AuctionMate Pro for eBay arrives in the HP TouchPad App Catalog 12
If you have been looking for an app on your webOS device that gets you connected directly to eBay, AuctionMate (Free) and AuctionMate Pro ($2.99) for the HP TouchPad in the app catalog (with a smartphone version coming soon). The app not only allows you to quickly search for and manage products on eBay that you want to watch for, but also takes advantage of the notifications system to alert you about changes to products that you have bid on (like if you've been out-bid) and allows you to manage your direct communications with other vendors/shoppers on the mega-auction website.
We've been using the app for a short bit of time already, and it looks very well done and complete with just a few things left to be desired. But we'll give you the full review in the next several days. AuctionMate Pro for eBay takes greater advantage of the unique capabilities of webOS, adding additional features over the free version. With support for webOS notifications, users get notified about important events regarding their accounts (for example, if an auction is ending soon or if they have been outbid on an item) without being totally disrupted. TouchPad users can also read their eBay messages directly within the app. AuctionMate Pro for eBay is available for purchase in the webOS App Catalog.

There´s an authentification problem the devs know about and which has a ticket at ebay. If you don´t succeed connecting your account the first time, make sure to run the whole process again. Usually it works then.

Auctionmate was one of the first 5 apps I bought for my Pre Plus and now that I own a TouchPad, it was one of the first that I searched for and I was so happy to find that it was a launch app and it worked great!!! THe elegance of the multi-pane UI in Auctionamte is ultra-intuitive and the Buy-It-Now feature is a huge add-on for me and and now I can buy & sell from webOS, Tablet-style!!! This app is the Standard for eBay on webOS!
On the large screen of the touchpad is an app for a website really necessary? I don't have an ebay app on my laptop. I have this app for my pre but hitting a website on a small screen can be difficult.
That said I think the notifications and such are nice and the nav is probably better than the native site.
Woulda been nice to have this when buying a Pre- off an eBay auction this week. Oh well, I hope it gets here soon. I miss having webOS on my phone.
I occasionally use this app on my Pre Plus/Veer. It is pretty good, except I think it has the worst app icon.. needs a refresh!
Pretty cool. I am seeing that most Touchpad apps are looking very similar, lots of frames, lots of rows, lots of lines... not very exciting, very simple.
I am not complaining, I just wonder why this is?
Its a new platform, and developers are still getting their heads around the basics of the UI elements. As things move along, expect it to get better (developers can use CSS to override any of the default look of the UI elements)
