Add Promo Codes to Just Type [webOS 2.1+] 8
This tip is only for devices running webOS 2.1 and higher
Promo Codes are a great way for developers or HP to give out free copies of apps, and who doesn't love free apps, right?! However, unless you were given a direct link to access the app with the promo code, you normally need to open up the App Catalog, search for the app, tap to purchase it, and then tap "Use Promo Code" before typing or pasting it in. One quick shortcut that you can use is to paste in http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=[add your promo code] into Just Type or the browser with your specific promo code to jump right to the app in the catalog with the Promo Code prefilled. Of course, this still requires you to remember that link and then add in your code. An app like Clipboard for webOS can simply this task by keeping of copy of the base URL, but there is an even easier option: Add Promo Code search to Just Type.
Using our previous tip on Adding any website to a Just Type Search you can actually create a Just Type search option where you only need to paste in the Promo Code to Just Type, tape "Promo Code Search" and be taken directly to that app in the catalog with the code prefilled in. Note that you may still need to enter your Profile Password and will then need to tap "Use Promo Code" instead of "Purchase".
Follow the steps at Adding any website to a Just Type Search, using:
- Search URL = http://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?promocode=TEST
- Search plugin title = Promo Code Search
Then, be sure to update your Just Type preferences for either webOS 2.x (for phones) or webOS 3.x (for TouchPad)

Sometimes I'll get my promo email and I don't have my TouchPad with me. Can I use this method to purchase (or promo) apps from a computer with my HP login? If not, how?
This is awesome, but I am far to lazy to go through those steps.
Is there a way to remove those search engine if you accidently hit the magnifying Icon?
Tap "Just Type", hit the drop down in the top left corner, then click preferences, then you can go down to the "Launch & Search", then swipe to delete.
That didn't work for me. Clearing the browser's history and cache got rid of them though.
However, I can't get the notification to add the promo code search with webOS 3.0.4. I initially get something else for some Italian site, but that's it. It works ok with webOS 2.1 though.
No dice on 3.0.4 for me either .....
It worked for me on 3.0.4 but also added 10 garbage search items into my Just Type, including those Italian ones you guys mentioned. Was able to get rid of them by clearing cookies/history. The method of going into Just Type-->Preference-->Launch & Search did not work since I do not have anything called Launch & Search.
If you don't want to create the search-plugin yourself, you can also take a plugin that's already created. Have a look in the forum:
