AT&T Palm Pre price drop brings parity across carriers 16
A mere few after AT&T started offering a refurbished Palm Pre for $49.99 after contract, they've dropped the price of a brand new Palm Pre to just a penny more to online customers, $50 after contract. This follows a couple of months at the $99 price point on big blue and mercifully does not require a mail-in rebate. The AT&T version of the Pixi Plus is still free and still the only webOS phone in the US unable to play the wider variety of 3D games available with webOS 1.4.5.
All three major carriers are now offering the Palm Pre (or Pre Plus) at $50 after contracts and rebates and the Pixi (or Pixi Plus) for free under the same terms. We'd argue that the Verizon version is still one of the most under-rated deals in wireless, as it's the only two phones on the market that come with WiFi Hotspot at no additional charge.

I hope the new device comes out soon, Windows 7 is being showcased in October and they have more than 1.3 GHz devices with dual camera's and 576MBRAM's. Since palm plans on releasing only one device a year, I hope they come out with a great hardware that puts others to shame for a long time to come. Then these older devices should still be there and made available for 50 dollars from H/P off contract.
CES is just around the corner and the pre looks like might be getting an update
CES Jan 2011 would be too late for pre-2. That is the time to demonstrate the tablet, not the new phone.
That's exactly what needs to happen. Pre successor by November, with tablet and Pixi successor unveiled at CES 2011.
when will the cpu rating begin to take a back seat to speed. I don't care what cpu it has, I just want speed. I love the new prices and I think it shows that new phones will be out soon. I look forward to webOS 2.0 with more speed. Go Palm!
The free WiFii hotspot is unbelievable on Verizon. I just had 4 devices connected for 5 days and worked like a charm...........
I am still just looking forward to a 1.4.5 update to my att pixi+! i wonder how long it will take carriers to roll out the 2.0 update.
there's no plans for 1.4.5 on the at&t pixi
Can I ask how you know this? I've heard from a few different places that they will release it sometime definitely before the end of the year at the latest, they're just working out 'security issues', whatever that means. Have you heard different? Or do you believe they will go straight to 2.0?
I went to Best Buy in Madison Heights, MI yesterday and they no longer are displaying a Pre or Pixi. They have nothing in stock and they advised me to get the Epic or Evo. I would have to special order a Pre or Pixi if I wanted one. I noticed that they had 3 Evos and 3 Epics on displays.
What was funny was what the employee told me about Palm. He said, " Palm is no longer making phones because HP bought them out. You have to move on to Android to get the best experience possible."
Thanks, Dieter, for the 5 minutes of fame! haha j/k Well, I'm off to find the closest ATT store! :)

And, not to mention, free crippled GPS! Such value!
they also dropped the no-commitment price from 299 to 249 :) sweet
Yeah, that was the whole reason I was excited. It wasn't really news being $50 on contract as you can get it other places cheaper. But that No Commitment Pricing is the star here.
Hmm it makes sense when it comes to business issues for this company. Looking forward to it definitely but i still think that tariff plans are way to high. If anyone is looking for an alternative like me, be sure to visit http://simtariff.com/. Nice and easy to use site with many plans from international providers
Damn! they increased the price again back to $399 !!!!
