Are You Getting a Pre Plus or Pixi Plus? 87

by Dieter Bohn Thu, 21 Jan 2010 4:33 pm EST

Sure, your trusty PreCentral pals have already put up a Palm Pixi Plus Review, but that doesn't mean we can't get a little excited about a Verizon Palm Pixi Plus sighting out in the wild.

This Blurrycam comes from an anonymous teacher thanks to his even more anonymous student. (Students seem like a good demographic for the Pixi, actually.)

Anyhow, it's got us wondering: will you be picking up a Palm Pre Plus or a Palm Pixi Plus?

Thanks, Mr D!

Stickin' with my Pre on Sprint. Best value ever.

Exactly what I was thinking. You can't beat Sprint's prices. I'm on a family plan, so I only end up paying about $45.

I am sticking with Sprint, because I am capable of waiting six months for the actual second-generation Pre (though if early termination fees were not a thing, I'd have switched yesterday).

why the helll would I want another headache on my hands I'll stick with the sprint pre till webos comes along or my contract is due for an upgrade

++2 Sprint got everything i need for an affordable price!! Go Sprint

for those of you who are planning to jump ship on the 25th.. by the time you are allow to upgrade on vzw (25JAN2012)there will be a pre3 out there..jajajajajajajajaja

Sprint won't even be around for a Pre 3, it will be a Verizon exclusive for 6 months. jajajajaja

same like verizon wasn't around when the pre came out?? as you can see, verizon get a refurbished pre with some changes.. its call pre plus.. jajajajajajaj

so when sprint gets pre3.. verizon will then get pre3 plus

No I meant Sprint's business would cease to exist, with all those customers they are bleeding. Ouch.

did u see the poll?? how is that bleeding? ouch

I wasn't aware that there are only 1613 Sprint customers with the Pre.

Getting a Pixi Plus for my girls line.

Vzw FTW!!!

Any rumours about them being available (especially a GSM version) in Canada

No I cannot afford to switch carriers, AGAIN

None of the above options:
Sticking with locked GSM Pre + rebel SIM card

If I could get the Pre Plus on Sprint at an upgrade price, I would do that in a second! But, I will just have to wait until the summer and hope Sprint gets an updated device then!

Pick your carrier first. Quite happy with Sprint, TYVM!

I am happy with Sprint, I love Verizon, but best of all, we will have new folks join us at PreCentral from Verizon to expand the discussions. Let us welcome all of them Verizon brethren :)

Note: Some of these guys from Verizon are very bright, since Verizon has a lot of corporate customers, they will mix well with us corporate, technical, business, and home maker folks from Sprint. I look forward to lively discussions at PreCentral on all topics relating to the Palm Pre and Palm Pixi smart phones.

It will be hairy at first with all the new noobs coming in rehashing complaints and threads about X and Y but I hope it settles down to your vision :-)

I wonder the price it would be for 1 pre on and 1 pixi on vzw and the same for sprint ( the price per account and price for the phones)

Go PALM!!!!! Getting mine first thing monday morning...going now to verizon to get the sneak peek

sticking with sprint!

wait for Pre 2 or 3

Sprint is the only way to go. waiting on JUNE 2010!!!

is there any actual proof sprint will get a "pre 2" in June?

A mystery Palm C40 phone has been showing up on Sprint invoices. This is expected to be either a pre++ or the Pre2. I'm hopeing for the Pre2.

If I would switch I change Phone not CHANGING
SPRINT TO VZW , and I hope Sprint would
get the HTC HD2 soon, 4.3 in 1MHZ I love it,
Not PRE Plus...

If I would switch I change Phone not CHANGING
SPRINT TO VZW , and I hope Sprint would

Palm Pre, but if Palm they trying to leave us on the side
I would change my Phone...

Sprint is supposedly getting something from HTC that is similar to a HD2 running Android and packing WiMax. The fact is there are too many rumors and upcoming handsets and OS revamps to jump at this spec bump.

It's great for VZW customers who want to stay on their network and use WebOS but I would hardly jump ship for it.

I find it odd that so many people are willing to spend hundreds of dollars more to upgrade to a device with some more RAM and one fewer button.

I doubt I would even use my Sprint upgrade to get a Pre Plus in June. It's just too much money to waste on an incremental upgrade. For that kind of money or the use of my yearly subsidy, I want a real upgrade. I'm the same way with my computers. I never bother upgrading the CPU/RAM/video more than once every 2 or 3 years because any more frequently and you still pay the same amount and get less of a bump in specs. I'm waiting for the Pre 2 or WiMax Android or some crazy WM7 thing...whatever is out or on the way this summer.

I'd make the jump to the Pre 2 if it got a CPU bump. If the current Pre was just a little bit faster the UI would be amazing and they could take their time pushing it to the GUI.

@dieter
Please, some love for the non-us demographic (which, by the way is pretty big). I pick (*) getting an imported QWERTZ-device because Palm is not yet prepared to accept my money officially! :)

I'm sticking with sprint. but i hope palm sale 3million pres with vz. and there customers. it'll only make things better for us here at sprint.

I'm on Verizon so Monday I will get the pre plus. BTW has anyone seen commercials for the pre plus or has heard any on the radio? C'mon where is the advertising Verizon?

The numbers in this poll reflect 2 things, 1, for the amount of whining that goes on this website, the happy Pre owners way outnumber the the unhappy ones, 2, the differences between the Pre and the Pre Plus is not worth switching to an overpriced carrier, people are content with their Pre's and waiting to see what Sprint invails this summer.

This doesn't prove your first point that "happy preowners outnumber unhappy ones". It doesn't address satisfaction or happiness. A person could be unsatisfied with a Pre/Pixi in general and thus unwilling to switch to another pre/pixi.And do you honestly think people reading a smartphone blog answering No "hate the future"? They'd probably reading like a buggy whip blog. Logically, a person may be unwilling to switch because of the financial hit from a higher bill and a cancellation fee. Then there are the basic issues with polls like this of multiple voting and the fact that there is no telling weather this is a representative sample of all the people on the site. And what does on the site mean? is it registered in the forums or registered to comment? Or does it include anyone that reads w/o being registered. They could very well still own a pre/pixi. Truthfully you could get to happiness or unhappiness easier just by having a new poll asking the question. YOu'd still have the same issue of not knowing if it's a representative sample however.

I don't dispute the merits of the point that most people on this site are or are not happy. Just that this poll prove neither. it only shows that 81% of the sprint pre/pixi owners answering so far are not planning on switching for whatever reason.

whatever...lol

clearly logic and reasoning are beyond you.

Your comment about this poll reflects two things, you are a cake eater, and "invails" is not a word. Congrats.

Longtime Verizon customer (since they were Bell Atlantic up here) and been waiting a year for a Pre on Verizon.

Sprint has terrible reception around here - lots of my friends that were on Sprint jumped to Verizon for the Storm. Trying to get them to get the Pre+ now.

I'm not worried about not getting my New Every 2 discount - the price of the Pre+ isn't bad at $149 and get a free Pixi+!

Already on Verizon, and since my company buys my phones, I'll let them get me a Pre Plus, and even better, since we're under state contract, we get to upgrade every 10 months, so if a Pre+ or whatever hits VZW too, not a big deal.

Actually, polls like this are just for fun. The numbers mean very little. Let's be realistic, here. People on Sprint have at least 18 months left before they can jump ship without an ETF, right? Of course they're not going to do that, even if VZW had plans priced equally.

I am just happy that Palm is landing on two more networks here in the USA!

Actually a recent adjustment to the contract terms allows us a 30 day window to jump ship for absolutely no cost if we choose to. But we won't.

I wouldn't go to VZW even if they were somehow coming out with a Pre 3.0 right now. No phone is worth the extra $1440 I'd pay over the life of a 2 yr contract. My Sprint plan is 450 minutes, but on VZW I'd have to upgrade to 900 minutes because of the later nights/weekends and no free cell-to-cell. My employer discount cuts my rate to $60/month versus VZW's $120/month (counting the cost of GPS navigation).

Plus as a premiere customer I get a new phone after 1 year instead of 2.

Your comparison is not accurate. You are comparing Apples with Oranges.

I am with Sprint, but stop

I agree - Verizon customers know what they are paying and generally have good reasons to stay with big red. Our interest is in the palm phones and WebOS - not the carrier. I won't knock your carrier if you don't knock mine.

hey not-yet-pre, on Monday, when you get the Pre plus, let us know how awesome it is!

I see only apples here. Similar phones, similar plans, vastly different prices.

My point isn't to knock Verizon, but rather to boost Sprint. More services for far less cost. I love the Pre and the other Palm products I've used, but enough to jump ship to another carrier? Especially one that would actually cost me double what I'm currently paying? That would be absurd. Even if the plan prices were the same as the prior poster postulated and no ETF, I'd stick with the company that gives me annual upgrades instead of every two years.

You are still not getting it! You have not comprehended my point. I am with Sprint; getting the same service with Verizon will only cost me $20 more a month. That is not a lot of money. What if Verizon's service in my area is better than Sprint's, then that $20 is nothing, if by it I am receiving a better service. Some people like Honda cars and others like Audi. The Audi cost more, but these people are willing to pay the added cost for good reason. It is not good to try to boost a company's revenue by trying to create an unpleasant experience for other people. This article is about the Palm Pre Plus and Verizon customers are coming here to enjoy themselves and read up on the new phone. Let them enjoy this moment, please.

The thing is, you're NOT getting the same service for $20/month more. You're getting LESS service.
The free Mobile to Mobile will knock many people down a level on their plan requirements. Before the free M2M, I was on the 900 minute plan. with free M2M, I went down to the 450.
Then there's Sprint's free GPS.

Customer loyalty is a great thing... for companies. For consumers to stick with one company simply because it's what they've always had just because it's what they've always had is nothing less than poor judgement.

You know what's even better than getting a great new phone? Getting a great new phone and saving $40/month.

definitely gonna stay with Sprint. No question. I wouldn't consider any phone that wasn't on sprint. Would be nice to be able to get the Pre Plus on sprint, but I'm ok with waiting until June for an upgrade.

On VZW and looking forward to next week.

I'm sticking with sprint and my pre...looking forward to next pre/webOS device to come on sprint. I'm thinking verizon got good thing n strategy going on each time they get a NEW BIG device they could put support to...when they launched DROID...not soon after they offered BOGO offer...now they doing it again with PALM PRE+/PIXI+...with such an offer...there is no wonder y they have such a big subscription base...ppl love BOGO deals..sprint should follow suit by offering BOGO deal of their own to gain more subscribers..this will help palm and sprint out with more users=more developer interest=more apps=more revenue=more webOS devices.

Not switching to V for these reasons:

1- Where I live and work, Sprint has much better 3g signal than V.
2- The Pre + is really not that much different than my Pre
3- I hate V

Here you have it....

I was supporting you until you got to your last point.

Sorry, I am with Sprint (for wireless), but I am also a Verizon customer (FiOS TV / Internet / Phone). Both Sprint and Verizon are great companies.

and Verizon FiOS is amazing, if they have dedicated app to control DVR from home, that would be great. Current website for it is a little difficult to navigate w/ native Pre browser

As I live in an area with no Sprint service, I've had to wait patiently on the sidelines for the Pre to makes it's way to another service provider. I can't wait to get my hands on one! I'll be switching from ATT to Verizon.

I am with Sprint and happy with my Palm Pre phone (I've owned it for 7 months now). But I have to say, your wait is paying off; you are getting a very nice phone - enjoy!

sprint has been good for the last ten years I've been with them. Plus 24 percent discount plus all the rewards for being what they call a loyal customer, plus verizon and att are trying to play catch up to what sprint has been offering price wise for the last two years. So now while the other companies are trying to play catch up Sprint is still a far superior carrier. Pricing has always been far below hundred dollars for an everything plan. Always. Plus get upgrades every year or sometimes free when they call me for a promo. That's how I got my pre. Is it worth a switch? Hell no.sprint is rockin!

I don't need 50 cards open and 8 gigs is all I need. I'm fine with staying with my 1st gen pre, and sprint has the best plans

I don't know what the big deal is really.
If the 512mb made differences in how the phone ran programs, maybe.
If I didn't use Accuradio and had my whole audio collection on the phone, maybe.
If I didn't watch one of the two movies on the phone then delete and replace, maybe.

I lose track of how many cards I have open now, Why on earth would I need the ability to open more?

My Pre works, Sprint has great service in my area, I'm due for two upgrades in June, we all know Sprint is getting something Palm "soon".

The "pluses" are just a way to differentiate the devices from Sprint and save face at the same time.

I think what this poll really shows is that people don't really frequent the site for a particular OS until they actually have the phone... That and the fact that few ppl will be willing to pay the price of changing carriers explains the number of ppl stickin w/ sprint.

I'd switch back to T-Mobile if they had a WebOS phone. Unlocked GSM would be nice, but it sounds like it won't be a reasonable option for a while.

I'll stick with Sprint, but if every other carrier allows tethering and Sprint refuses to enable it, then I'll look elsewhere when my contract is up.

Come on AT&T!

Yep!!!

this poll is inherently flawed as i imagine most people who frequent this site are Sprint Pre users

Exactly.

Maybe because it's only officially available in the U.S. on Sprint? .)

I don't need 50 cards open and 8 gigs is all I need. I'm fine with staying with my 1st gen pre, and sprint has the best plans

im gunna buy a pre plus and make it work on sprint...

Palm should do that for us... its a joke that they wouldn't offer this phone to the most loyal Palm users in America.

Sprinteeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!! And even though some of you think this poll is flawed because most are regular sprinters on this site but... no, I am not a regular sprinter I just came to Sprint for the pre and love Sprint.

This survey looks as if it was created by an intelligent, sentient being. Good job

I would have preferred if the Sprint Pre and Pixi were split up, just outta curiosity of the number of Pixi users here... but it wasn't half bad. ;)

It would not be a fair comparison. The Palm Pre was released months before the Pixi. If they did a comparison, though one would expect the Pre to have generated significantly more sales, some people will interpret the result to argue that one product is more popular than the other.

Pre Plus, Pixi Plus, or Push?
[X] Sticking with my german GSM Pre (in Germany)

I want a GSM Pixi Plus...for my gf :) She doesn't like my Pre.

Somehow when I ditched SERO to get the Pre they didn't sign me up for any contract because I was still on one. Now I don't have anything holding me back from leaving but I think I will stick with Sprint anyway.

The plan is cheap, the service is good. I will just use the upgrade credit for the next WebOS phone sprint gets thats an upgrade to the Pre.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that Palm would do this to their most loyal customers. When the Sprint users purchased the Pre, (PREmaturely is what it should have been called), we were purchasing not only an under developed under tested hand held device but we were also purchasing a promise from Palm that they would continue to make the Pre the best device out. Now they went and made a Pre Plus which is what the Pre should have been when it originally got released in june

Terry is right. And I think that Sony should upgrade my CRT to LCD, since I was a loyal Sony customer, and they released HD LCD's like right after I bought the CRT TV.

And Honda should replace my car, because the newer model years have more advanced navigation systems, or at least give me a retrofit of my old car to have the newest satellite navigation system. Because without my purchase, they'd never be making that model of car still.

And Dell should upgrade my laptop, free. Their newer model of Latitude has a Core2 that runs 2.4ghz not the 1.8ghz that mine runs. And the wireless does N

How ridiculous are the above three arguments? Yeah, that's how the Palm one you made sounds too..

1st I don't think the companies you mention above are falling behind the competitors asmuch as palm and to release this half ass pre was bogus if we can't upgrade it.

2nd in america you dig your freaking house up and upgrade whenever you want...and all your computer devices, you can go buy the new one if you want it that bad, oh and if you leased your POS honda then you could get a new one, or just go buy the new one if want.... Sprint users can't do anything... Get the point Kat Williams? Were stuck geting laughed at by VZ because they're running around with a phone that we should be able to get.

3rd if you don't have anything constructive/logical to say then keep your little keyboard tucked under your desk. Muah

and come on.... Really? You didn't know an HD LCD was coming out?

And you didn't know that the Pre wasn't Palm's last device?

There should be one more choice in this poll: waiting to see if Sprint gets an all-new Palm device in June.

I WILL be getting a webOS device this year. I just hope it's even better than the Pre Plus. ;-)

Hahaha... Read that Verizon ?? Even the new Palm Pre is not motivating enough for Sprint customers to make the switch. LOL Don't worry guys we'll get our Pre3 in summer ;) but for now I'm loving every moment with my Pre and Sprint!

Since Verizon is the ONLY carrier that has any reception in my neighborhood, I am THRILLED that the new Palm Pre Plus is coming to Verizon. That's right--not Sprint, not AT&T, not T-mobile. I have used Sprint and was very happy with them, but the current location means Verizon. And YES, I will be in line Monday January 25th for my Pre!! Been waiting a L-O-N-N-N-G time!
