Bell Pre Burning Up YouTube, Takes a Page from McNamee's Playbook 20
Episode 2 of Bell's "Meet My Palm Pre" video series has been posted. Called "That phone goes great with your nails", this new video looks to show that the Pre appeals to women by having a guy show it off in a nail salon. Reached for comment, Roger McNamee said "See, I told you the mirror would be a hit with women," while women said "Fiddle de dee, Roger, that Pre has given us the vapors."
Setting aside the tone-deaf clichés and assumptions about what women want in a smartphone that are implicit in the ad, it does continues the first episode's tactic of showing not only what the Pre can do for you, but how practical it is to use the phone's features.
Also hitting the YouTube waves lately is MobileSyrup's overview of the Pre in video form. Part 1 gives a basic rundown of the hardware, card system, and gesture area, while part 2 goes more into depth. As expected, the Sprint-branded apps, like Sprint Navigation, are absent as is the Amazon MP3 store. Part 3 covers the Touchstone, which reportedly will cost $79.95 Canadian.

I like these ads. Seems like Bell is doing a decent job at not trying to follow in Palm's foot steps with miss creepy.
I like these ads as well....these are 2 million times better than the creepy woman ads all over the place.
I find the "mirror" on the back of the Pre useless. It has a distorted reflection (who could put on their makeup in a funhouse mirror?) and it's always covered with smudges from my hands.
I don't even call it a mirror. I call it shiny reflective plastic.
please his toes are creepier than anything that palm does in its commercials.
The salient comparison for this ad is not the Palm Creepy Girl ads. It's Sprint's NOW network ads that feature the Pre.
Just sayin'.
Agreed, I don't even think the Sprint commercials are that effective either, it's always just a quick passing reference to the pre, for all of like 2 seconds.
Hmmm, I always thought it meant to sweat. (a term women used in 1800's), I think it was a line in "Gone With the Wind".
But, on topic...
No Amazon MP3 store?, That's too bad. I kinda like being able to buy a track after discovering something new via Pandora, or more likely, on mvyradio.com, the best radio station anywhere. Broadcasting from a little cottage on the island of Martha's Vineyard, off the coast of Cape Cod, MA, (where the current US president is creating quite a "stir" there this week.) ;-) It streams multiple feeds at myyradio.com (sorry about the plug. but it really is a great station, and that is rare these days.)
Back on topic - and of course, they don't get Sprint Nav, which has proven to be every bit a good as a GPS as the Garmin nuvi in the car. (better in some cases.) ...makes me remember just how good (and cheap), Sprint's services are.
These ads however, ...meh. to me, a dumb premise, but at least they show off the phone pretty well.
The Pre ads are getting better... Enough with the creepy chick
