Crazy Palm rumor du jour: Executive Shakeup? Update: Rubinstein: "I'm still here" 24

by Dieter Bohn Fri, 23 Apr 2010 6:39 pm EDT

Following news that Michael Abbott was leaving Palm for Twitter, TechCrunch is churning out a couple more executive rumors today: First, that a 14-year Palm veteran and current VP of carrier marketing, Caitlin Spaan, is also leaving the company. Second, that Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein himself could be leaving.

Crazy, we know, especially given that who's getting cited here are simply 'industry sources.' On top of that, our hunch is that going on a whirlwind tour of interviews certainly doesn't seem like the behavior of a CEO on the outs.

We get it: there's a general feeling out there that there's another shoe to drop with Palm in the near future - but do you really think it's going to involve a gigantic combat boot-sized executive shakeup? In the unlikely event Palm sees fit to make statement on this rumor-du-jour, we'll let you know.

Update: @rboatright is in the next room over from us at Palm's developer day and he reports that Rubinstein himself just quipped "I'm still here" to lots of laffs. Move along, everybody.

I just emailed an add on to this story in but Rubenstein has reportly denied this at the palm dev day. @rboatright and @adora have reported "ruby" as saying "i'm still here" with lots of laughs.

He wont be theree if the booard decides otherwise.

I just want to see Palm hold together and persevere...damn-it.

duplicate post: ignore

VP of Carrier Marketing... should've left long time ago.

+1 upboated

Exactly. I see this as nothing but a positive move and does not indicate anything more negative about Palm. Their marketing has been the problem and they are fixing it.

He is still here.

For now (TM)

Carrier marketing? I wonder how involved she was with the terrible launch at Verizon. Maybe she was pushed out.

geez.

Where the hell did Erick Schonfeld at Techchrunch get this news from? Looks like he wants to buy some shares of Palm before a meaty buyout.

Ruby quipping "I'm still here" is just like Elevations Partners saying "we stand behind Palm." Just as Elevation didn't sink any more money into Palm, all Ruby's comment means is that he's still CEO at the moment.

Where there's smoke there is usually fire.

another rumor AGAIN just when Palm is about to launch in France and in Germany , 3 carriers

IMHO there is some paid evil person in the back dropping these rumors. The question is who is paying that person.

But who. Who is so angry with Palm or directly with JR

And about the marketing VP going away from Palm after 14 years
maybe new winds in that field are needed in this new age.

Oh, please. No, it wouldn't be uncommon at all for a CEO to not tell it's customers of their actions?! Like suddenly shutting the doors tomarrow, or not giving billions of bonuses, no that's not CEO and VP conducts at all now is it?

A CEO stating "I'm still here" met with chuckles isn't funny... at least not to me. What am I missing?

I want Palm to succeed. I love webOS. It seems webOS and the software side of the equation is about the only place Palm has gotten it right.

Maybe Ruby, if not replaced, needs to leave the marketing of Palm to someone other than a geek-of-the-year engineer.

Palm is finally going to be on all major US carriers and in most international markets (finally!). Now let's finally see some teeth in Palm's marketing before it really is too late!

Wow! What's going on at Palm?
I'm waiting for something big from this dev day. */fingerscrossed

What's the point of WebOS if Ruby leaves?

If he leaves, I'm not even getting a Pre. Seriously. I believe in his (engineering) vision. That's why I'm enthousiast about webOS. If he's out, so am I.

Not that this is some kind of "I'm gonna ditch my pre" comment, I don't have one, it's not for sale round here.

(Although I wouldn't mind if he concentrated on the engineering side of things and left marketing/finance to some other guy. Basically, if he's back where he was before Ed Collingan left, I'm fine).

Big Ruby there or not Palm will survive. Just wait until they drop the new products I can't wait for all the the people who left to get the Evo run back to spend more money on the new palm goods while I upgrade. Palm pre is the best. Happy Friday to all.

Jon's vision is what makes WebOS so open right now! He's doing great work!

I'm truly worried about the future of Palm. I just don't know what I would do if WebOS wasn't around. Android doesn't do it for me. Come on Palm, hang in there!

TechCrunch is just a troll's site. It's not the first time they write troll articles against Palm.
Don't waste your time with TechCrunch.
