Angry Birds on webOS coming in 'a few more days;' we have video 56
Now that 1.4.5 is available for Sprint devices (Verizon and AT&T users, look away, this will be too bittersweet), we're already loving the rush of PDK games from smaller vendors - including that GameBoy Emulator in the Beta feed. One of the most-anticipated is Angry Birds and we have good news on that front. Rovio let @sp3nca know that it's due in 'a few more days.' Even better, they've sent us a quick video of the device running on a Palm Pre Plus and as you can see after the break, it's running quite nicely.
We trust it will run equally well on a regular Palm Pre - the only device that could conceivably run it at the moment - and we trust that the Plussed Pres will get 1.4.5 and the ability to install games like this right soon.
What other higher-end games are you hoping to see on webOS?

Sweet! I am loving the new pdk apps! I hope developers can do more with porting regular iphone apps over to Web OS soon! I am dying for popcap games and bejeweled 2 on my Web OS phone!
nice! what's the pre plugged into?
Looks like it is taking audio out from the headphone jack and into their camcorder..
speakers?
...sorry double post
...need ...birds ...now
- I wonder how many levels will be included in this first release? I also hope it will not require 1.4.5!
There's zero chance of it not requiring 1.4.5
Being a PDK app not released months ago, it WILL require 1.4.5
Not Palm's fault. Blame your carrier as they're holding up 1.4.5 for unknown reasons.
oh, I know it's the carrier's fault, however I'm still confused as to why Palm Pre's need 1.4.5 to play games like this? I posted this question the other day and was given the answer that the Pre phones aren't getting any major upgrades with 1.4.5. Th Pre already can play 3d (PDK) games (need for speed) and that it's the pixi which is getting pdk support.
what gives? I am infuriated that Verizon takes so long to update the Pre. It's getting tiring.
1.4.5 properly sandboxes the games so that they don't run all willy-nilly on the phone. Theoretically, they could write/delete/over-right any file on the Pre. Because of the security risk only certain pre-approved vendors were allowed to bring their apps on board.
I offer to BETA test :}
Can't wait!
Most of the guys in the office are hooked on this game now... at least those with iPhone's that have been also willing to pause long enough in their own playing to allow someone else to try :}
Can't come soon enough... at least for 1.4.5 users...
SWEEET!
yeah would make sense. cleaner video sound. thanks!
Ok now we have to ask ourselves why doesn't AT&T or Verizon have this WebOs update yet. Yikes!
Because VZW likes their bloated Droid line and AT&T likes the iLine.
So actually I heard from a higher up in AT&T that even though iPhone is still their highest selling device, AT&T's Android devices are rapidly gaining on the top smartphone spot on the ampersand's (my nickname for them) network.
Can't wait for Angry Birds! The new PDK games are very cool. Galcon is my favorite so far (multiplayer is great).
looks great.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)
I just hope they don't charge more for this app then they do for the iphone version. One thing i am noticing is that some apps on the pre cost more than they do on the iphone. Is this because of the current limited number of apps?
This is generally because webOS has fewer users than the iPhone, so sales will presumably be lower, and they need more money per sale to pay for the cost of writing the app.
I would say this is also a product partially (not saying you are wrong), but some apps have been out on iOS for a while and they are all still relatively new to WebOS. So where some of the iOS apps have gone thru price drops due to age this hasn't happened on WebOS.
I do agree this is just a combining factor of the lack of user base/competition. For apps that are already written I would chalk it up to more of the lack of competition and lack of age of the WebOS market vs. off setting development costs (as the majority of the development already exists in the iOS version).
Just putting that out there because I have seen some folks compare WebOS prices to current iOS prices of games that may have just launched on WebOS but have been on iOS for months and have gone thru a price drop in the App Cat before the app ever his the WebOS App Cat.
It is also as you mentioned in part a matter of Supply and Demand. For every 1 app on iPhone there are 10 similar products with many being free just not as robust.
Where as on WebOS for every 1 app there might be a 2nd similar but generally not.
Hopefully the price will be under $3 and ideally the same as iPhone at $1.
Will this work on Pixi Plus??????
Sounds like it will once you get the 1.4.5 update.
Anyone know if this will be paid or free?
Definitely Paid.
Our hope is that it will be the same price as iPhone $.99 as they have already made millions on it.
In previous talks Rovio has mentioned the possibility of a $.99 release price, but I am guessing they will most likely release it at $1.99.
I say we boycott and don't buy if it's not the same price as the iPhone version!
I say that is pretty ignorant and will result in a lack of developers for what is currently a low user base platform. It also shows a complete lack of knowledge on how economics and development for platforms works.
They didn't write this App for Webos it's just port like all the other PDK games with a few tweaking. It's not like they started from scratch.
I want pdk apps NOT all games
I agree - we need more PDA and Business Apps using the PDK.
As long as it's not $5 I will buy it....
Now uberkernel just needs to be updated so I can not run into the damn too many cards error this will likely bring.
Why would uberkernel need to be updated? It already implements a method to reduce TMC errors by adjusting the formula to include free swap space in addition to free RAM when determining if another card can be open.
And if that's not enough, you can turn on compcache to add a considerably faster, virtual, and compressed swap file within memory.
I would love to see Warfare, Inc. on WebOS. I see that they have a iPhone version.
Yes me too...Warfare, Inc. rocked on my Palm TX.
I'm also hopeful that other developers begin seeing the light.
Hmm - webOS, PDK, and my old wares now available on another platform with little work.
As a developer...that's all we want...easy transport to other system (like Java was supposed to be, but the PDK actually works). Sorli...
If only we had something with a bigger screen to play it on.
Also, we need a version for Android.
Uhmmm YOU may need a version for Android. I think in general the majority of *WE* here at PreCentral have absolutely no *NEED* for AngryBirds on Android.
Just saying is all.
which is exactly why Palm needs to release their next phone with a bigger screen! Hopefully in the next month or so. The Pre is racking up in "old" tech and unfortunately it's causing them to lose major marketshare. They can't keep this up for much longer without a new hw release.
It's coming to Android too:

This = AWESOME!!
The Pre is the #2 gaming phone out there...sadly less people know because Palm has NOT ONCE shown 3D games in action on the Pre! :\
I'm still converting people 1 Pre at a time (where's my cut Palm? ;) ) who say "What phone is that? The Pre can play those games?" [SOLD]
I thought it was funny when I was at Target last. They have a huge display behind the iPods, with a row of screenshots for games. What games?
HAWX, Wacky Worlds Golf, Need for Speed Undercover, and maybe Glyder 2, I think?
Needless to say, it made me feel good to note that my phone supported all the same games, but in a cooler package.

Palm needs to open up the app store so i can buy games for my non active Pre.I like playing games on my pre they run great once you overclock.Im a EVO user now but i still like to use the Pre for Gameloft games.I really dont want to buy a Itouch so please open up the market like Itunes so anyone can buy games and apps. Im willing to buy apps but with no way of doing it im forced to download them from the net were nobody makes any money for there hard work.
I believe there are a few people that have app cat access on inactive devices..... have you checked the forums?
I agree. It would be great (and smart) for the app store to be available for non active devices.
However why are you "forced" to download pirated software? You don't have to steal you know...
Now that's just cool, so will be around the same price as the iOS version?
Niiiiice! Buying this ASAP.
I hope Freeverse devotes a little time to a Warpgate port. That would be very nice.
Ok does the music sound like Tom Waits - Cemetery Polka?
ok.. someone please tell me pocket god is coming???!? and mean it.. dont just say it.. i want some meaning behind it!
its like Boom Blox for Wii
Any chance that this will be released for Pixi?
Looks like it'll be here soon. They're anticipating submitting it to Palm today or tomorrow...
