Avatar - the game - now in the App Catalog 73
It’s the highest grossing movie of all time and a groundbreaking cinematic experience (seriously, the only 3D this blogger has enjoyed), but Avatar has most been limited to the silver screen. Sure, there’s a console game and an Avatar game for the iPhone, oh, wait, Gameloft has brought James Cameron’s Avatar to webOS. Rock on, blue dudes.
Avatar is the latest PDK-enabled 3D game, and it promises to be one of the more impressive. Not only do you get to dive deep into the world of Pandora, you get to make the same choices made in the film: save the Na’vi or work with your fellow humans. Or are they your fellow humans? The lines get predictably blurry. But this isn’t just any-old scripted role-playing game - you get to fight against the Na’vi, humans, giant beastly things with nasty big pointed teeth. Oh, and did we mention that you get to fly? How cool is that?
James Cameron’s Avatar is available now in the App Catalog for $6.99.

UPDATE: GameLoft is on a roll! I sure hope they can release their Baseball game soon for WebOS. =)
Dude, tell me ur secret on how u are always first, are u useing some type of app?
Whoo, 18th comment.
I'm so much better than the 1st commenter.
Anyway, I've been waiting for this and NOVA.
I wish Gameloft would abuse the gesture area and keyboard for the Palm Pre.
Oh, btw Hondacop. You are worse than dbd, and that's saying something.
lmao, because he's some kid that sits in front of the pc/mac 24/7 and likes to correct everyone because he's so perfect. What a douche; "First post reserved while I read the article!" Can someone give him his cookie now...
dude you most have this site constantly refreshing with an alert to the new article!! You need to leave the house!!
+1
Hmm, I should check it out and see how it plays.
Well, checkit out! The game is beautiful, just like the movie. The control is on point, very good,& the graphics, music,&sound Fx,just like the movie. I'm deeply within the jungle, swinging from limps, shooting,&fighting. The game is easy to pick up,& start playing.Just like the movie,if you are a fan, than you gonna love this game. Go & get it,& start enjoying ur adventure. Ok,I got to go back&play.
hmm, im gonna have to see this for myself, I'll consider it when i have the money!
Derek,
Sorry you have to put up with so many immature posts..
You guys do and excellent job of writing about the Web OS phones.
thanks!
i want to download the game, but i'm hoping it takes more than a day to beat. I beat the other Gameloft webos games quickly. I'd rather have a game be a challenge for $6.99 a pop.
These games are killing my 8 gig limit....
the new contact app, with groups, and text/email lists, is pretty nice as well.
HAHA are the writers scared to mention the update didn't come out today i haven't seen them post anything about it
Scared? We always said that it wasn't a sure thing and leaked Sprint updates have a tendency to be close, but not right on. Sprint at the very least thought the 15th would be the day, but apparently is isn't. That's just how it works sometimes. Do you want us to freak out because our intel didn't pan out?
No Disrespect just seems odd you haven't said anything about it.
I don't know why everyone's so up in arms about the update. First, it was only a rumor. Second, the 15th is a holiday people, which means there's no one in the office at Palm/Sprint to release updates anyway. Besides, since the leak came from inside Sprint, it could mean that Palm will give Sprint the update by the 15th for approval, which then means that we may have another week before it's released to the rest of the world. Don't have a cow people, February's only half over...
Oh it's a holiday is it?? Since when are Sprint and Palm employees of the Federal Government?? Lol...I can tell when a kid is posting because they assume that a day off from school means EVERYONE didn't have to work!
Good point, but some of us don't wear name tags when we work and all of us got the day off.
um both sprint and palm employees worked yesterday. yes the 15th was a holiday however it is not an observed holiday to most companys and hell its really not even a holiday to me. its just another day.
Dont sweat it Derek, you say "could" and some chose to hear "will".
Now Dieter's report, you said "tomorrow", now tomorrow is yesterday. And in Barcelona, it is now the day after "today". LOL
But I'll wait patiently and without showing off my mastery of profanities.
Hey Derek, I suggested this in a thread, but thought I would repeat it here. Any chance you could do an article on exactly what the process is for an update to come out? From the time the developers are done with it to the time it ends up being pushed out to the phones.
Would that be possible? It sure would help quell a lot of the comments and help us understand what exactly goes into the updates.
+1 I'm curios to
That may be possible. I'll see if I can whip something up...
Why can't we all try to be constructive. We are all waiting for 1.4 but don't highjack a games comments post to be upset about a delay in the 1.4 release.
thats why they need to write an article about it so we have something to post in.
I do agree but keep in mind this is journalism. Sprints system said the 15th (and we all know they have been wrong before) and the 15th is not over yet. even on the east coast. So, I guess what im trying to say is wait till the 15th is over before expecting an artile to be wrote on how it didnt happen. Also these guy have to sleep to so real expectations on the story should be for tomorrow before lunch.
We have an entire forum for those needing group therapy for a rumor or guess undelivered and the tizzy its sending some people into.
I REALLY want this game. I absolutely love 3D gaming on webOS. However, the only way I can play any of the games I have downloaded is if I restart my Pre. It has become quite annoying. I really hope this stops once webOS 1.4 comes out. Either way, it's still the best OS out there. Palm rules!!!
I'd need to know more about how the game is played before I'd plunk down any more dough.
Demos, people. C'mon.
I agree! I think we should have more demos and sales would be higher.
yeah agreed,I was not gonna get asspalt 5 due to i had need for speed, but ended up buying it after playing the demo
+1! We need demos... i have bought assasins creed sims and need for speed and i must say i regret the 16 dollars i paid for assasins ans nfsu...
keep up the good work gamesoft! Thanks
I think it is time to put together a decent commenting system... Considering the idiots posting so far, I say one like Gizmodo's is the way to go.
On topic: Anyone actually get this? Lame like most movie games?
Finally!!! Someone who agrees with me that any movie tie-in game is lame just for existing! It's obviously geared towards younger children since that's the demographic that most enjoyed that lame movie.
Yeah the too many cards message sucks. If you have been opening and closing alot different apps throughout the day or past few hours then you will most likely have to reboot. Kind of lame but I can understand, doesn't really bug me much. Anyways this game along with most other Gameloft game is pretty good, as said by others get if ur a fan.
im glad the comment count is dropping. This stuff needs to be cleaned up and be constructive.
Wow, It's like the people at Gameloft don't sleep or something. All the other developers need to step up their game (no pun intended). Having said that, I can't wait until March when the PDK is full released to everyone else.
Now, it'd be nice if they could also release Demos of these games so we can try them out before dropping $10 each time. It really adds up quick! Another plus would be some exclusives, but I'm not really complaining. Having a port is better than nothing at all (let the iphoners work out the bugs).
I just saw the movie again today UHMAZING! So buying it right now! (wheres my card!?)
Another thing would anyone care to tell me please where is this darn update is? I clearly read FEB.15 am I right or wrong?
I honestly wonder If the I-Phone blogs have such immaturity. Anyway, Gameloft is doing an amazing job, and so is Laminar. I wish EA would step up.
On another note, besides what was written about, remember what our wonderful Palm CEO said...
The WebOS update would be out in February. So we still have more than 10 days left to receive the update. '
Look at what Palm has accomplished this far, its really quite amazing to see how far Palm has come with a BRAND NEW OS. The type of development and evolution that WebOS is going through is unheard of. I give them props! Kudos even! I can wait another 10 days so long as WebOS continues to improve.
+1 It's nice to read some positive comments.
+100 to continued improvement for WebOS!!!
13 days there buddy.. got to love simple math (28 - 15= 10?)
...MORE THAN 10 days...
need to brush up on your reading skills since you seem to have your math skills down bud
I think Palm was only working with specific game developers in the beginning, so I would imagine we will see some other developers stepping it up soon. "fingers crossed". Thanks PreCentral for the news even though you get immature posts. And thanks for those of you that have constructive posts. I enjoy stopping by precental.com at the end of my day at work to check things out.
The Avatar game screen shots look very cool. I have been waiting for a Texas Holdem game though so I may have to get World Series of Poker: Hold'em Legend first if reviews are good.
So far this game is pretty fun, great graphics for a mobile game, though we all know the pre can handle better than this since this is only opengl es 1.1.
Can't wait for march!
Thank you for posting a comment on the game..
People , WebOS 1.4. update still waiting ?
Due within 12 days, as promised.
I just saw the movie again today UHMAZING! So buying it right now! (wheres my card!?)
Another thing would anyone care to tell me please where is this darn update is? I clearly read FEB.15 am I right or wrong?
No guarantee it was to be the 15th. Official statement was "IN February". Still 12 days left...
You should "clearly" reread the rumor and resulting conversations.
There is more to a story, than just the picture. Clearly.

Note the ? in the story title.
Note the speculation throughout the story.
Note the Keyword tag "rumor"
Note the forum regulars applying logic to the fact that the 15th was not the end-user release date.
I honestly wonder If the I-Phone blogs have such immaturity. Anyway, Gameloft is doing an amazing job, and so is Laminar. I wish EA would step up.

WTF!! WW4 up in here?! lol seriously though all completely unecessary!
Either way I also just watched Avatar and it was pretty nice! At first I almost couldnt believe that it was animated! Should be a pretty sweet app and I probably will buy it but I have to finish buying all the cars in NFSU and I have to complete the hard level in Oregon Trail... Stupid kids keep breaking legs!!! lol
The best experience I'm having since I got my Palm Pre is from this website, I think you guys are doing an excellent job, Palm should give it a proper value, thanks Precentral for keeping this community and for all the info and fun we get from this.
The game avatar has beautiful graphics, gameplay and controls are good enough, I like the sound, smooth and appropriated for the environment, I think this is the best 3d game for Palm Pre so far.
i hate that dam virtual joy stick theres got to be a better way to control a game on a smart phone...
A lot of the problem has to do with how the pre handles screen touches, if you hold down on the screen it wont register for a second, which makes it difficult to get started moving when your in a game.
I guess i'm missing the boat! The apps that are released have no functionall purpose to them, more games. Honestly a phone makes for a poor game system. When do the productivity apps start to roll?
Cool. . . I look forward to checking out the Avatar game. (Not sure it will out-entertain this thread, but it will have better graphics. . . anyway ;-)
Keep up the good work PreCentral,
T.
C'mon!! Are you people serious?? Avalon WAS NOT that great!! Well...unless you're 12 and never been outside your neighborhood!
Plus, there are SOOOOOO MANY games much, much better that should have been released before this one...but oh well! I guess they figure that all of us just must be geeks and what better way to satisfy us than give us some stupid alien movie game...
Used to be that movie-tie-in games were for little kids...guess not after looking at all these comments!
Im pretty sure the Movie was called Avatar :-p
Excuse me, but I'm 44, a father of 4, very much a professional and successful in my career.
I loved the movie (saw it twice and might see it again).
I even learned to spell Avatar after the 1st time I saw it.
And finally, I'm proud to call myself a geek!!
Geeks unite!! Bad spellers 'untie'!!
It was Fern Gully/Pocahontas on an alien planet.
The effects were spectacular, but the acting, writing ("unobtanium"? Seriously?), plot and pretty much everything except the special effects peaked out at Average at best. it was an enjoyable movie, but there's an important difference between an enjoyable movie and a good movie.
I welcome the game :) Although it is not my cup of tea.
We need to see more 3D games comming to webOS soon. We also need to see the AppStore opening outside US in March too !!! I hope they keep that promise.
DISCLAIMER: Do not send any text messages until you've read this thread.
I was with you for the first half.
I spent $12.00 to see the movie. Who thinks I downloaded the game?
text 2206 to vote!
P.S. Do not text that number with your vote.
I am in the Uk.. none of this stuff is now in the app catalog , there are no paid apps in the UK catalog..
Any idea when this mess will be sorted out?
EU,relax. The paid app catalog is coming ur way. March is not too far away,is it?
Nice game, but i think im gonna pass on this one.
And i jus want to say thanks to Precentral for all this news! This site is my daily tech news feed, and i haven't been able to not read these blogs (DAILY) since the first time I arrived in this site lol! thanks guys.
Very interesting game and I'm just happy for Gameloft that their in some timewarp and able to move most of their IP so quickly to Palm webOS. Interesting movie (visual wise) and great looking graphics for the game.
BTW, has anyone scored an interview with Gameloft on how productive they've been porting their applications to webOS using the PDK or otherwise? Gameloft has one significant advantage over other programming houses, they obviously know how to program for a bunch of different platforms and moving things here is not a big problem.
I'd love to hear the inside story, see what Gameloft has to say directly, and here what one of the major developers thinks of the PDK. Maybe Precentral can score an interview???
Either way, Keep up the Great Work Gameloft and thanks for the review Derek!!!
Sorli...
Last post reserved while I already read the article!
Don't expect an UPDATE. :P
Lmao, haha thumbs up
I'm super excited for this game! I'm so glad Gameloft is bringing all their awesome games to us...
Will the "baseball game" by GameLoft be ready this year for the Palm Pre?
