AT&T, Verizon lurking between the lines of HP's Pre 3, TouchPad pages 38

by Phil Nickinson Wed, 09 Feb 2011 5:46 pm EST

The Pre 3 was announced this morning (check out our hands-on!) and said to be coming in two flavors HSPA+ and EVDO Rev. A. That narrows it down to the four major U.S. carriers, of course -- Sprint and Verizon on the CDMA side, and T-Mobile and AT&T on GSM. Not much of a help.

Let's face it -- we'd be mighty surprised to see that T-Mobile and Palm had made up, so scratch it off the list. As for the CDMA carrier? According to the source code of the Pre 3 page, looks like we'll be talking about a launch on Verizon (and notice how AT&T appears to be confirmed there as well). And a Verzion mention is pretty interesting in its own right, seeing as how the Pre 2 will finally be on sale on Verizon tomorrow.

By the way, the Pre 3's not alone here -- the code appears on the TouchPad page as well, but not on the Veer. And there's no mention of Sprint -- yet.

But as long as we're stirring the pot, let us hope beyond hope that the Pre 3 (and/or TouchPad) doesn't get renamed to something like "Pre 3 4G" if and when it hits AT&T, which has been strutting around its newfound "4G" network and slapping the label on anything that'll stand still long enough. bye bye webOS if true... it was nice knowing you and stalking you for the last couple years, but I have to stay on Sprint so it looks like I will get some POS Android phone instead, sad day.

Agreed. I've been a very loyal WebOS user from the beginning and have been able to upgrade since June. I have been waiting for a big announcement since then and it came today. Sadly, it's not looking good for Sprint and even if it does come it may be 5-6 months out. My Pre Minus is on its last legs and won't last that long. As much as it pains me I'll have to settle for an Epic and see what next year brings...

i am also a day one pre owner that's been able to upgrade since june of last year... i'm not leaving my carrier for any of the phones announced today...and since i've already waited this long i'm going to hold out for the evo2 or whatever device HTC brings to sprint this summer... without a doubt it'll be better spec wise than what the pre3 is offering

man, don't tell me this :(

come on SPRINT!!!!!!!!

If ties with Sprint have been severed I will be getting a Epic and hoping my old Sprint Pre will get updated...

I Hope this does not just go to Verizon for CDMA, it better come to Sprint. what has Verizon done for webOS at all since the beginning?

I really don't want to have to consider paying an ETF... and pay more for service... :(

I'm in the same boat, I must stick with Sprint. And the time has come as my Pre- is acting screwy as hell.

The Tablet looks great, and if the specs hold up, I may purchase that in THE COMING MONTHS.

im gettin the iphone 4! done with pre lookin ugly fones!

This does not completely rule Sprint out... It just isn't looking too good. :(

Killed my groove! :/

I understand that verizon is bigger and a better network but with all the android phones verizon has and now the Iphone4 how does HP expect to sell any phones on verizon?

I know a few people that have the verizon pre+ and its only because it was cheap and they are not "power users". they dont have preware or any patches

This appears to be code reused from the Pre+
(at least I really hope so)

Heh again no sprint?

After Sprint's stellar Monday, they have to be chomping at the bit to get this, right?

That will truly suck if Sprint doesn't get it. I feel left out to hang on my own by both Sprint and Palm. I was excited, thanks.

Don't be crazy Sprint. Get with the Pre3 and maybe even the Veer because they are now HP and there is so much potential with the cloud strategy and multiple device interconnectedness! Don't force webOS fans to move to other carriers.

Sprint called me the other day to ask if I was satisfied with my Premier service. I think they were worried I'd jump for an iPhone on Verizon. They asked if I had any questions and I asked if they were going to be getting any new WebOS phones. At first, the woman seemed like she had no idea what I was talking about. Then she put me on hold, and then they hung up on me.

All Sprint users need to get out there and hound the heck out of Sprint to get their attention on this, by phone/chat/facebook/twitter/email or whatever. Sprint users, Assemble!!!

Right now it doesnt look good for Sprint, if this continues than Sprint is about to loose lot of customers.

*Sprint* is about to lose a lot of customers? Didn't you mean HP?

sad sad day indeed no ota and no sprint...either PC or HP hates me.

im sick of waiting. hp and sprint need to make things clear. its not like we been waiting for a few weeks for an answer of when a new webos phone is dropping and on what networks, we've been waiting for months. not only did we all wait past CES 2011, we finally arrive on this HP day and we get the pre 3 coming sometime in the summer and we dont even know for what carriers. most of us love our pres, but thats because we love techy stuff. which means we have done more than enough time sacrificing for webos and its becoming ridiculous. HEY HP if you dont want your little fan base to grow resentful of you start making things clear to us. and i say fan base as if people have a choice to like or not like webos like they do iOS. main reason is because NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT WEBOS. i show people my phone and they have no idea that this type of OS even exists, but they know about android, apple, and blackberry. stop acting like you guys are as widely known as apple instead start flooding tv commericials, billboards, the internet, and most importantly the actual buying market with webos.

"HEY HP if you dont want your little fan base to grow resentful of you start making things clear to us."

Agreed.. they need to tell us specifics! ie. what month is Pre3 coming (not any of this summer or coming months shit!) and tell us what carriers!!

FYI - HP grow some balls and market your own shit and release it on ALL CARRIERS!!

Exclusivity agreements with carriers should be illegal!!

No 4G support on CDMA carriers is a possible serious killer.

I just called Sprint, it was a long shot. It never hurts to ask.

"we'd be mighty surprised to see that T-Mobile and Palm had made up, so scratch it off the list."

Can someone explain what was the fuzz about between T-mobile and Palm?

Also, Palm was one thing, but now HP is a whole different party.

Think big? Think bold? Think Beyond?

I feel like I got a big eff ewe today, typed in bold font that has me thinking about moving beyond webOS :(

Is it time to create a topic on the Sprint forums requesting for the Pre3?

Nevermind.

In that first one though, this TOMAS_ guy has an email that he sent to the VP of Strategy. I recommend all of you send him emails... Seriously...

It looks like it was reused code from the pre plus because it is no longer there.
I really hope this is the case because I've had my Sprint Pre since before launch (Previous Sprint employee) and I have tried every other smartphone OS and those other handsets are collecting dust somewhere in my house...

You guys are crazy to stay with Sprint if they don't announce something by summer. I switched to Sprint for the Pre and two years later with my contractual obligations fulfilled, I'll move back to Verizon for the next big webOS deal.

Sprint has been a fine carrier but with their axing of their Premier perks and their new $10 premium data tax (payable wheather you have 4G service in your area or not) they've chosen to give up a large amount of their competitive advantage. I'm go with the carrier that can give me the experience I crave.

this sucks, until I know they are coming to Sprint, Im pissed

damn that sucks then. I was hoping tmobile will get a webos phone. Sprint has crappy service where i live and verizon is way to expensive. come on HP bring the pre 3 to tmobile! sprint actually did really good with the palm pre and verizon did poorly since they were focused on their droid line. it's time to change things a bit HP! learn your lesson!

This was posted earlier! Crossing my fingers!

Not sure if anyone noticed, but those lines have since been removed from the source code on the Pre3 and TochPad detail pages.
