Black Friday sales for webOS apps 30

Black Friday Sale

While we wait for the Palm Pre 2 to arrive domestically on store shelves this holiday season, and webOS 2.0 at some point in "the coming months," webOS apps may be the next best thing. It just so happens that many are currently on sale. So if you're in the shopping mood, and we assume you are, here are just some of the apps you'll find on sale this holiday weekend:

These are only a handful of the webOS apps you can find on sale in the Palm App Catalog. To find more sale apps we recommend entering the word "sale" in the app catalog's search field. Then sort, swipe, and download your way to some great holiday savings. Best part: you don't have to wait in line for hours to get the best deals!

Don't forget Gamer Friends for PSN. The only PSN app on webOS to directly gather your PSN friends list. It is also the highest rated PSN app for HP webOS. It is currently 33% off for a limited time.

(shameless plug)

I purchased the app about a month ago and was wondering if Sony allows us to send messages with your app. If so, will that be a feature you will include.

Thanks for your support :)

Unfortunately, since there is no messaging capability through the PlayStation website, there cannot be the functionality within the app. If they ever add it on their site, you can bet it will be in the app shortly thereafter though, because that is the main thing the app is missing.

Oooh quick question, so does the app get trophy data from the US playstation site now? I know that was an issue with getting trophy data before and I can see all of my trophy data on the playstation website; however, hidden trophies are still unavailable in the app. I don't know if that's a limitation of the website or anything, so just wondering.

The app currently relies on a third party trophy API, however that is being worked on. It is intended that the app will in the near future be self sufficient in all of the data (in that it can gather all of the data on-device without the need for an API server).

The only way to get trophy data with all of the trophies listed is for you to be authenticated when you view a user's trophy list (or at least in my testing). I intend to get a new version out that supports:

On-device gathering of data (no more reliance of API servers)
Ability to hot-patch files in case Sony changes something with the site that causes an issue with the data (just the other day they changed the user icon image HTML tag, which required a very slight on-server adjustment; if this happens without hot-patching of files on-device and in-app, it could take a week or more to get a fixed version out)
Caching of all PSN images (platinum, gold, silver, and bronze trophies; user icons, trophy icons, etc.)

It will take a little while to get this out, but I expect it to be available within (as Palm would say) "the coming months." I am hoping sooner rather than later, but in order to make the on-device data gathering as good as I can and the hot-patching as smooth and good as I can, it will take some time.

In the meantime, I will be working on updating my server-based API to (hopefully) support trophy data.

So to answer your question quicker:

As soon as I get the new major version of Gamer Friends for PSN out (which will be Gamer Friends for PSN 2.0), the hidden trophies will mostly be gone and it should at that time show the full list.

Oh cool, that's quite a lot. It sounds like you're working on it in a way that will be much more beneficial to the app and future development on the whole, which of course will take time. It's great that you put so much work and thought into the app.

I'm buying it :)

Thanks for the quick response! I'll be looking forward for your updates.

You convinced me to buy your app. ;) I could see this being very handy since me and my friends are always competing.

That said, the server you're syncing trophies from is missing some games. =/ I was looking at my profile and noticed Fist of the North Star was nowhere to be seen.

Thank you for your purchase and support of the app.

Regarding the missing trophies issue, that is addressed a little bit above and it is something I am actively working on, but it will require quite a few modifications to the app (to handle the gathering of data on-device and not on-server). In the meantime I am working on a server-side trophy API, but it is moving slowly (due to the nature of the PlayStation website and the way it expects to receive data in order to provide trophy information).

I hope to have the server-side trophy API fully finished (and no longer rely on a third party) around the middle of next month. I want to make sure it is polished before I enable the API so as to prevent any major issues from popping up.

Good deal. I'll have to grab a few of these.

feeling some love

Eh. Not worth it to me. I'm still waiting to see if I should switch to the EVO if no new hardware is announced for Sprint at CES

Would like to see Auctionmate Pro and Angry Birds go on sale. (Yes I know Angry Birds is worth the 2 bucks. I'm cheap.)

If you're cheap why did you get a smartphone instead of a phone that only does calls?

thanks for the tip. Also if you use the free app "on sale" it will show you all the apss on sale

2.0 or we go
2.0 or we go
2.0 or we go

That won't mean anything until you do it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Scratch is still on sale through the month of November and both Smiles Drop and Smiles Zen are half-off ($0.99).

Pack-n-Track shows up as $4.99 in the catalog, not $3.99.

I hate Black Friday. It is my annual Buy Nothing Day.

Grrr. The double post bug still exists in webOS 2.0. Posting from my Pre 2 Dev Phone.

BUT, very very cool is that the page now scrolls the text box as I continue to type. I apologize for typing what is now clearly nonsense text, but it's just very cool to see the text box scroll back and forth kind of like an old typewriter would.

2.0 or we go.

Where the heck is my 2.0 update from Palm/Sprint? Saying "in the coming months" is meaningless & unacceptible. Palm/Sprint, etc., give us an actual release date already. Come on people, get it together.

Well it could be the fact that webOS 2.0 isn't ready for the masses considering it is still fairly buggy. (Using a Pre 2 as my primary device right now).

You could also search for the word "holiday" to find the sales for this holiday season, there are already some apps in the catalog

whenever i see these app sales i always think to myself how great it would be if palm's app catalog didn't suck.

Wow a sale. It really isn't the money, but even if I had a Commodore 64 lying around, why would I buy any apps for it? Palm in the U.S. is all but dead and throwing good money towards apps that are on a dead platform makes no sense. The better move would be to boycott all purchases of apps until webOS 2 comes out. They may not listen to the base, but would to developers who are pissed and leaving.

If everyone thought like you did, there wouldn't be all the hoopla over the removal of Classic from webOS 2.0.

And you're right. Palm is dead. It's not part of HP.

Would be nice if they put the Sims 3 app on sale. Always wanted to try it, but not for the price they're selling it.

Bought forge extreme , not into racing but this app is all action and upgrades, stuff I love. Great app, must buy.
