Add ANY website to Just Type search [webOS 2.0 & 3.0]

Adding a website to a Just Type search is a great feature that was added to webOS 2.0 (and continued in 3.0), but unfortunately not every website participates in the compatible Open Search protocol that is necessary for webOS to use. Luckily, there is a nice workaround for you to actually add those non-compatible website to Just Type by creating a search plug-in on by following the steps below on your TouchPad or webOS 2.x phone

  • On the device's web browser, to go the website that you want to add a search for. For this example, I will use
  • Perform a search on the site for "TEST" (without the quotes, and in all CAPS. This is very important)
  • Copy the URL of the TEST search to the clipboard (for, that resulted in "")
  • Open up in the web browser on your device
  • Under "Search URL", paste in that TEST search URL
  • Leave Suggestions URL (Options) blank
  • Enter the title that you want for the Search name under "Search plugin title". This is what will show up in your Just Type search option
  • Scroll down to "Icon" and choose "Website Favicon (auto detect)"
  • Tap the "Create Plugin" button
  • After about 5-10 seconds, a notification should appear to "Tap to add as Search Engine" for the site you just added. From here, just follow the regular steps to add a website to your Just Type Search for webOS 2.0 or webOS 3.0
