Brothers in Arms brings the FPS to webOS 51
Gameloft sure isn’t taking any time off when it comes to porting games to webOS with that fancy schmancy PDK. Today landed a 3D game category that many have clamored for since PDK games first arrived: the first person shooter. And it comes in the form of a game that has proven to be quite popular on the iPhone platform. It’s Gameloft’s Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes. Based in WWII, you play a soldier in the United States Army’s 101st Airborne Division and fight your way through Africa and Europe. The game isn’t a straightforward FPS, as you also get full use of a variety of vehicles, including the ultimate man machine - the tank. Interested in aiding in the liberation of a digital Europe? Hit up the App Catalog now, where Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes is available for just $4.99.
Thanks to sketch42 for the tip!

sweeet!!!! I love gameloft
As this website gets more and more traffic, I wish there was a way to rate comments, so the lower rated comments or their replies could be banished to the bottom....or vice versa good comments on the top....
I'm with you on that. Sometimes I like the way Gizmodo does things where you have to "audition" for your commenting status, but I also like how Engadget works things with the fading out, alot like how you described it.
I couldn't agree more. User-based moderation is badly needed... Slashdot is a another example of a good way to handle it. And the forums? Ug. Again, *extremely* useful, but also a total nightmare of noise.
whats wrong with my comment?
I didn't think anything wrong with your comment. I was referring to all the "first" and "iPhone can do this why not the Pre" comments.
I actually agree. Nothing is wrong with your comment, but when there are 200 plus replies in some topics, might be nice to read those that really express an idea first, ya know?
I'd love to see something like this implemented.
This is why the pre beats the pixi. Fps rule.
awesome DLing it now....bring me an fps+ game:)
hmmm a new company called laminar research has released several games today:
x-plane carrier (combat shooter)
apollo (moon landing sim? hah)
giant fighting robots (name says it all)
has anyone DLed any of there yet and what are the impressions?
Laminar makes arguably the best flight sim on the desktop (and now the only real flight sim).
X-Plane Carrier is alright... wish they'd release X-Plane Extreme.
You know...this is really awesome. I have been playing this game on my iTouch for the past few months. It is a PS2 quality game. I remember thinking...man...the best I have on my Pre is Zombie Invaision. I never thought just a few months later I would be downloading BIA on my Pre. Give me Docs to Go so I can work...and I am fully satisfied with my Pre!
If this game is as good as their Assassin game, it is going to be well worth the even lower price. Gameloft is really stealing the Pre headlines!! (And it looks like it is deserved, too)
loved the original BIA for the xbox and sure I'll be getting this rather soon. Well as soon as wifey okays it, lol.
woohoo nice looking game!
Great!
I really enjoyed the BIA series on PC and specifically the way they handled squad-based strategy and tactics.
Very interested to see how they implement this on a mobile platform. Downloading now. And kudos to Gameloft for really rocking the PDK.
On a side note... I've seen this question asked many times, with no clear answer: Why aren't these releases front & center in the app catalog? I would have missed the recent release of Assassin's Creed if not for Precentral's head's up - and this game (buried 4-5 flicks down in Recent apps). The People app, on the other hand, has been pegged to the top bar for days. Anyone know what gives?
If nothing else, the App Catalog sorely needs some sort of "Showcase" up front, apart from Recent releases, that highlights these more sophisticated offerings.
Indeed. And they need sub-categories for catalog groups that have a lot of entries (like games). It's becoming difficult to find the gems. Not a big deal for those of us who watch precentral daily, but what about joe public?
Dammit! Gameloft, EA and all these games are gonna Bankrupt me!!!!
(this is known as a GOOD problem!)
nb
while I'm really excited about these games they have most of these as trial games aswell as buying option for the iphone why are the ones for the pre just going right to the paid apps kinda sucks
Agreed. But at least people are posting videos of the games in action (for real... not marketing stuff). When I saw Assassins on the Pre on Youtube, I was ready to spend the $.
See the other main news article about the new demo version of NFS...
*Asphalt5*
Oops!!!! Sorry!! Yes, Asphalt5 :)
i havent downloaded none of the other gameloft games because they havent won me over. But this FPS have at first sight. As soon as i've seen this, i went on my Pre and pressed download. In another 5 mins. i will be busy playing this game = )
Couldn't you have waited 5 min BEFORE posting so you could tell us what you think of the game, rather than the fact that you are downloading it?
"Bring FPS"? For sure it's not the first FPS for the Pre, did everyone forgot about Doom? :P
And then Quake
niceeeeee Might download tonight
now there's a flight simulator game!!!
x-plane carrier!!!
same here just purchased the 2600 and getting it wednesday.. cant wait 8)
Looks cool ... does it come with a bigger battery? ;-)
Lets Golf is killing my battery, it may be time to upgrade to the 2600.
*meant to put my post here and not the one above*
Guys, if this is the same awesome BIA that was released on the IPhone/IPod Touch, it is not a FPS.
Its a third-person shooter: TPS.
EXACTLY what I was going to type!
lol they should update the title
What? why is everyone excited about this when laminar research just ported over their giant fighting robots simulation tastefully titled "Giant Fighting Robots"
here's something to be excited about...http://www.gameloft.com/iphone-games/
it shows all of the games that Gameloft has made for the iPhone. Considering 4 or 5 of these have already been ported to the Pre, is it reasonable to say that many more will be in the coming weeks? I think so...what say you?
That would be cool! I'm looking at the site now... Notice the pic on the Pre screen at the top? Looks like there are more coming for sure!
Shrek Kart would be fun!
Looks promising...only Youtube video from an iphone, but worth the search and look.
They are keeping busy....
What happened to EA Mobile? They have a nice selection of mobile games but have only ported a couple to the pre.
EAs probably waiting on Feb when the big money starts flying.
keep em coming. This is exactly the sort of thing WebOS needs.
Are those american soldiers showing off their paid apps and 3d games to the oppressed locals?
Gameloft is just hammering these games out left and right! I wish Glu could do the same thing... They have some sweet games too! But at any rate, the more and more games out there the more and more my wallet gets depleted. :) I love it! Who needs milk and bread when you have 3D games on your Pre!
This game is pretty good. The controls are kinda choppy and at times awkward. I gave it a 4 because of the controls. But the sound/graphics are sweet. I think this is an awesome first attempt but lets roll out a few more and refine the fps. If palm was smart they would make a new phone now and build it sliding sideways and put a joystick in it with a virtual keyboard. No real keyboard. Just a slideout joystick. Palm Gamer friendly. That would be tight.
I want a landscape ACTUAL keyboard and a 5-way-nav in the next Pre.... The Pre's portrait keyboard is very limiting (orientation) and way too small and mushy :( Lack of 5-way-nav controller makes everything harder.
Would like to see Medal of Honor now. Oh crap wait that's an EA game....
Yo sum of dez levelz r hella hard. im dying to many times, but im getting use to the controlz. not use to a virtual joystick.
Yeah......it's a third person shooter. Still no FPS love in the App Catalog.
