AT&T Pre Plus / Pixi Plus promoted, they want your email 33

by Dieter Bohn Wed, 07 Apr 2010 11:22 am EDT

Life may move fast, but the wait for the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on AT&T certainly doesn't. AT&T feels your pain, so they've set up a a promo section for the little webOS devices that could where you can learn about the phone and - most importantly - punch in your email address to get the scoop on when it'll be available for purchase.

Not listed on the promo pages - the pricing. At announce, the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus on AT&T were set at $149.99 and $49.99, respectively. Now that Verizon has undercut those prices by a country mile, we're wondering if AT&T and Palm will stick to their guns on that pricing.

Thanks to grandebob for the tip!

old, I signed up for that when it as announced.

So where's the Sprint Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, are they just waiting until they run out of Pre and Pixi inventory or waiting for something bigger?

Eh, it was new to me. Glad to see AT&T getting behind Web OS. Their android page is horribly sparse.

This is indeed good stuff for both Palm and webOS...and even AT&T for backing the underdog! And if you're on Sprint (like me) please stop complaining about not having the + variants of the Pre/Pixi because we are definitely getting something next gen ;)

"...i am pleased to announce the world's first 4G webOS smartphone!"

=)

I am not going to whine about Sprint not having the + variants of each phone, but the wife is in the market for a phone NOW. I refuse to pay 150 for a Pre. Sprint has to lower the price, like yesterday. I am in a tough spot. Want to get her into Palm's world of webOS, stay on Sprint, but don't want to pay top $ for last year's phone, and don't want to wait till June (at the earliest?) for a C40 phone(?) I know nothing about.

It is times like this that being so tight lipped is killing me.

You can probably sell the phone you buy now on eBay in a couple of months and recoup some of your investment.

Palm should start dropping hints about a Pre II. So many nice phones coming out.

Heh. I moved *from* AT&T, one reason was to get the palm pre.

I don't regret it though. Sprint still saves me a crapload of money each month vs. AT&T. My bill is about $50 less per month for roughly the same services!

That's cool. I really hope Palm can pull through this down turn. I love webOS but Palm just needs a bigger, better phone.
If they can somehow get through this and decide to come out with a new phone, the phone needs to have at least a 1Ghz processor, at least a 3.8 inch screen, a way better slide out qwerty keyboard or just a touchscreen keyboard, better design, and last but not least.... improvement to webOS like: more than 3 app trays, option for widgets(the option should be able to be turned off if people like how it is now), and smoother software.
I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens...... but I'm not holding my breath for a new device from Palm, I'm getting the HTC EVO!!

WTH is your problem?! O.O
widgets are for android junkies who love clutter XD
go. go over to android central or whatever theyre calling it.
you are BANNED lmfao

we're getting something next gen. but the question is when?.

With no announcement at any of the big shows it may be a long wait.
Maybe Palm is really concentrating on getting the exiting phones on as many carriers as possible and not new hardware.

HTC EVO versus Palm Pre. which one would you choose? Easy decision for me.

Easy for me too.
Have you actually used an Android phone? It reminds me a WHOLE lot of WinMo and talk about being controlled. Google this and Google that....drives me nuts.

The HW spec is nice, the screen is nice and 4G is nice if you live in one of the handful of locations with 4G....I will wait for a new WebOS device.....and I will be willing to pay bigger bucks for one that has better quality HW.......but PLEASE keep the physical keyboard.

no worries on the keyboard.
palm's mentioned many times that theyd stick with the physical keyboard aspect -- i mean it would be kind of weird for a company named palm to sell phones without keyboards. what are they? apple? -rimshot-
anywho. ill wait for my 4G webOS sexy phone. my contract for this pixi ends late december. cant wait :D

Palm Tungsten series, Palm m5xx series, Entire Zire line, Palm III, Palm Pilot...

All original Palm devices, all don't have keyboards.

Treo 90 was the first one with a thumbboard, and it was a _Handspring_ thing.

Actually by the end of the year it will be a lot more than a handful of cities. Over 110 million people will have access to Sprint 4G. Lets hope Palm starts 'leaks' about any upcoming phone soon.

I hope they lower the price.
Considering how much I (would) pay... on verizon, cheaper and free 5g hotspot...

I hope at&t responds...

3g hotspot is verizon-only. palm stated that.
and wth is 5g? O.O

see theres going to eventually the same kinds of phones one each network but with special attributes on each network. for ex:

sprint will undoubtedly get the 4G pres and pixis (eventually im sure the pixi will have wifi)
verizon will keep the 3g hotspot function on its webOS models
at&t..who knows :O
and lets not talk about unlocked lol

slip of the fingers... NP... how will at&t respond to the price drops?
UNLOCKED... how about unbranded???

Finally, Palm appears to have a carrier who understands what makes WebOS so special. Maybe they can actually promote and sell it properly.

Now Palm just needs some shiny, new, more-attractive hardware to go with the groundbreaking OS. I can't imagine going back to the clunkiness of Android or Windows Mobile. If Palm can't make it on their own, PLEASE let them get bought out by a company who wants to carry WebOS forward.

The comment above from Benthe1 pretty much underscores a critical flaw (in my opinion) of Palm's strategy.

With PalmOS -- Palm had a pretty dedicated user base: not just because the phone was 'latest-greatest', but, because the important things worked *really well*. Same goes for the Crackberry situation. It's hard to convince somebody to drop an inferior phone (with well-integrated PIM features) for one that is better -- but, less dependable.

I've recently let my T|X fade into obscurity & am temporarily using a Crackberry. I plan to move again to a Pre with AT&T ... but, I'm a Palm fanboy (I still, perhaps foolishly, believe WebOS will be the closest possible replacement to my T|X).

The way I see it:
-Palm had to bring out all the flashy stuff (Synergy, 3D Gaming, etc...) in the first year to get people's attention

-If Palm is going to survive, they need to build brand loyalty. This is the *only* phone I know of that supports OTA sync with multiple calendars at the same time, etc.

-To build WebOS loyalty, it's back to the drug analogy. People are addicted to their Crackberries because it works and they see it as a lot of work to migrate. WebOS needs the Calendar+Tasks+Memos + ActiveSync + LocalSync, etc... stuff cleaned-up, rock-solid and business-friendly to do the same.

In short: Palm can't out-innovate the market all the time: they're just too small. The flashy stuff attracts people who want the latest-greatest phone and will hold onto the device for a year or less. There is a huge demographic out there of people who hold onto phones for 2+ years --> and, from there, hope to have a simple upgrade (ie: Pre -> Pre3 with an easy data conversion). Palm simply isn't paying this second group (2+ year users) enough attention.

Benthe1 -- not meant to be an attack / nothing wrong with wanting the latest-greatest.

palm isn't going to release new hardware when they are are just now getting out the Pre/Pixi pluses to all these new carriers. We're gonna have to wait till sept to expect anything new. I'm sure we'll find out what the C40 is around June tho

OOOOO!!! I want the wall paper for both the Pixi & the Pre from AT&T!!! Where can I get one?!?! Haha.

Edit: HERE IS THE WALLPAPER: =) http://m.forums.precentral.net/attachments/palm-pre-wallpapers/43873d126...

I knew Verizon was up to something the other day when they dropped their phones to measly chump change and offered the free wifi hotspot. They NEVER do these things to take care of their customers, they only do these things to keep people from going to other networks. Once they have the people and eliminate other options, they just raise the bill.

I so can't wait to leave them.

This is not news. That page has been up for weeks--since the announcement.

Give us actual news!! We are dying for a release date!

On that page they say "the only webos phone to support simultaneous voice and data" but I can definitely browse the web and stuff while talking on the phone. I'm on sprint :D

I'm hoping the prices drop right off the bat. I'd like to buy a Pre and Pixi model:)

I'm waiting to see how things turn out on ATT. Exciting that Palm is returning to ATT GSM finally. My wife has the Centro and she's never looking back. She loves her classic palm OS.
I'm probably getting the Pixi as I likes me a small phone. I'm not a multimedia consumer on my phones, nor a game player so the Pixi might do me just fine.
I go by Sprint and play with a Pixi every so often. hehe

I am hoping for a lower price point also so I can just get a 1 year contract if at&t does that?

Nope... no one year contract with AT&T... it will have to be 2 year.

By the way, I've been with AT&T for 13 years. So, all of my Palm phones have been through AT&T. Based on Palm history, AT&T always last (or 2nd to last) in receiving a Palm device.

My latest contract ends in 3 days. Will I be renewing? Hell-to-the-no! I will go month to month with my Centro until the Sprint PRE2 comes out then I'm outta there. Why? With my Palm devices, AT&T has repeatedly raked me over the coals in terms of cost.

So, I'm looking forward to getting next gen Sprint Palm device (even if it means a Sprint Palm Pre PLUS),saying hello to the 69.99 plan, being a Premier customer, and having the ability to upgrade after a year.
