Bell Wants Us To Meet Their Pre 46
Bell is certainly taking their upcoming Palm Pre launch seriously. The above video is the first episode of what seems to be a new Bell online Palm Pre campaign. Very well done, in my opinion, this video uses everyday people on the street and gets their opinion on the Palm Pre.
This kind of product advertising is always effective in my eyes. Unlike the Palm commercials, which seem disconnected from reality, this video seems grounded in the reality of everyday life, showing the Pre can do things the average person desires, but might not think of offhand, like photo uploading to facebook.
Also in Bell news is this this new Bell TV spot:
The video, as Engadget points out, is strikingly similar to the iPhone ads. But maybe that's not a bad thing. Love or hate the iPhone, their tv ads are successful. They directly show off key features of the device. This is the kind of advertising the Palm Pre needs in order to get its foot in the door for the average consumer who isn't a smartphone buff.
Also very interesting in the TV spot is how Google Maps is operating. It rotates! This has led some to believe the Bell Palm Pre will include WebOS 1.2, while others just think it's an overzealous ad man. With the Palm Pre coming to Bell on August 27th, we certainly won't have long to wait to find out.

Is my phone screwed or is this all special effects. Forgetting the google rotate for a minute, but when I click a card to zoom into it, its choppily zooms in. This shows everything happening like butter with no pauses.
That is going to be video editing.
The iPhone commercials do that too. Some of the small print on those iPhone commercials point out that some features demostated are "time accelerated" or something.
What am I seeing here? Is this advertising that actually advertises the phone's features, AND the phone?
Yeah, that's way better than the "Pre Chick in the Sky with Diamonds" approach that Palm has taken.
"she knows her **** ehhh" hahah Canadians. All jokes aside Palm in the US has not done a good enough job advertising the pre. The more users the better.
Mmmm... hot Canadian women. Great for those cold Canadian nights.
She's got kind of a Lindsey Lohan look going, but what the heck. I say ditch the creepy Pre chick and bring in the Canadian spokesbabe!
Wow, I like Canadians. Here in Buffalo, we do like to make fun of them, of course, but seriously, why can you find bad to say about a country that can manage to give its people both free healthcare AND Pre commercials that actually make sense? We can't seem to do either here. /me hangs head in shame.
Keep up the good work, Bell. Great video!
Canadian health care isn't free, it's paid for by taxes. The commercial is an improvement over Palm's ads though.
Let's not get too far off topic here, but just one small point of correction, if I may. You seem to have misinterpreted my use of the word "free". All I meant by it was that everyone has equal access to it, with no direct out of pocket cost for usage. I didn't mean no one pays for it.
OF COURSE, it's paid for by taxes. Everything has to be paid for somehow. Nothing in the world is actually free of cost. That goes without saying. All better now? Good. :)
In any case, this is hardly relevant to the topic at hand. (And yes, I realize I opened a box I probably shouldn't have, so now I'll do my best to close it.) Once again, great video, Bell, and good commercial.
I'll refrain from making an easy political swipe (re: healthcare) and just say I completely agree with the Pre commercials being very sad in the U.S.
Hmmm, wonder what a political swipe gesture looks like on a Pre...? (but I'm with you on the health care thing. They've got plenty of problems with their system up north)
I believe the Political Swipe Gesture only uses your middle finger.
ROFLMAO! Perfect!
Backseat marketing experts....
Why is everyone so concerned about marketing?
That's sprint's and palm's jobs.
Well I would be worried. Take a look at the news lately. Palm isn't doing so well. If for some reason they .. ooo... go bankrupt, or stop production or support for the Pre. Well that means I bought a cool phone that only makes phone calls (if that.) Plus I am a share holder.
Thank you! we all are experts on marketing... Palm, Sprint, they are just a bunch of overpaid idiots.
QUIT TALKING ABOUT THE COMMERCIALS, I WANT TO READ SOMETHING ELSE ON THIS STUPID SITE
The great thing about a site like this is that if you don't like a particular topic you can just skip it. You might want to give that a try instead of ranting.
That would be true if it was not for the fact that every other topic is about that. It's becoming a place for people like you to whine over and over and over....
So that leaves half the articles for you to read.
These are much better commercials than in the US. I really wish someone would have tested those commercials out better. EVERYONE I know says they were reluctant to even look at the Pre because of the "creepy" ads.
Kudos to the Bell for good ads. At least they learned from Sprint's mistakes.
Sprint's mistakes? Did you mean "Palm's mistakes"? I think most people consider the Sprint ads to be rather good.
Touche, maybe Sprint isn't to blame. But those ads are god awful. No test marketing should have said otherwise.
I LOVE the Google maps..I can't wait.. hopefully this really releases it with the webos 1.2 and it improves the phone even more...Hopefully this will improve the application store... =D
cant wait!
I think they need more advertising like that in the US. If I were an average person, I would have a hard time getting excited by the advertising I see in the US, as they don't show what the pre does that makes it really special.
Heck, at least bring back ski mask guy. At least he made me laugh.
Ha ha ha. It's funny when girls try to be tech savvy.
(Sorry if this offends)
The advantage to the Canadian health care system is that I can suffer as many heart attacks as my body can handle through the anticipation and excitement of the August 27th launch date, and not have to directly pay for it.
I do have to admit one thing though, and that is I have not seen any advertising of the Palm Pre through Bell that has not been internet directed (meaning unless there was a link to YouTube or something, I haven
I Take It I'm THe Only One Who Noticed The Microphone Is On The Other Side Of The Phone I May Be Overlooking Something But Is There Any Reason In Particular For That?
The funny thing is all through the commercial the mic is on the left until the last picture. Maybe this is a left handed version like their health care. Sorry...
