Adobe CEO: Flash for mobile, second half of 2010 172
Adobe President and CEO Shantanu Narayen, recently spoke to Fox Business about the launch of Adobe CS5 and Apple’s resistance to putting Flash on the iPhone OS and banning of Flash-compiled apps. That’s all good and fun, but what we care about is this quote:
We have a number of excited partners who are working aggressively with us to bring Flash to their devices, whether they be smartphones as well as handsets, and so companies like Google or RIM or Palm are going to be releasing versions of Flash on smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year.
The first release date Adobe gave us: October 2009. Sigh.
This does line up with what PreCentral Forum member deesugar heard from Adobe employee Antonio Flores: "As Mark indicated, we’re holding Palm to strict ship criteria but they are close. We expect that a public beta should occur in a similar timeframe to that of Android – May/June. At this time, we’re not doing a wider pre-release program."

Thanks to coasterer for the tip! Also: the irony of having to post a Flash-only video on this story is not lost on us.

Atleast give flash lite for pre...
I think I am going to jump ship and get the HTC Evo 4G when it drops in June, since I am eligible for a Sprint device upgrade soon. I saw a launch video where the CEO of HTC said that this new God-phone would have flash available in the browser at launch!
Well, technically, the Pre can in theory have Flash in the browser before the launch of the 4G since it might come out in May. And if you think the 4G is running some magic unavailable version of Flash that no phone is going to have, think again. Its probably going to be just as good as the Beta will be for all other phones once released, since no phone will have a final version of full mobile flash until October this year, not even the 4G.
never said anything about some magical unavailable Flash... even if it is beta, that's better than none at all!
Yea, I'm finding it hard to live without being able to punch the money for my chance a million bucks when browsing on my Pre too...
M.
thats because the phone is coming out in the summer, when flash would be available. Won't lie, this phone does look appealing to me as well. In the same boat with sprint......but i LOVE my palm :-( gonna be a tough choice.
I believe all SenseUI phones like the HTC EVO have Flash Lite pre-installed. This is not to be confused with the real Flash 10.1 that is coming out to webOS and Android later this year.
Agreed Ecoteric. I'll probably right behind you getting an EVO a month later and for hardware and app reasons even more then Flash. But i was hoping for flash on a pre was to tide me over til then so this is too bad. EVO or Iphone HD 4 me but my pre has been freezing and not registering calls and texts and the app situation doesn't help.
Maybe they could put subliminal messages into their software to help encourage musslims to fight back against the Taliban, and fix their own bullshit that their religion has caused. Or, even better help encourage islamic terrorists to stop killing people to make it to their heaven. Would be nice.
i honestly dont understand why everyone seems to like to rush a company that gives it software for free
Because Adobe have been whining about Apple not letting them into the iPhone since 2007. They keep talking it up, so people want to know:
"Where's the product?! Why weren't you there at the Android launch? Why weren't you there at the Palm Pre launch?"
By the way, Flash Pro costs between $699 and $1899, depending on the package. Adobe is certainly not a charity.
i can't wait! im seriously looking forward to flash on ... well... ANY mobile really. then we'll hear the wailing about poor battery life and crashes and complaints about high bandwidth use of advertising. it'll be glorious! i can't wait to see the first flash blocker app either...
Wow... didn't see this coming :roll eyes:
I've been saying this for a few months now, it is Adobe, they never make deadlines and keep pushing stuff back.
I expect to see Flash in November =)
November of which year? :) {J}
LOL!!! When I was typing that I was thinking about saying "November 2012"
Exactly what I thought..... interesting quote ..... does not necessarily mean one of those companies is making a tablet .... but I am hoping palm will eventually .... Palm needs to nail the c40 or whatever their next gen smarter phone is ....
I agree, but I say longer still, ie 2011-2012. Yawn...believe it when I see it.
Like Grand Turismo 5 LOL ya uhuh.
I think the saying goes...Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee
Post of the year had me rolling out of my computer chair.
That was too funny!!!!
This never seems to get old :-) LOL
OMG that was soooo funny. I'm about to go and watch it on Youtube now. LOL
Bush's genius: While people were busy laughing about him, he had plenty of time spreading his war lies and breaking the constitution. Worst American president in recent memory.
Wow, you know what. I don't care anymore. It'll be here when it will be here. I can't trust these projected release dates anymore. I am more interested in the last end of that quote, the one of the tablets. I hope the one making one is Palm.
My sentiments exactly. Who really wants flash advertisements in their Pre browser anyway? And what are the odds Adobe's CEO knows something about what Palm has in the pipeline?
At some point, was there not a comment made that WebOS would be the first smartphone platform to get Flash? At this rate, it looks like Android might beat WebOS to the punch. And if not, they might be released at the same time or WebOS might only get it days before Android.
This was a major selling point when I bought my Pre. I think I might be losing faith. That HTC EVO 4G is looking awfully nice right now. If I don't hear something spectacular from Palm by the time it's released, I will definitely be giving up on the Pre.
Thanks for making my point.
yep. i agree 100%..
I'm totally thinking the same thing, the EVO looks amazing, but I've never used android for any extended period and I keep hearing how much more functional WebOS is over the former. Come on Palm, make us proud and come out with something amazing soon!
Exactly what I was saying in another post.
I don't think that Palm ever announced it as a pending feature. But, Adobe may have said Palm and android and BB were part of the development and that Pre would be capable of running it. Early on, Pre was one of the few phones spec'ed high enough to handle it. That crowd has gotten bigger as time has passed.
But, I know we have members that will swear Ruby promised it and it was printed on the box, just like iTunes compatibility.
This is where is say I'd rather have a fully baked Flash released later and have everybody bitching about the late release date then to have a half baked Flash and everybody bitching that it doesn't work right.
Either way we will still have people blaming Palm and threatening to go to another phone that also does not have Flash.
... Even the fully baked version will get screwed up too ....
I don't doubt it....either way I'm cool with whatever happens.
Everyone always makes this argument when they are waiting for something. "I'd rather they get webOS perfect with all of the features at the end of Q2 2009 than release something buggy and incomplete in Q1." Meaningless.
I'd say all those bitching and threatening to buy another phone is on the same level.
amen to that! People are gonna complain one way or another. Listen flash is nice. It's not theend of the world if we don't have it. Lets think about this we all have survived how long with smartphones and no flash? Still don't see how Adobe dragging their feet (AS USUALL) is Palms fault. Adobe tells Palm that the Pre will get flash.. Soon.. Palm makes that announcement and now Adobe wants to do what they are best at.. Procrastanate.. And now everyone blames Palm? If I was Jon I'd be pissed!!
Adobe are slow movers, a bunch of slackers that NEVER get anything out on time. If I really need flash that bad on a web page I'll tether my netbook up and look at the page. Because of how slow Adobe moves I all around stopped using their photoshop and graphics programs and went back to Corel photo paint and Corel draw.. Now this is reminding me why.
for me i'm going to another phone but flash is NOT a big reason why. apps, hardware, and music player are big reasons for me. Flash is just a small bonus and actually may have slowed the transition. But i'm not threatening to leave or trying to hold Palm hostage. The Pre and webos at this time just isn't the platform for me.
don't care. don't think they can make it an enjoyable experience. don't want it.
@johntomfoolery
aghh you know what forget about it I have lost faith in adobe forget about flash I can't wait till html5 catch on strong
I'll second this
Bee Eye In Gee Oh!!! On HTML5.
If my dev team delivered like Adobe, we'd all have been replaced by offshore contractors long ago.
I wonder, after seeing Flash demoed on a Pre, how much hard won market share Palm stands to loose because Adobe's Board doesn't have the balls to fire the CEO and all the hack project managers, business analysts and developers involved in what amounts to lying to both consumers and there Partners.
This is utterly ridiculous. So c'mon Web Community and Standards board get HTML5 moving.
The videos on youtube of pre with flash look really decent, I'm really excited tbh.
And there was me siding with Adobe in the HTML5 v. Flash debacle. Obviously Apple saw through Adobe in a flash (sorry!)
Frankly, it's over for Flash and Adobe has only itself to blame.
Yeah, I was thinking that if Adobe wants to mount a serious battle against HTML5 they shouldn't be worrying about device makers meeting shipment minimums before releasing Flash.
Get Flash on the devices pronto to stem the tide.
Anyone else have a feeling Adobe is hiring monkeys to do their programming, literally?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5nwnc-YQ-Q&feature=youtube_gdata
wtf? Didn't work on first post...
I can't say that I blame Palm for Adobe breaking their word... Palm said 1.4.0 update would be released in February and were accurate to the month. Adobe said Flash would come to the Pre and haven't even been accurate to the year. I'm sure Palm is even more frustrated than their customer's are, especially since a huge selling point for it's launch on June 6th 2009 was Flash availability. This is unacceptable.
.
Adobe is releasing Flash on multiple platforms that they have never done before. The smart-phone market is growing fast and is going to be very important to Adobes Flash success. Flash 10.1 should be better across every platform thanks to smart-phones. They have slower processors and less memory. That means Flash is going to have to be much lighter. It appears they are taking the time to do it right. Go Adobe. As far as release dates go, it is difficult to anticipate technology release dates. The industry changes so fast that you must make changes on the fly.
" and so companies like Google or RIM or Palm are going to be releasing versions of Flash on smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year."
I am not sure how people assume Android will have it first, and by the time the EVO is out, that they are going to blame Palm and make their millionth threat to buy another phone once their's is a year old already. For those who don't get my point, the above quote mentions Google....meaning Android....meaning even the EVO.
Done!!!! Adobe you can go stuff it... We were looking foward to the Beta version as promised. Who cares if it was buggy!! By the time we get it HTLM5 will be standard. Adobe you really blew it, this could have helped push some Palm products. I really thought that Palm was working hard with Adobe and it was going to be an exclusive for some time. Now Palm will be no different than RIM or Google. THANKS ADOBE FOR NOTHING!!!
Did anyone catch the CEO saying "will be able to see what the users are doing with content"? WTF?
why are you people so willing to give up the greatest phone out there??? Shit have some faith, there is no phone out there that will get me to switch I love my pre been with it since release and it's been good to me ever since then... So all you babies out there go ahead and switch now cause you oviously just using adobe as a scape goat to get rid of your phone.
I think everyone is mad about the delays (like me). I have not given up on my Pre!!! I would have been great to see Flash earlier to help push some sales. I mean really how many demos have we seen? There could have been something released.
Yep.. Hate to admit it, but the EVO looks better every day.
Similar to the poster above, I really dig WebOS, the neat Pre keyboard, and the really awesome 'coding community' (Homebrew & patches). Unfortunately, "things" are just not happening quick enough for my taste. Android, however, seems to be picking up steam every day - and they seem to have an even bigger (fan & coding) base than Palm and WebOS. Many (pay) apps I really need/want are just not available for WebOS...
Speaking of apps and patches, I find it really sad (to say the least) that the "Pre Homebrew scene" has to make up for the shortcomings of Palm and their WebOS development. I know, many folk here enjoy tweaking their Pre... but I don't feel comfy having to add 50 patches to make the phone half-way useful, meaning, adding to WebOS what it should have out of the box...
Hope that Palm can make some "surprise move" - and Flash certainly would be one - that will convince me to stick with my Pre. Otherwise, it'll be EVO 4G for me in Summer... even though 4G speeds don't even exist yet (..it's more like 3GG), but I don't care as long as I can stay with Sprint.
Feels like Android is making progress much faster than any other platform, not even speaking of the widespread use of the platform yet [sigh..| - and that is important to me: more users, more apps, quicker progress. It's as simple as that.
And, I'd really love a bigger, crisper screen/display...
C'mon, Palm. Do something that convinces me to keep my Pre!
Was hoping that FLASH would be on the PRE before summer 2010, then I could wait to upgrade if the HTC EVO was as big a hit as it looks to be. Now I'm def getting the EVO and using the PRE as a backup. Really disappointed in Palm and Adobe at this point.
All I see is a bunch of whiny babys.. wahhh no flash.. wahhh I'm going to EVO. Why post that crap? Do you REALLY think people on a PRE website care if you jump ship for something else? I know I dont care and I'm honestly sick of reading about it.
I'll hold the door open for them. The Hero was a Palm beater, as we heard before their launch, but not afterwards. The Pre got the Gold in March Madness and no one has pronounced Android as better outside of VZ.
The gold on that JOKE of a poll? LMAO! You sure crack me up, PrePup.
don't you get it ....loyal palm users are leavin ..this is bad news buddy
They can keave. I stood by the door myself for four months planning to jump myself. I will stay until something CLEARLY better comes along. Palm shot themselves in the belly, I can't fix that. But I'm not going to ditch a good phone for the HTC-flavor-of-the week. When a suitable android or Nokia comes along, I'll make my move. WebOS is excellent, I'll enjoy it, then move on at a good time.
what a shocker...they spend too much time worrying about apple hating them and they end up proving apple right. look at this pathetic flash initiative for mobile. It was suppose to be out by october 2009, then they said q1 2010, now q2 2010. I am guessing it will REALLY be released end of q2010 and it will suck.
No wonder apple calls them out for being lazy.
I think it's just a coincidence that everyones upgrade is right around the time of the evo release date, and by us not hearing any news FROM PALM (not sprint sources or any other company) about what this next device will look or function like, makes it easier for everyone to jump ship and that's completely understandable..so it's like we are in the dark. I'm sticking with WebOs. To the end. It's thursday...and I'm wondering what kinda offers are being discussed about palm,WebOs,patents,htc...fingers crossed for a serious 4inch htc device..lol even if it looks like a giant pixie...im sold
Palm can't say boo until the surplus of devices clears. They might be testing a C40 now that blows away Evo, but can't say anything about it because it will kill Pre/Pixi sales.
like i said above, you peple should just leave now, we don't need your negative attitudes around here. Let us know how your seamless multi-tasking will work on your driod os ;)
+1 billybennett
I cant imagine dumping WebOS for a device because it has flash ... OK the EVO specs are insane, but without the best OS then who cares. Sure, I want flash, but will take it when its ready.
Amen.
It'be like having a nice shiny Ferrari 599GTB and as soon as you start reving a POS Chevy fourbanger starts clanking
....that's just ALL kinds of wrong.
I don't even care anymore. I got this phone for the flash. It has been about a year now short a few months and still no flash. I know it's adobe to blam but I would think that palm being in the state it's in they would have a bone fire under adobe's a@@.
or at least come out with a stament of who is holding this all up. F you adobe you lazy f$%0#s. I hate you I hate you I hate you.
I hope who ever takes over palm if that happens drops adobe and hops on to HTML5 just so adobe has no one. HA!!
Why should they make an official comment about Adobe holding up Flash? It is clear as day it is Adobe's fault, it is their product! It just baffles me people are so.....for lack of a better word right now, dumb, that they in any way think Palm can have any kind of influence on Adobe, much less control. Yet there are hundreds if not thousands on this website who do.
Now that felt good didn't it?
It sucks, you nor I can change it, time to GOI.
Where's Holden Caulfield when we need him?
You'd think that because of the whole ipad effect and the threat Apple is making to Flash's business, the one best thing for Adobe to do would be to release Flash on as many mobile devices as they can as fast as they can. Generate positive media press that in essence underscore's Apple's deficiencies. I'd have done it for Palm, Android and Blackberry all right around the ipad launch.
As was eloquently put, see kineard's statement above.
Sometimes reality bites, but it's still reality.
Pawns...
who would buy a phone for 'flash'? wake up, major sites are abandoning flash (because its becoming more and more clear, the model sucks).
we have more html5 support in our phones RIGHT now, and surprise... html5 is still an infant compared to flash.
i knew this would happen, adobe will dig their own grave and crawl inside it and yell for help.
dont fall for that ish
I don't even care anymore. I got this phone for the flash. It has been about a year now short a few months and still no flash. I know it's adobe to blam but I would think that palm being in the state it's in they would have a bone fire under adobe's a@@.

Double post my lord.
I dont care about flash, I just want a device that wont give me eye strain to read my mail and I don't have to apply 23 patches to (no joke) to make it functional after 5 updates. FIVE!!!!
Palm need a better machine out post haste or there wont be anyone left to keep, they will all have already jumped. I moved to Android this week, and I cant say it's the same experience as webOS, but the hardware makes up for it.
75 patches and counting...
I relish at the chance to improve my phone and get a little happy inside every time that I do.
You seem to need a diff kind of phone, hold on...
...I think my sister's Razr(original) is still hanging around somewhere.
I'm almost done with Adobe does anyone no how to port "sky fire "over to web os? that would help...
Who in there right mind would buy a phone for a "suspected" feature that might come to your device? You are setting yourself up for failure if you ride your whole webOS experience on a feature that was so obviously not fully baked yet.
There's something charming about whining... no?

This is why come this summer, I AM GOING TO THE SPRINT EVO 4G FTW!
Over 4G comments, go tell someone here!:
http://www.androidcentral.com/
No you aren't. Evo/wimax is only available in the US.
Along with our new insider saying talking about other devices i have a little paragraph for you. I know he cant say but i can! hahaha
There are a ton of devices coming Sprint's way. The Evo kind of opens the flood gates so to speak. By the end of the year there will be a toal of 10 WiMAX devices! isn't taht crazy! Don't be fooled though, the Supersonic will be the flagship of Sprint AND HTC for atleast another 6-8 months.
Then you have the Plam c40 another 4G keyboarded device. This is the one which is supposedly destined to turn the company around. I'm an android guy but for webos this should do something
There is also a device from moto. I have noo idea what this one is. It just kind of came out of the wood work. I assume it will be something like the moto shadow which is basically the droid 2 or Nexus 2 depending on what u see it as. Google that one up its pretty sick.
Then next year we have the ULTA device soming to sprint. Yepp this will be the HTC Scorpion. This bad boy will be the first Mobile Device with a 1.5 ghz processor. I dont know if thats necessary but the idea behind it will be to have a laptop, mp3, tv, movie theater, camera, video recorder and much more all in your pocket. HTC is working on a sick new type of screen for it too. It will more than likely me keyboarded. This is what will be, for what is now dubbed as the "evo 2". Its gonna be a beast.
Ohh and Drex the tourny went well. We crushed a few good teams and came in second overall!
Thanks for your support
Jackson
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/54768-official-sprint-htc-evo-4g-inf...
An insider named Jackson (user name Supersonical) with connections to a Sprint employee has shared with Androidforums.com that the upcoming Palm C40 has a larger screen than the Pre, maintains a real keyboard, and is also boasting a 1 Ghz processor.
He also goes on to add that it will be a 4G device allowing it to tap into the speedy 4G Sprint network and will likely come out late Summer/early Fall. The design is
I think palm should come out and say something. So all the "dumb" people out there can see it's not palm holding this up.
And yeah flash on a phone would be sick. HULU anyone. And yes I saw the clip of it not working and I still say he did not let it load.
yeah that felt really good. Screw you adobe.
Well if they're dumb people, maybe they shouldn't be using smartphones! =D
maybe that's why they do use smartphones ;) to have something... smart in their lives
Why, because you want to move to another website and complain about lack of Flash there?
It still reads, "...Flash 10.1 Beta is coming to Palm webOS in the first half of 2010," so until they change that I'm still seeing a June release!
Those who want to jump ship and grab the Evo...do it.
Those who don't want Flash...dont download it.
We all have choices so I don't understand why people continue to go on rants about the same thing over and over again!
Palm will succeed...
Brought to you by the Church of the Official Word.
sry db post don't know how
um sry you people better wake up. More and more people are seriously jumping ship when the evo comes out. The evo nation is startin to band together and build so that means there are less and less people everyday for the webos community and I don't think palm or developers are goin to back a os that has few people or that have people leaving. So you better try to keep as many people as you can. Becuz noone knows or cares about webos besides the small community it has.... Open your eyes and do what you can to save webos. Stop tryin to ruin it...
Adobe! ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHH!!! You make me feel like Homer Simpson wanting to strangle Bart!!!
JUST GIVE US SOMETHING ALREADY!! JEEEEZ....

[Triple post] Evo nation belongs at www.androidcentral.com
The reality is we're all just guessing the future here, the EVO too will be outdated with people "threatening"[giggle] to leave. Palm is not sitting on their bums hoping it all just works out.
My call is that webOS will be married to new hardware and as long as new phones are released people will 'jump' from carrier to carrier and phone to phone.
Find what works for you, I think that more and more webOS will be that very thing over time in relation to the other OSs.

hey willl....DELETE your Quadruplicate posts or at least edit them to be blank
evo nation is like that some times, challenged.
I don't know about you but I just posted a scathing message on Adobe's twitter feed @adobe #flash
So, what did you accomplish?
I lit a sparkler under their ass but it's better than not saying anything. Here we are juts st COMAINING to OURSELVES. It's important to point our energy to the source of frustration

I think I'm addicted, keep going man, I'm having a great laugh...
I hope Palm gets some money out of Adobe and DataViz for not launching their products when the phone launched. If I am not mistaken they were both launch partners that never delivered. We shouldn't be condemning Palm !!!
All you need is loooooove.
Typical Adobe. They've stated they hate Linux, yet release Flash 64-bit for it, not Windows. You want to know why on your current 64-bit PC's you can't run a 64-bit browser (which by the way is far more efficient and faster at loading pages, etc)...it's because of Adobe. They refuse to release Flash 64-bit. It's always been them. I love how they are trying to pin this on Palm in some way by that leaked memo from an Adobe rep, don't be surprised if it gets pushed off into never-never land. I've given up all hope we're getting Flash, and everyone else probably should too. People need to start writing Adobe in OUTRAGE and telling them to pay more attention, just because it's not a $1000 overpriced revenue-generating product doesn't mean they should string people along and never make it. It's THEIR FAULT, BLAME THEM, BE ANNOYED.
Rage, ruckus and venting, wooo!!
So I'm guessing second half means December 31'st. Actually, I really believe Palm and adobe are working together to release flash at the same time as the C40 just to make the launch that more appealing. Btw more rumors here http://palmnewsdaily.com/2010/04/14/rumor-a-few-more-details-about-the-p...
if this is the pre 2 I like it =D
Probably not a bad idea, software releases around the new phone date, creates more hype about the phone.
I can't imagine a news article for many companies that would focus on software alone. Identity is important for the consumer.
C40 - I have flash, iPhone doesn't.
sry guys. I guess posting from ur phone does multiple posts. Didn't mean for that!!
No problem. Guess it's time for you to hang out at androidnation.com since nobody cares about webos. We'll miss you, we understand. Bye Will.
sry guys. I guess posting from ur phone does multiple posts. Didn't mean for that!!
Prediction: The people complaining about the Pre and saying they will get the Evo when it comes out will be complaining about the Evo and saying they will get the new X phone when it comes out 9 months later.
Boring.
yeah, cuz the rage worked real well for the apple comunity lol oh and palmOs cmmunity.... I thought it would be cool to have flash if I wanted it, but who cares anymore.
hmmm I wonder if we could port a flash lite over using the pdk?
just to get the tech sites going
no I guarantee you people will not be complainin about the evo becuz it's not going to have as many problems as the pre did. So they won't have to wait for patches or updates to be released for simple normal things
Amen, brother Will!
You seem very sure of that, despite not ever using the phone.
you bought a pre ... so why should we take your word on the quality of an unreleased phone?
Lame. Adobe really needs to get their stuff together and release something already. But wait they did release something. CS5 is the latest and greatest bloatware from Adobe. No wonder Apple doesn't like them. Adobe is shooting themselves in the foot. 2nd half of 2010 will give Apple more time to get HTML5 off the ground. Adobe move your ass and release it NOW unless of course you want to see flash die :)
disappointing news...but not surprised.
whoops wat I meant to say "wont have as many problems as the pre". Lemme correct myself before sum smart A.s.s comes on here and makes a fool out of himself
I would love to have Flash but I am willing to wait for it. I'm not sure I'm willing to wait past summer for quality productivity and business related apps to make it to webOS. Not having the Documents to Go or Splash suite which I had on my Treo has seriously cost me productivity and hard cash out of my pocket over the last 10 months (because I no longer can update business records which I used on those apps). And I'm not comfortable enough to patch the phone or use Classic. I like my Pre, I'm fine with Sprint and I love webOS, but the phone is not meeting my needs. However, I'm willing to give the phone and Palm a few more months.
patching is so easy nothing to be scared about...
whoops wat I meant to say "wont have as many problems as the pre". Lemme correct myself before sum smart A.s.s comes on here and makes a fool out of himself
Spot the fool.
ugh. You guys talking about the Evo need to realize one very important shortcoming. Any HTC device running Sense on top of Android or WM has historically taken FOREVER to get OS updates. When a new build of an OS comes out, HTC normally needs to update Sense to reflect whatever changes were made to the OS. Ask any Sprint Hero user.... The Droid and Nexus one don't have to deal with this since Sense is not laid on top of Android on those devices. Also, I've seen many people say you can disable Sense. This is not true... You'd need a custom ROM, there's no option in any Sense overlaid devices' settings that let you just turn sense off. You think moving to the Evo is going to magically make life better? Go ahead and watch HTC drag THEIR Asses when Android updates come out... The Sprint Hero is still running Android 1.5 and updates have been promised for months and months and month. Why? Ask HTC.... Hardware-wise the Evo kicks ass, but don't be surprised when people start bitching and nothing happens. If you want Android updates when google actually releases them, you'd be better of "threatening" that your leaving your Pre for an N1.
You guys praise Palm for all the updates it has made to the Pre/Pixi in the past months, but if I recall, most of these "updates" have been nothing more than FIXES than new features. The only NEW feature that stands out is the video recorder. Other than that, it's been just "updates" to fix bugs and issues. And even with 1.4.1.1, we still have to PATCH the phone with over 50+, just to make it work as IT SHOULD.
Maybe Android isn't updated as frequently because it works just fine as it should.
This is like saying, Ford is an outstanding buy, because they are very diligent in fixing my Ford Tempo every 10 days for malfunctions. Fact of the matter is that WebOS needs to be patched the heck out of it, in order to make it work as it should.

shhh shhhh shhh
Don't tell them about Androids fractured versioning and intrasystem compatibilities. They haven't spent two weeks trying to make an android work out. This will be fun to watch.
I am so sick of the word EVO. It doesn't even look like english to me anymore, kinda like the word Tebow. Okay, we get it. Some people really, really like the phone, despite never seeing it, holding it, etc. For all we know, it could go horribly wrong.
Even if it doesn't, this is not Android Central. Thus, stuff about the EVO should not be here. If you want to sing its Google-flavored praises, feel free. But do it there.
As for flash, I can do without it. It would be nice, and maybe Adobe will get it out. We can dream, anyway.
No matter what, I look forward to the next webos device. After all, I bought two touchstones. I wanna keep on using them. :D
I agree. The threats of "Palm better _______ or else I'm getting an EVO" are getting a bit annoying. It looks like a great device, fine, but no smartphone has ever proved to be perfect.. there's always issues with something.
And in the end, they're just phones. The world's not going to end due to our inability to watch Hulu while sitting on the bus. (Although, admittedly, it'd be pretty funny if it did :P)
I read through this thread and didn't see anyone say "Palm better"
I am sick of it I like RKguy idea I am doing the same going to yell at the soruce of all this hate. SCREW YOU ADOBE YOU F ING SNAKES.
They can keep flash as far as I'm concerned. I don't even want their software on my phone at this point.
well I got really bad newz now there is app out there for I phone cloudbrowser it is a browser that suports flash for the iphone. Well I guess we all got tricked in to thinking the pre will be the first. :(. The app will be pulled but you no your iphone totaing freinds will rub this in our face. I hate adobe I hate adobe I hate adobe.
P.S. If you are posting from your pre it will db post if you let browser reload. Not sure how to get around it.
The grass will always be greener, try to grateful and happy with what you have. I'm content with my Pre and intend to hold onto it for the duration of my contract.
waaaa.....waaaaa.......waaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
HTC EVO 4G, I take one step closer to you.
I've already started a brisk pace. EVO FTW!
Flash to me was never a selling or buying point for my pr
They are really pissing me off. Didn't they say first half of the year. They better put out the beta soon so we can start playing with it.
