Bell chops $10 off plans for Palm Pre 25
Canadian brothers and sisters, now is your chance for real savings. As reported by MobileSyrup, if you’re willing to sign on the dotted line for three years, not only will Bell give you a Palm Pre for free, they’ll also chop $10 off per month for the entire term of your contract. Total savings: $360. It’s not uncommon to see a carrier cut the initial purchase price for a phone (they make the majority of their money off the service plan), but seeing any carrier cut the monthly service charge for just one phone’s promotion is a surprising maneuver. Our guess: Bell is (still) having trouble selling the Pre, or is clearing inventory for something new. Or both.
The $10 off every month promotion is good until the end of March (discounts continue for the life of the contract, you just have to sign up by the end of the month) and on any of Bell’s Smartphone Combo plans, ranging from $50 a month to $100 a month. All Smartphone Combo plans come with 3 GB of data service and free tethering.

"We'll pay you $10 per month to take this phone"
This is Amazing. PRE is getting a sweet deal.
It's sad to go on Bell's page and see the Samsung R330 costing $30 and the Pre costing 0. Naturally the plans cost more, but still.
Damn maybe I should have waited out the month and a half for that then. BUT I went with the bold 9700 with them for the 3 years. If this had been released like 2 months ago I would have gone Palm.
You had to write this line..
"clearing inventory for something new"
Now our canadian brothers will say:
"I'll just wait for the new one rather than wasting my money on the current one"...
You are not helping bell at all.. ahhahahaha... ;)
new phones from palm announced next week + flash so don't worry people. TRUST ME!!
Seriously... where are getting this info. I'm losing faith here.
I'd be very surprised to see anything new come out of Palm. They are spending their energy looking for a buyer, not in developing new hardware.
And your information on this is based on... ? I suppose you hear all sorts of juicy gossip living under a bridge...
Not trying to start anything. Just my opinion. I love my Pre and webOS, but I honestly do not think there will be anything new unless they partner with a cash source. I will be first to buy a better built device running webOS if one is offered.
Trust me, I'm a Canadian cutomer and out of the all the Bell stores and Kiosk's where I am from... Even Futureshop and The Source as well (at least 5-7 stores that I have been to), none of the reps. seem educated about the Pre or webOS in general.
I know more as a consumer than either on of the reps that I have dealt with.
As far as I'm concerned, if you sell the product, then promote the product...actually, go a step further and know your job.
I work in the e-learning field therefore I think there should be training material provided by the product owner (PALM) to the Bell/Verison/whomever reps. so that they can better promote and sell the gear. Mandatory.
Funny side note. I called Futureshop a few weeks ago to ask if they had the Touchstone in stock... he went to check and came back a few seconds later and said. Yes sir, we have a couple tombstones available here.
I was going to say I wasn't dead yet. Gve me a few more years at least.
Haha.
Sorry for the rant.
I agree. I went in to Best Buy to try and replace my pre because it oreos badly, but the guy had to call some "Best Buy gods" on the phone to get authorization on the warranty claim. My rep had to explain to the guy on the phone that the pre was a "slider phone." Really...they don't even know what the phone looks like.
Needless to say no one would give me a new phone because no one had ever used one before. The guy didn't even know how to get around on the phone. Very sad really.
Wow 3 years is a long contract
We have shorter contracts here in Canada, but the 3 year always has the best deal. On every carrier. And I hate to say it, but I get it. They don't give a crap about what phone you buy, they just want you to buy their contract.
This is quite the conundrum now... should I wait for the possibility of a Pre Plus, or perhaps even finding the Pre over at Telus, or cash in on this sweet deal...
Quick correction though: Bell smartphone plans start at 500MB ($50 plan) and up to 3GB ($100 plan).
was just about to write that, cause I'm on the 500mb plan and was about to call bell
500mb does me just fine though since i'm always using WiFi
I'm waiting till August till my Fido contract is up and i'm moving on to where ever the best Palm phone is,, Hopefully a GSM Pre+ would be nice,
At one point I remember it was 349.99 with no contract, for like a week or so. Kinda regret didn't make the jump.
If you don't want a contract, buy it from craigslist or Ebay. i got mines for under 200$, although that is hard to come by, i was at the right place at the right time. 250 should be able to get you one with no contract.
Well with this promo the 3-year contract might be worth it.
40 bucks for 200+200mins, 500MB data, unlim text is hard to beat. My Fido contract was just up, only downside for me to switch is $90 DECF from the 6GB and CDMA. I think there's another promo to throw in free after 6PM as well that may or may not be combined.
I'm actually tempted to take this, then get a Verizon Pre Plus Dev edition, and swap the modem boards. Hey, I might have the first Pre Plus in Canada...
In the Globe and Mail today
Palm placed on death watch
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investment-ideas/palm-plac...
And the stock price has slipped drastically today.....closing at 4.08, which is down from the previous day's close of 5.65.
Any bets that we might see WebOS 1.5 as the final roll out before Palm goes belly up??
Reason why they are having a hard time selling the Pre from my experience: They tell everyone false info about the Pre is "Sucky, don't bother with it" and push that POS Omnia II (ex Omnia owner) on everyone because Samsung is in bed with them.
It's true. When I bought my Palm Pre they told me that they don't sell very many of them... no one likes them they said. After I bought the Pre, I sold my Pro. We went to the kiosk to transfer the phone ownership and the guy who works there didn't know anything about it either. Said he'd heard lots of bad things about them. Thought I was going to lose the sale, but fortunately the lady I was selling it to had done her research and didn't believe him.
