Carphone Warehouse and Costco open up Pre-Ordering for the TouchPad (Costco adds Free Cover) 31

by Chris Parsons Fri, 24 Jun 2011 4:00 pm EDT

For those of you in the UK who are waiting to get your hands on an HP TouchPad, we have some great news. Carphone Warehouse has now opened up their pre-order sales portal for the Wifi only version of the device. Pricing is as we expected; a 16GB TouchPad will set you back £399 and the 32GB version rolling in at £479.

On the pre-order page that Carphone Warhouse has set up you'll see highlights of all the specs and information that's needed, but we're guessing you already know the full run down of those by now. If you're in the UK and want to be among the fist to get an HP TouchPad, you can head on over to the Carphone Warehouse right now for the full details and start the ordering process. Oh, and a quick note, we'll advise you to ignore the bit about there being 15,000 apps available on launch. Just chalk that one up as a typo and keep on our merry way.

Back in the US, Costco has also launched their TouchPad Pre-Order page, and they're adding a free cover to sweeten the deal (and you thought they wouldn't carry it...). Pricing is the same as we've seen elsewhere ($499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB - Wifi only) but with that free cover added in it might just make the trip to Costco worth it. Don't forget to checkout the videos that are on the product page as well, glad to see them getting put to use somewhere.

Have you see the TouchPad listed for pre-order anywhere else? Send an email to tips@precentral.net and let us know. The list of retailers is growing every day!

At last! The return of WebOS to the UK high street.

Looks like Carphone Warehouse will have the Pre3 also: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/news/coming-soon/hp-pre3

Thanks for the tip. I think they're bit confused.

"Powered by Android™ 2.3 (Gingerbread) & a dual core 1.2GHz processor"

Nice one CPW.

Wow thanks for that I am now really excited that its finally coming to the UK. I have registered my interest

add currys, dixons and pcworld to that list for the UK. All owned by the same company.

Expand the 'Cover' pic on the Costco website, its just a cheapie regular foam cover. Not worth the trip to CostCo :)

i second this. its not the one that can be used as its own stand, just a foam or maybe microfiber sleeve

That's about $20 worth of freebie and Costco will give you 90 days to take it back as well as unlimited toll free tech support. I'd drive past BestBuy and Walmart to get that, but I'm funny that way.

Good catch!

To start out, a free case is better than no case. Especially if you're paying the same as everyone else in the end.

Sam's Club has a preorder page available too.

I like how the 16GB is 498 while the 32GB is 599.

Just thought that was amusing.

I wonder does that apply to ireland too?

Nice! Now how about some other Pre-ordering? (Preferably the Pre 3 variety, preferably on Sprint?)

;)

Yep, glad to see webos back on sale in the UK. PC World website lists the delivery date as 15/07/11 for the touchpad, hopefully wont have to wait that long, now bring on the Pre 3!!

I have a strange recollection of posting this in the forums 4 days ago.

Too busy playing with your review unit??? :)

I think so. If I would have one, I certainly too would be too busy to write any other article ;)

For those Canadians out there, the TouchPad is on pre-order at Costco in Canada as well. 32Gb version only.

The 15.000 Apps might be more or less feasable. I guess that they also count all Apps that are NOW in the App Catalog (roughly 8 to 10 thousand world wide, who knows it?). Then maybe some 3 to 5 thousand new Apps (I expect that probably HP will have also some of those Apps of their "internal" competition included) and you have it almost.

As much as I read in general all Apps that work on the Pre will also work on the Touchpad. PDK will work just fine and Mojo will either work inside of the Emulator or also expand to the whole screen (if it doesn't need the Keyboard and sensor area and the developer adds the code).

"...like nobody's business" Hah! I love it!

i also love the play of words with SUPER NATURAL.. Supernatural as in NOT just magical..lol.. and super natural as in very intuitive, easy to use.

I'm like I didn't pre-order it right away and was forced to wait, now I can get a free case! :D

I did not see any mention of a free case in the link that I got to. Can someone post a different link. Does the insider know if Costco may have any units on July 1 or is it just the 7-10 days from order, which probably does not mean pre-order. Tx.

It seems to be only on the 32GB version, its in the title of that one and when you click "More Views" to the left you will see it.

Don't forget BestBuy's Price Match Policy. If Costco has it, BB will match!

costco offers a 2 y wrty too... And if you're cdn, you can buy it with your PC card and get an extra yr of wrty free!

FINALLY. AT least some incentive for pre-ordering. A free cover is a start. Give us a free touchstone for pre-ordering then i'll join in.

i dont see why people feel the need to pre order. this isnt exactly going to sell out on its first day.....

"Oh, and a quick note, we'll advise you to ignore the bit about there being 15,000 apps available on launch. Just chalk that one up as a typo "

What?! Are you people serious? Yeah, sure... we should get used now that HP makes "typos", promises that are not kept, etc, whenever suits, to make them look better against competition.

I am sorry, but I am not buying this funny excuse. This is a key-point in their marketing campaign, it is visible right in the TP advert, right beneath the graphics, as a graphic bullet on it's own. Saying it is a "typo" is just a silly joke.

No, my friends, it is but another LIE.

Sorry to say, HP, but you are doing things WRONG. LYING about your product is never a good way to market it, nor it is acceptable.

Sorry to say, Precentral, but trying to make silly excuses for them making silly LIES, you guys have just lost your credibility to me.

You act like being on HP's string.

For webOS' sake, I hope that pack of fanboys will be enough to keep webOS boat afloat, DESPITE any reason - but I know I am hoping against the reason, too.
