retailing for $99.99 and the Wi-Fi-less Pixi at $19.99."

so, you must mean some other article, right?

You're just bitter that Free phones are way too expensive and somebody got a better deal and service. We'll get over it. Will you?

I'm long time Sprint customer but you can't say someones getting ripped off because Sprint works for you doesn't mean it works where they live and work. They probably have no choice but to get ripped off because those carriers maybe their only choices in their neck of the woods. If ain't on Sprint I will never own it!

I received a tweet earlier today from this site with this offer and I placed the order after viewing it on my Sprint Pixi.

I also have a Palm Centro with AT&T that I wanted to replace with a Pre-Plus and the best deal I could get from AT&T online was $49.99 + free s/h (the stores could not even match that). I called the number listed and proceeded to place the order; my total charged is $9.99 for s/h. I am a bit concerned now, as the tweet read "precentral - AT&T and Verizon Pre Plus and Pixi Plus available for free through HP http://bit.ly/cduYbE" ???IS THIS REALLY HP???

However, the site itself actually lists the following in it's disclaimer "This site is owned and operated by Simplexity, LLC an independent business not affiliated to Hewlett-Packard Company or any of its affiliates or subsidiaries. Purchases of products and other business dealings and interactions under this website are made with Simplexity, LLC and any subscription for services is from the identified carrier. Any submission of information you do while on this site is governed by the privacy policy of Simplexity, LLC and not that of Hewlett-Packard." !!!IT IS DEFINATELY HARD TO READ THAT SMALL TEXT ON A PIXI!!!

I rely on precentral.net's guidance, I hope I was not lead astray and that this is a legit company and that my transaction is safe.

No need to fear, you purchased your phone from the right place. I was scared of it at first too, but HP's website actually links to the site (http://www.cellstores.com/mobile/?r=hp) from their home page. They refer to it as their "affiliate site". Simplixity is legit.

Not quite as free as they'd like you to think. Looks like they charge $30 activation fee per phone and $10 shipping, whereas activation fees are typically waived on the provider websites as well as free overnight shipping. That said, it can still be a good deal, especially for AT&T customers (since the Pre is $150 from their site), plus you get the free accessories.

I'll pay the $99 for the phone on Sprint in lieu of having to pay an extra $70/month for the same plan on AT&T or Verizon.

I think that the Sprint deal is still better. I have simply everything and really wouldn't like to have worry about how much I've used the internet...

The Pre's hardware really isn't anything to write home about. I just had to replace my unit, again, for the 4th time. It was generally a trouble free affair, but c'mon, 4 times? HP needs to address that problem. Maybe change suppliers. There were poeple in the store who were Pre owners, switching to Android phones, not because the software was better, but because the hardware was reputed to be more reliable.
The 4G Android phone I messed with in the store....Not impressed. Too big. I prefer the Web OS interface. It's much cleaner and easier to use.

why do you have simply everything when any data any mobile is way cheaper?
