AT&T targets students in Pixi ad 9

by Robert Werlinger Fri, 27 Aug 2010 12:54 pm EDT

Though it can be had for free on a two-year agreement on the US's largest wireless carrier (or even bundled with a laptop or with a $50 gift card from Palm's new parent company), AT&T is still actively advertising the diminutive handset in mailing campaigns across the country.  The latest evidence of this comes way of PreCentral reader orawas who spotted the above ad in WVU's student newspaper.  It does make sense that Palm and AT&T would target the student demographic; the Pixi is probably one of the best portrait QWERTY smartphones in the "free" category.

Have you seen any direct mail advertising from Palm/AT&T

Thanks, orawas!

Now that is kinda cool.

The only thing they might miss is an 8 a.m. class if they are relying on the Pre/Pixi as an alarm clock. :P (but then again, missing an 8 a.m. class is part of the college experience too)

My Pre has got me up everyday since it was release and I bought it.

kids at WVU are still drunk at 8am

and 'best four years'... come on, it will be the best 6 years of their lives

I don't get what you mean Mikey47! My Pre alarm wakes me up just fine for my early morning classes. Is there something specific you were referring to? (i.e. alarm volume, etc.) I use a custom ringtone from the band August Burns Red so that I for sure wake up haha.

ps. I think the Pixi will do great in the coming months. I'm starting to have a hunch that the next webOS device will be a full touchscreen, and this is why they're pushing the Pixi. I hope it's not the case because I "need" a physical keyboard - preferrebly in portrait. What do you guys think?!?

Read the forums, lots of us have problems with alarms not going off and alarms being erased. It's only happened to me a couple of times, but once is too many times.

Posted on wrong story, please ignore.

Aww shucks... I would've taken a better pic if I knew you were gonna post it... :)

LETS GO MOUNTAINEERS!!! Great to hear that WebOS is advertising in The DA (student newspapers nickname... fyi). Just booked my hotel for homecoming so I'll see all my fellow Pre owning 'Eers in The Pit @ the game!

They are sooo missing a screenshot of FlashCards in that. How do you advertise to students without the kickass app that will make them smarter? *grin*
