App Catalog Available Once More For Importers 12
Earlier this month we reported that those who had imported the SIM-lock free German Pre for use on a non-O2 network were unable to access the App Catalog after updating to webOS 1.3.1. We hypothesized that Palm wouldn't provide a remedy to the issue other than a rather convoluted work-around involving multiple Palm profiles and SIM cards, but it appears that Palm has been addressing the issue on their side, as a number of importers have been reporting that they once again have access to the Catalog.
The issue has to do with the way the GSM Pre is activated, and the way in which applications are certified for certain countries. If you were to activate your imported Pre with a SIM card from a Swedish network for example, you wouldn't be unable to access the App Catalog.
Having access to the Catalog is important for all webOS users, and hopefully bringing paid applications to markets outside of the US is a top priority for Palm in 2010 as they expand the number of countries and carriers selling itsproduct.
Importers: can you access the App Catalog again?

I bet Jan 7th, is the Christmas day for web OS users, with the availability of flash and maybe GPU access and video recording in 1.4 early feb.
I'm a little upset. I believe Palm said at CES 2009 video feature would be available for the Pre before the end of 2009. We'll here we are and no video. And now we are hearing !anuary 6 or 7 at the 2010 CES. Like I said, I'm upset.
@kkhanmd I hope you are right
1.4 would be a gift of a life time with video and flash player!
Getting this issue on my Sprint Pre too now.
why are you posting this on christmas? Go spend time with your family you workaholic, lol!
+1
I second that. May children have come and gone and the wife is now sleeping for work tonight. This is the one day you can say that you will not be here. It's Christmas.
Since you ask users like me (gsm pre unlocked o2 in switzerland) directly. Yes, I have access to the app catalog again and I have noticed that Palm has worked on this, which I think is cool (this started two to three weeks ago) And yes, there are more apps in my catalog every day, but guess what, I only get the free ones!!!
So I only have access to 65 apps at the moment. Quite frustrating, considering there are almost 1000 out there. I wonder, why this is, I mean credit cards work international, and I would definitely pay for some good apps. Seems like I want them more than Palm wants my money. Hmmmm....
I am in Canada and I just lost access to the app cat. 2 days ago. Not sure why.
I imported 2 GSM Pres to Australia, both previously supposed to be locked to O2 network, but thanks to RebelSIM, now working on Vodafone. One says the Configuration (in Device Info) is "World Ready 1.0". The other one I "accidently" WebOS Doctor'd and it's config says "Sprint 2.0" - I did not take note of what it said before it was doctored. The "World Ready" device lost the App Catalog, but got it back about a week ago. The Catalog seems to be a cut-down version (65 apps using the "Recent" option), and I can't even see apps that I originally saw and installed (eg. AccuWeather). The "Sprint" one never lost the App Catalog, but showed a different list of apps (AccuWeather never shown) - currently showing 189 apps using the "Recent" option. This inconsistent approach makes it look like Palm does not really have a handle on what is going on - all looks pretty unprofessional.
sound like fastnloud in Australia only gets the free ones as well, since 65 is the number of free applications that are currently in my app store....correct?
So the conclusion seems to be: Yes, the app store works again, but where are the apps?
I'm using the O2 GSM Palm Pre that i bought in Germany, Activated on WIFI, with an AT&T sim card inside, all features including ..profile creation, backup, ...visual voicemail app, the app store etc work without issues...
only prob is with 3g ... When im roaming in EU, i get superb 3g..back home in NJ, NY i get E (edge) or G (gprs) only !!
