Amazon Cloud Player app bound for HP TouchPad? 8

by Derek Kessler Fri, 22 Jul 2011 1:10 pm EDT

The folks over at webOSroundup noticed something interesting: though Amazon’s Cloud Player music streamer works just fine over the HP TouchPad’s Flash-enabled browser, if you check off a track and tap the Download button, instead of just trying to download the MP3 file to your devices, it opens an “app not available” page in HP’s app listings. Specifically, this one:

https://developer.palm.com/appredirect/?packageid=com.amazon.music.webos...

That, folks, is a placeholder URL for a very descriptively named app: an Amazon Music downloader. That doesn’t sound specifically like a Cloud Player app, but perhaps just a conduit for music to be pulled from your Amazon cloud storage onto your TouchPad? Either way, the fact that it has a placeholder tells us that it’s probably not that far off. And not that surprising, considering HP SVP and webOS father Jon Rubinstein is on Amazon's board.

Hopefully this is the first step for "Music Synergy" within webOS. I'd really love to see the Music app be more like Messaging in that it would have access to all of my media. Spotify or Rdio integration to it would make it such a perfect and seamless experience, especially if it made the leap over to webOS on phones.

It doesn't really work "just fine" in the browser. Scrolling is impossible for long lists at the bottom (it just moves the page.)

This sounds more like a downloader for MP3 app purchases. This would just get us back to 1.4.5 and 2.x functionality. Streaming would be nice. Also file transfer to and from would be great.

You are describing the web browser problem that is, in my opinion, the #1 thing that needs an upgrade or a 3rd party solution ASAP.

@southbaypalm - I completely agree. That is the bug that limits the usefulness of the touchpad. In my work, there are 2 flex interfaces that I use daily to look at reports. If the report includes a scroll bar its useless.

If there's a scrollbar I believe you can hold on the scrollbar a few seconds to get it activated properly.

Actually this was posted a couple of days ago by a PC member in one of your forums. Give them the credit instead of webos roundup.

There is an Amazon MP3 downloader for Windows as well just to download the tracks without their being an Amazon player app on the computer, so I'm not sure this implies an App for the touchpad.

I noticed this today, my second day with the Touchpad. I think it should be called "Pilot".

I do not think that Rubenstein is the 'father' of webos, rather the 'godfather'. He came in to shepherd it to birth. Not shepherd, uh, midwife it. He is the midwife of webos.

Let us crown him the Midwife!
