Bug talk, new hardware discussion... From the Forums 32
by Robert Werlinger Wed, 04 Aug 2010 11:52 am EDT
Here's some of the latest talk in the forums:
- People have been clamoring for new hardware for what seems like a year now, and wv06 wants to know if they're alone in wanting the design of the Pre to stay.
- Forum hero HardBeatZ wants to know which software bugs in webOS annoy you the most. Here's one of mine: I have, on occasion, closed the phone app to end a call only to have it get rid of the UI for the app, but remain on the call. Annoying!
- Forum members are talking strategy: Should Palm do what Samsung is doing with its Galaxy lineup of phones?
- boogaloo1 wants to know if they're crazy for pondering the switch from the Pre to the Evo.

What annoys me is that the UI will lag, freeze and I have to wait for it to reboot while I'm at work. It happens when I need to use it asap.
It usually happens when I'm multitasking quickly. I'm on a Sprint Pre from 7-2009. Maybe I just need more ram like the Plus model.
I also have Aim and a Bluetooth headset running all day. If it wasn't for the Seido 2600 mah battery it wouldn't make it through half the day. This is where I need the Mojo Messaging Service so I can go back to the stock battery.
Won't ever happen for you... Palm seems to think that only Verizon or AT&T customers are deserving
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.. I also continuously get the Too Many Cards Error when there's something I really need to do even if I have NO cards open! I thought maybe if it were the Plus phone and not the lower memory sprint phone that I'd get that less.
where the hell is FLASH
Um Guys... Flash on Android 2.2 is seamless to actual web browsing. I can't believe it. Every little interactive box works like it should. Come to the light!! Oh and I can actually see what I'm doing too... WOW!!
I hope the next webos phone will be satisfactory.
"satisfactory" Not an option this time around. It must be perfect. No hardware issues.
My bugfix votes:
- broken email formatting
- tiny crappy contact image sent to google contacts
the one that really gets to me is when I have 2 or 3 cards and it give me that Too Many Cards plz toss some away message. Ehrrr that's when I throw my pre to the side.
never have had that phone closing problem myself. That and the TMC problem is a thing of the past with uberkernel or any of the other compache capable ones.
That being said, I would love a push messaging system, forget to log out of msn or facebook, and battery is toast within a few hours :(

I'm due for an upgrade October 1st. As of right now I'm leaning towards the Evo. I'm hoping that Palm would at least make an announcement before then. But even if I get the Evo, I'm still gonna get the new Palm.
The keyboard accuracy improved with the last update but it still needs work.
Also improved scrolling through photos so it doesn't freeze for half a minute when trying to attach photos to email.
The headline says:
boogaloo1 wants to know if they're crazy for pondering the switch from the Pre to the Evo
Actually, that's NOT what boogaloo1 asked. He asked if he was crazy for the switch from the Evo TO the Pre.
(he's not)
the author needs to correct this. the topic is listed backwards because the guy is planning to ditch EVO for a Pre...

Where is webOS 1.4.5 on Sprint?
TMC will go away after installing uberkernal. Do it from preware. A child could do this so stop whining like babies.
and sprint store said they will be getting new palm phone with newer webOS system(i asked yesterday) but doesn't think it's called pre n the guy didn't know when but knows it's coming.
Ok - I've been patient. I'm a Palm lover and a Pre owner since early Day 1. I'm not one to jump ship - I love webOS that much. But - my patience is growing thin.
Here's my rant: HP/Palm - please do something/anything. Tease me, give me some hope. Heck - at the least - announce a date in the future that will be -the-day that something NEW will be announced. You don't have to announce the product - just a date....
To me - it just seems like a whole lot of nothing is going on. 1.4.5 Sprint= where are you? New hardware - no one even has a clue whatsoever. Flash (I know - not Palms fault)? Heck - Precentral stories are focusing soley on message boards and apps. We got nothing.
I know - better days are ahead. Patience patience patience.
Between the Android phone masses, Iphones and now the Blackberry which looks similar to a Pre- the bar has been set so high. We'll never lead nor win the app race (nor will we ever be really competitive with it). I don't care about that whatsoever.
At this point - I just worry that the Pre.2 (or whatever they call it) - will be nothing more then obsolete before it's even released. The next phone has to be incredibly innovative - far beyond what the others can already do - for HP/Palm to even have a chance.
I totally agree
Relax, hardware is easy, software is hard. Palm clearly cheaped on Pre's battery, slider tracking, memory qtys and the shell too could use a big upgrade. HP wont let hardware be an issue. They'll load it up with great chips, they have volume influence in the components world, something Palm never enjoyed.
Just need HP/Palm to come with a complete o/s this time, so the hardware can grow old gracefully. HP didn't get where they are today by making half baked products and cutting corners on hardware.
Pre owner since day before the release. No announcement in the next 2 weeks and I'm getting the Epic on August 20. If it sucks, I will take it back and use my Pre until the next Web OS device. I'm NOT looking forward to the change in a lot of ways. I am tired of the "Too Many Cards" message and the e-mail experience. I won't be using an Android device for Exchange, so I'm not worried about that aspect. Please HPalm make an announcement of a sweet new phone with Web OS 2.0, dual processor, front facing camera, 5MP or higher camera, larger screen with glass, higher resolution, 4G and MORE APPS!
I was first in line on June 6th 2009 for my Pre. I really love WebOS I had to replace my hardware about 6 times and even right now my 'T' key and the volume up buttons are really stubborn. I cant wait to see what the next generation of WebOS have to offer. For now I'm sticking with it but I hope hardware is improved on the next phone.
I have given up on Palm (so sad).
I am on my 3rd Pre in 12 months. Had current unit a couple of weeks. When it breaks I will move to Android.
The browser refreshing when the card is inactive. This is one of the biggest causes of slow down and desperately needs addressing.
Better hardware???? I got two things to say 'bout the hardware issue... Past = Sprint Pre was a 1.0 device... no one has ever gotten 1.0 devices right on day 1. Present/Future.... HP would not be where they are if they didn't know how to leverage best practices and learning from past mistakes.. Sure they've had their share of flops (the touch screen PC.. Really... Its cool but about as useful as an iPad to an iPhone user tbh). One thing they do and do well is leverage their partner relationship which is why they can make statements like there is no magic in phone hardware (paraphasing here). I believe we will see great things
I'm just hoping they offer more form factors.. Maybe three.. a pixi, pre and executive model..with at least one having a slightly later screen than a pre and a physical keyboard.... Gonna need that to attract BB users
automatic browser refresh?? There's a patch for that!!!!
Homebrew!!!!
Too Many Cards (TMC) error??? There's a patch for that!!! (actually it's a kernel)
Homebrew!!!!
Broken email formatting??? There's a patch for that!!!
Homebrew!!!!
Tell me the names of the patches for the "Too Many Cards" error and e-mail. Will over clocking reduce the Too Many Cards errors? I'm running Preware with several patches.
Had my Pre Plus on O2 UK since end of may and to be honest with you, its been great so far. Heck iam still running it at stock speed, no need for any kernals as of yet. Yes there are things missing that i've grown used to in all of my old nokia's, but would i change back to anything else???? Hell no!!!
I agree with what creepycat is saying but i have plenty of faith in the palm/hp camp to bring something out which was as refreshing and innovative as the original pre and webOS.
Which ever way the topic is used supposed to be, would i recommend a Palm product running webOS over android, blackberry, iphone? Simply put it would be a great big yes!! To think whenever Palm/HP launch webOS 2.0 my Pre Plus will get even better is a great thought.
All i will stress is when Palm do launch any new product, it comes out to the public very very quickly and we dont see the sort of wait we had with both launches of the Pre. No matter how good the phone is, if they take a year for it to come out, people will already be looking for the new iphone release.
Install the uberkernel through preware. I have not had the TMC error since I did.
