Box.net offering 50GB Free Cloud Storage to TouchPad Owners 35
If you had a chance to catch the latest TouchPad Hands-on Demo at Walmart (and you really should if you haven't), you might have noticed something pretty cool near the end of the video. Beneath the glare of the overhead lighting, we were given a little treat when user rbrown530 opened up the Box.net app. A quick startup video gives a demonstration of what the app can do (as an alternative to Dropbox and ZumoDrive) and then displays the information from the image taken above: 50 GB of Free cloud storage for all TouchPad owners through Box.net.
For a Wifi only device that is being touted as the "Better than Number 1" web-based tablet, having 50 GB of free cloud storage provided by a launch partner is a solid win for HP (and for early buyers). 50 GB through Box.net would normally cost $20/month, though we aren't entirely sure how long this offer will last or for how many months you'll be able to use the 50GB of storage. If we were to take a guess, we'd say that the offer will be good for a few months, as long as you're using the TouchPad in conjunction with the service, and that's a big deal.

amazing
how so? I'd rather take that savings and put it towards the touchpad to bring it to a reasonable price.
it did bring the price down 64 GB of IP cost a lot more than 16 + 50 gb of TP
this would revolutionary, if it happens, though I am skeptical, why would H/P offer if through box.net, when they have tons of cloud stuff themselves.
They might be trying to accommodate existing Box.net users, rather than forcing them to migrate to a different storage solution.
Maybe Box Net paid HP to feature on their device and this was an incentive... dunno
Or maybe HP is using Box as a front end and the storage is at an HP data center. There are lots of possibilities because you never really know who is supplying the technology to these cloud-based companies. A lot of the time they are already HP customers and these deals just make their relationship better.
Maybe it's a typo (hopefully not), they do offer 5GB free on the iPad from what I have read.
I would say because they aren't ready yet with their own solution (like with Music Synergy where they use Amazons service instead).
This could really cure 16GB of space available on low end TP. Plus this would be first in industry to give so much space to user. I can see so many positive reviews about it. Still wonder why box.net?
I went looking for reviews and it sounds like box.net has advanced features that gear it more towards "enterprise". In a way, it's perfect for that particular target audience.
I hope drop box does something similar
I wonder if HP's in the market for a consumer-grade cloud hosting company.
Actually, I assume that it'll be 50GB free for a year or some such thing.
Which still would be a very good offer. I hope this also counts outside of the US ;)
Agreed, at the very least it gets people looking at the HP TouchPad AND Box.net who would have normally passed over it as early adopters. I've commented this a million times so I'll comment at least one more time. I WILL BE FIRST IN LINE AT THE POUGHKEEPSIE, NY BESTBUY!!! I
box.net is great - i use them for a ton of stuff and will definitely be taking advantage of this on the Touchpad. Hats off to Dylan and the rest of the team over at Box.net for offering this with HP!!
This is a big win for HP!!
Looks like you can edit files in Box too, or am I wrong?
Yeah, I remember Box.net was included in Synergy in one of the leaked screenshots.
wow. Impressive.
I'm still going to get the 32Gb. I'm worried it's only good for a year or some other catch.
I use box A LOT already on my Pre-, It's great when for listening to music that I don't feel like loading onto my PC, then transferring them...
I just hope I don't NEED to create a new account for this :\
SCORE!
If 50gb storage is normally $20/mo then my guess is this offer is good for 1-3 months when you create a new account.
Prolly is a teaser but lets say its a year promo that is still a win.
That would be worth $240... quite a promo.
It's not a matter of getting anything ready. HP is worldwide #1 in Servers and #2 in storage, maybe it's just a quid pro quo. Clever.
Who knows...but it looks like good news to me and I would use it. Score! Sorli...
I think it's just a partnership. It definitely makes Box more compelling than it's most direct competitor. If it's just a trial, there's definitely enough there to make it worth a Touchpad owner's time.
Not only is this an awesome deal, but it's great to have a 1st party solution! I LOVE dropboxify but you never know when a company is going to cut out its 3rd party devs.
Why can I post a comment from an iPad but not from a palm pre-?????????? And this is a pre site! Wtf
They probably are eliminating the legacy devices here too: too many Sprint whines maybe?
That was made in jest.
yeah posting from Pre - is a common problem here on precentral. Watch out thread "Why is precentral not working" in the forums. You can go there and comment as they are just working on it
