If you're lucky enough to be running the latest version of webOS (1.4.5) and you're an RPG buff, you'll have a pleasant surprise awaiting you in the App Catalog: the highly-anticipated, fully 3D RPG indie title Crusade of Destiny is now available for download and is selling for a cool $4.99. While the rest of us shmucks in the United States are still running webOS 1.4.1 and manically tapping the refresh button in the updates app, give us your first impressions of the game, won't you?

I am so sick of this waiting...I understand the need to make new Pre and Pixi owners overseas gush with new software and games, but the delay on the update here in the states is ridiculous. What our carriers are waiting for, I don't know, but I want in on these games already.
we didn't have update delays here in the states until Verizon came along.. Now we also deal with AT&T and the delay is even longer... At least Sprint would review updates in a quick timely fasion.. Sprint Pre users used to get our updates first.
now we are waiting on the 2 slow companies that are probally too busy reviewing the Android 2.2 froyo that's been constantly tinkered with to handle the skins other manufacturers put on top of the Android OS because androids stock UI sucks.
so I wouldn't doubt if Verizon and AT&T put WebOS in a corner while they approve froyo.

I tried android and was not impressed. Palm is where it is at. I guess they just need to make it flashy like android and the iphone.
Verizon I could see they have a bunch of android phones that need to be updated. AT&T though only has two android phones that i know of that flip crap and there version of the Samsung Galaxy S
Sprint can approve the update whenever they want. It has nothing to do with Verizon or AT&T. I'm not happy about it either, but come on. That's like blaming Exxon for the BP spill.
I had the Pre since day one,but the phone has no good hardware at all,and plastice case, plus no good update from Palm...And keep giving me a message saying too many card when
all my apps close...I give up on the update for 1.4.5,and I
jumped the ship to Android HTC EVO,last week said they`ll release the 2.2 update on Aug.03 but they did released it on
Aug.02 which one day earlier...I love WEBOS it`s the best,but HPALM need to get phones with better hardware and good features,not just the Multi-tasking only.
seriously... Not great for palm to get loaylists angry as they are already itching for new hardware. I will wait, but I know many whom are not so atient and understandably so. Palm doesn't want the fragmentation isues of android where people wait forever for updates...
I am that itchy person..if it wasn't for sprint messing with my premier status I would be on android user. Just the fact that they coulda held back and did something greater with the pixie budget instead of building a cheaper version of pre but make an equal. I could see doing this if they had a lot of top line phones out but that's not and is not the case. I have only seen 2 people with the pixie since its launch and that's bad cause I'm a barber so I pretty much see alot of phone interaction and what's considered the hot phone in the shop. And let me say now that doesn't make market analyst but I can tell you the android phone are the thing to have like the sidekick was a few years ago. Iphone is still the most used phone out of the customer but android based phone are running a close 2nd. While the pre users that come in, I'd say half have switch to evo. I think that now with sprint premier if your a phone supplier you can't go a year without bring something new and great that will beatthe latest phone specs that came out 3 months ago. Also I think other phone companies will start doin (if they haven't already) allowing you to do upgrades every year to keep you in that 2 year contract ratio, I must admit its smart biz.
Palm needs to lean on the providers heavy and get this update distributed. It has been weeks since the rest of the world received the 1.4.5 update. If the wait for 1.4.5 is this bad, how long are we going to have to wait for 2.0 after it has been distributed?
It is laughable that Palm even has the nerve to talk about webOS 2.0 when a majority of Palm users don't even have the current version of webOS available to them. Yes, I do blame Palm and will continue to until they find out what the hold up is and let their consumer base know what is going on.
I agree, wasn't the 2.0 release supposed to be sometime this fall? It's august already, if they make us wait for 1.4.5 this long, how long are we going to wait for 2.0? Wait, let me guess, the rest of the world get's it on time, and we get it next year in the summer at some point.
I wonder if the game is available outside USA. Otherwise no one can download. That would be irony, only 1.4.5 can download and only people outside USA have 1.4.5 ;)

We are now feeling what the International users felt when we received 3D gaming and they had to wait. We're all even now and can we receive the update already. Haha
I have a EVO and a PRE like them both but now that 4g works in my area its not even close as far as speed goes for videos and downloads plus full flash. All these new games are already on android so Im not missing anything.OFFICIAL UPDATES 2 since June fourth.Im guessing Palm had to fix the problem with older games not working before Sprint or the other guys would approve the update of 1.45 Im guessing the USA will get 1.45.1 who knows how long this will take with Sprint and Verizon rolling out Froyo this week.

On the note of 1.4.5 US, my guess is that Sprint/Verizon are pressuring Palm/HP to put a lockodown on webOS so that stuff like freeTether and Pixi-WiFi (though VERY cool IMO) aren't so easily achievable. Bricked phones and violated contracts are not good for business, from each of the perspectives of the user, software and device manufacturer, and carrier. And it would make sense to keep such dealings on the DL so that we with our 'fugative' devices don't bail prematurely when we find out that we won't be able to take so much for granted anymore.
Silence is the better policy for keeping secrets than lies, right?
I hope I'm wrong, though, and that we're all just waiting for QA to give the 'go ahead.'

Stop wining, USA. Here in Norway, we have 1.4.5 but no access to paid apps. I think I can honestly say that the total number of Pre owners here are around 30 due to this inexplicable limitation. My friends with iPhones, heck -my daughter even - are buying paid apps left right and center.
is it easy to find a good quality Viking helmet in Norway? I want one!
All our Viking helmets are made out of plastic now - in China and sold wherever there are people willing to buy, i.e. anywhere but here. I will, however, personally get a real one made for you here and ship it over, if you can get us paid apps for the Pre in return.

This waiting for the latest update and new hardware is really starting to get ridiculous. We haven't even seen any rumors leaked by Precentral LOL.

There's only a handful of new PDK apps that have been released. Literally, a handful. We're not missing out on much with the delay as it stands. Relax.

Agreed...we're left to just wonder what the reason for the delay is while H/Palm and the carriers stay silent.
I'd like to see something like this that'd be multiplayer. Should be feasible, but I'd guess the latency would mean you'd need pretty dumbed-down game play.

It sounds to me that their waiting for the economic rebound to come so that people will be able to buy the phones that they are going to come out with.

To be a bit more specific with the title .. (if you are running 1.4.5 in an "official" country). We "un-officals" are still left out in the cold, even with 1.4.5.
Define "official" vs. "unofficial." I'm running 1.4.5 on a Sprint Pre via a dev WebOS doctor, which could be said to be an "unofficial" channel since the update hasn't been released properly, and while I haven't downloaded Crusade, it does appear in my app catalog, as do several other 1.4.5-only PDK apps, some of which I have downloaded and can run without issue.
I assume what you're referring to is countries that have access to paid apps vs. those that don't?

Downloaded it yesterday evening (O2 Germany) and played it for two hours. Very nice hack-and-slay game. Runs smoothly and stable on my Pre (No plus). I'm now at level 11, slayed lots of beetles, rats, bears and wasps with my wooden sword (and later with a cool looking energy spell), rescued the sister of a boy in the starting town from the goblins cave and maxed out my equipment (The best weapons and armor sold in the starter town, which is pretty low level, other towns will have better (and much more expensive) equipment). Looks like it's possible to level beyond 70 so I think I have lots of fun still before me. Really, nice game. Haven't played any other game for so long.
Downloaded tonight in Canada... Just started game, runs smoothly, no issues starting up game. Looks to be interesting, just working through the first few side missions. Lots of levels to go through, places to explore, etc.
You poor poor americans.... Hopefully you'll get the update sooner than later..

Perhaps the delay is due to the recent takeover of Palm by HP? The reorganization of two companies, personnel movement, etc. I am a loyal Palm customer and am constantly hitting "Refresh" on my Updates app hoping it will say, "Your patience has been rewarded. Version 1.4.5 is finally here!"
This sucks for American users. We've had 1.4.5 for a couple of weeks now in the UK, why the delay there? As for the game, downloaded it as soon as it was out and it's great, very smooth on the Pre Plus. Hope you guys are able to get hold of it soon.
Maybe I am crazy and just unexperienced in developing and playing paid 3d games as I have done neither as I haven't had time. BUT...most landscape games play with the phone facing the other direction...correct? I know the GameLoft demos all played on my Sprint Pre with the speaker part of the phone in my left hand and the keybaord part in my right.
Am I completely off base, or does it depend on hwo the developer wants it?
It's developer's choice. This game has the option to flip the screen so it's the same layout as the Gameloft games.
