AT&T Pre Plus drops to one cent on Amazon 33
While we can argue about the merits of subsidized phone contracts until we’re blue in the face, we can’t argue this: Amazon Wireless has the AT&T Palm Pre Plus on sale for $0.01. Sure, that’s one copper-plated zinc core Lincoln away from being free, but we’re sure you can find more than enough coinage buried between the couch cushions to cover this expense. Of course, you’ll still need to dig up plenty more coins to cover the cost of AT&T’s new data plans, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.
If you’re already on an AT&T plan and looking to upgrade, Amazon Wireless will hook up with a Pre Plus for $49.99 in upgrade pricing, but as with the once cent Pre Plus, you’re going to be signing a new two year contract to get that deal. We don’t know how long this pricing is going to last, but we do admit that it got down to one cent awfully darn quick. In the meantime, Amazon Wireless is offering free activation on AT&T phones and free two-day shipping on all phones. If you’ve been waiting to jump on the AT&T bandwagon, we don’t see a better time than now coming up. Unless you’re holding out for free.

Amazing.... I paid $200 for a lesser version of this phone 12 months ago
Hey self, that is not fair... The phone you bought has video recording 12 months later.
Full of self hate makes me sad
Welcome to the world of technology. Full price today...half price in 6 months and out the door for free in 12 months...that's just the way it is...
That's because Palm showed them the C40.
Not.
I have a feeling that these "interesting" deals are set out to clear most if not all units of Palm's 1st webOS smartphone - on the big 3 US carriers. Why? There is something going down in July (wink wink) that has to do with HP (wink wink) and the outcome (or at least a few days/weeks) after the outcome we'll finally get a glimpse of the next generation 3G/4G webOS smartphone from H/Palm powered by TI's OMAP4440 processor. It will be amazing indeed!!!
Didn't AT&T just launch this thing? That was fast, too fast.
That's what she said.... ZIIIIIING!
it's cause they are not selling. I bet they'd sell if the phones were pre-patched. Palm shouldv set patches as optional settings through out (or in a single) settings app
Yep, so it is a fact, the Pre doesn't sell well on any carrier in almost any country.. Sad..
If most AT&T stores are like the one I bought my Pre+ from, no surprise to me at all.
--> I walked into the store and saw no Palm *anything* (no displays, no demos, etc...).
--> They had one Pre+ for sale and it was in a back-room
--> The sales staff knew nothing about the Pre+. I basically bought a box-unknown for $399.00 and left the store.
Kind of hard for inventory to move when it's not 'sold'!
a return my pre plus today cuss baterry died 2 f3cking fast on 3g so am waiting for the iphone 4 best phone on the market
They would need to be clearing stock, because if thy aren't then they will have a hard time getting decent deals with carriers with this level of performance form the Pre.
All the same, what do Palm expect? It's an over year old phone that was top line when announced but not by release date, and is now miles behind every thing else in the market except the symbian phones, which aren't really seen as proper high end, and even they have the new s^3 OS coming out.
DO they really expect people to pay similar money to an iPhone 4 or Evo or N900? It doesn't matter how good the OS is, and it is good, but it's still buggy, hasn't introduced new features (video recording should have been standard) and STILL doesn't even have a proper sync client since Apple kicked it out of iTunes. Be realistic.
pretty soon they going to pay people to buy this phone lol
i have a pre plus on att the battery died so fast pre sucks iphone rocksss
rona809 no bashing here lol they will ban you forever palm owners are sensitive lol
I got my Pre Plus with Verizon on Amazon at the price too. Its better than going into a store and paying 50 and getting hassled to get a Droid.
idont care i return that crappy phone 2day so bye bye
So, the company with the one-cent flagship smartphone is supposed to launch a premium smartphone to compete with the EVO and iPhone 4 in a couple of months? I don't think so.
Let's face it. Palm is no longer a contender in the premium smartphone world. I'm sure that there will be smartphones with the Palm brand on them in the future. I just don't think that they will have the most aggressive specs. They seem to do better as free phones.
Did I miss something? I thought the AT&T Palm Pre Plus fell to $0.01 weeks ago...
With the Iphone 4 soon to come out i can imagine lots of customers debating on waiting for that over buying a pre or android phone. Thus AT&T lowering the price to try and move them.
I love my phone, and I wish there was some awesome WebOS device on the way out, but I am loosing hope, and I am loosing hope in Palms future as a Smartphone contender. I don't know what I want next. I know I wont be caught in the Apple trap, but it sure is tempting. Android really isn't cool. The new Nokia N8 is going to be awesome, but Symbian and I don't get along. Blackberry is out of the question. Damn Palm, they were the only one that really did convince me. Fix WebOS and put it on some wicked hardware. Thanks all..
Android may not be cool, but 2.1 plain works, and is far more flexible and configurable than anything else out there. And 2.2, which has already been applied to many rooted devices, offers huge performance gains. Android definitely isn't the best platform for gaming (have to hand that crown to Apple), but it's too useful for me to care about how "cool" it is.
One can hope that this is a solid sign of inventory clean-out.
Primarily for a new WebOS device, and Secondly in response to the new phones coming out.
I still have high hopes for Palm/WebOS. Many iPhone fanboys on this particular response. A bit of "Cockiness" now that their 4th generation phone is coming out. Sadly it is not really all that innovative, but will sell based on it's name.
I still have serious issue with the iOS Pseudo-Tasking...
Oh well! to each his/her own.
If I return the Pre I got direct from AT&T last week they will charge me an $18 "recycling fee". Even with that I would be better off doing that and then buying the Amazon version.
Hmmm.
I hate to say this but no one wants to buy the Pre, why would they? The Pre has become the laughing stock of all the smart phones and everyone puts it down including engadget, cnet, etc, they are all saying no ones's buying or wants the Pre. The Pre has been relegated to junk status its going the way of the Motorola startac (obsolete) and that was a good phone in its time. Lets face it no one gives a s**t about webos except the people on this site. It's a half baked laggy OS that needs a lot of work, sure its simple and can multi task well but that about it, it can barely stand on it's own without preware. It's slowly losing it's advantages to other OS's, multi tasking, card view, universal search, etc! Yes, it may do them better but no one cares all they know is their phone can do it. The worst thing is the Pre has the record for exchanges/returns,bad press and word of mouth, who wants to own junk like that. I don't even want to get into the lack of and the 3rd class apps given to webos. The Pre should be free because a penny is to much!
Yeah, I really fought for a while not to admit that, but much of what you said is very true. I hate the Pre now, but still like webOS (I should say the potential of webOS). But even the "webOS is better" argument reminds me of an exchange in Pirates of Silicon Valley.
Steve Jobs: We're better than you are! We have better stuff.
Bill Gates: You don't get it, Steve. That doesn't matter!
You're a dork. What a waste of time for you to be on a site dedicated to a phone you hate? Your family must be proud...
couldnt agree with you more kinster02
I purchased a Palm Pre with Sprint a month ago in part to take advantage of Sprint's better pricing. I enjoy the phone, in particular its size.
Is Palm planning any new phones?
Callderek, you're the dork for slagging someone for expressing an opinion.
The TROLLS are out! Lmao. Opinions are great as long as they're expressed with some sort of constructive elements. Scaramanga89, you're obviously of the same elk for being involved in a forum for a phone or platform that you think is worthless, what a waste of time for you. Maybe you should consider big brothers?
scaramanga89~ "That's an assinine comment, and I use a Pre. If you bought it because it had flash, you're a fool . I bought one because it had a hardware keyboard and I think webOS is easily the best mobile OS available. I just hope it sticks around, as it would be a real loss. Anyone who uses it loves it."
maybe I was wrong, sorry about that...
Let's hope Palm's hints about new devices means sooner, and not later. There are only two reasons for this kind of fire sale: no one's buying them, or Palm is clearing old models in preparation for new.
If it's not the latter, it may be too late.
Poor selling devices attract fewer developers. Less software makes the hardware a tougher sell. Vicious circle.
The real blame lies on the former Palm management. They rested on their laurels for far too long, then blew the replacement Palm OS big time, and finally sold off the one real asset they had when they sold PalmOS to Access: their UI designer team. (What ever happened to Access, anyway?) By the time Elevation and the new management took over, time was short, budgets and experienced staff even shorter.
That's not to say the new Palm hasn't made some huge mistakes, too.
WebOS has the potential to be the best platform on the market, but I can't wait any longer for it to reach that potential, nor for significant productivity apps to emerge. I finally bought an EVO. Maybe in a year or two, if HP manages to rescue Palm, I'll be back.
