While we wish that the App Catalog would get the same sort of return period that the Android Market has, we wouldn’t count on it. So how are we to know if the app we’re looking at is the app we want, with only three pictures, a description, and a handful of user reviews/complaints to examine? Video, that’s how! Thanks to the enterprising members of the PreCentral forum, we’re able to bring you a glimpse at how these apps look, work, and run in real life (well, emulator life).
Today, we’re taking a look at Backgammon (by BlueSwitch, $1.99), video courtesy of jhoff80.

Video demos are a great idea. I admit that I am getting a little reluctant to just buy apps without knowing more than what the screenshots and descriptions tell me. I also wish there was a forum that would compare similar apps.
The problem is that it's not often that someone is willing to buy two of a similar app to be able to compare them.
fake
What's "fake"? The app? The Video?
I suspect the program is loaded on the Emulator and that is what the video was taken from... but the app is real.
I have to agree with Derek. I am one of those people who is very reluctant to purchase *ANY* program without being able to see it or try it. This is why demo versions and homebrew versions are extremely useful. Although, video reviews do help.
Looks like a nice piece of backgammon software. Nothing revolutionary that I wouldn't think could have been played on phones 3 or 4 years ago. Expected some better graphics.
As excited as I am to be getting a Palm Pre tomorrow, I'm torn up about finding a replacement for the backgammon app on my iPod Touch. I went through a few different apps, and ultimately stuck with "Backgammon NJ":

Any Palm backgammon developer should compare his work against that. It's excellent.
