Did HP's Todd Bradley just confirm the 'PalmPad' name? Still set for early 2011 54
HP has already let loose the word that they'd be releasing a webOS-based tablet in 2011, but in todays' Analyst Meeting, HP EVP Todd Bradley was the first HP employee to call it the PalmPad, a trademark HP filed for in July:
We've already announced the expansion of our future product portfolio well beyond smartphones. We'll have a webOS-powered PalmPad that will be set for release early in 2011.
While it's always possible that Bradley is simply a very avid PreCentral reader and so knows that PalmPad is one of the leading rumored names for the webOS tablet, we're thinking that until further notice, 'PalmPad' is the leading contender for what HP will be calling the webOS Slate/Tablet.

I like the name
I like PalmTab better, kind of flows better, maybe we can use both. a 10 inch one called palmpad and 7 inch one called palmTab
Sad that this qualifies as "news".
It qualified as news on engadget headlines podcast too.
Yes he did. I heard him say it. I hope Rubenstein brings some news today.
Who cares about tablets and printers. Where's the freaking phone?
Yeah. Where's the phone?
I like it too, but how about insight tablet. Hmm...
Hmm, well i'm at least glad he used 'future product portfolio' and 'smartphones' in the same sentence.
He said PalmPad for sure. His delivery overall was so deliberate I think we can take this as good evidence that the product will indeed be the "PalmPad."
More important is, unlike Hurd, he made it seem like webOS was going to drive a significant new source of revenue for HP... Doubling down on webOS... apparently they meant it.
whoa, groundbreaking
I don't have a problem with the name "PalmPad." It kind of helps Palm, in the sense that customers will see the brand more, which was a problem with the release of the Palm Pre and Pixi. There was no brand awareness.
What if he meant "a Palm pad", not "a PalmPad" or "THE PalmPad"? dun dun dun...
unless that dang thing can make phone calls, i don't care!
wow now there's an idea!!!
Doh! Thats what I see heh.
The name makes perfect sense, like PalmPrinter. It's an obvious extension of HP's Palmtop brand.

it doesn't matter the name am getting it haha
If that IS in fact the name, at least they are keeping the name Palm on it and not HP. Id hate to see the Palm name wiped out.
Can one access apps without a Palm profile linked to a phone account?
IOW, will the Palm app store work if someone has a Palm device, but no carrier contract?
iOS does; Android for the most part doesn't. i was wondering if you can just have a Palm Profile and access apps.
does anyone know, or is that yet to be determined?
Ok I need some advice, my dad's pres touchscreen has COMPLETELY stopped functioning recently. I have tried everything short of doctoring it, hard resets, soft resets, battery pulls etm.
everything else works including slider, keys volume keys. The gesture area is also malfunctioning. He said he didnt drop it or anything, it way just in his pocket during work. He has an upgrade (sprint premier) and needs to get a new phone.
He was excited about webos when it came out, but ultimately it left a sour taste in his mouth, and wants to try out android. Is there anything I can to to fix it? Thanks.
Sounds like it needs the Doctor.
Doctor couldnt fix it. now its trapped in the select language thing u get when the phone restarts. Looks like my dads trip with webos os over, unless sprint will give him a new replacement for free.......
For the record, I hate the "Pad" moniker. They still have the "Pilot" name in their library, perhaps they can do something with that.
I agree. Having the "pad" means it's a "me too" product.
+1
all this talk about Webos tablets and new palm phones is making RANDY!! Who wants to shag!!

Quintuple Post!!!
I guess we know what happens when you mix your Ritalin with dad's Viagra!
calm down buddy
Wow, five times and it came out incoherent in each one.
Why pad? Do palm users have to put up with those jokes too??
how is it that we can get the name of the 2011 tablet but can't get the name of the upcoming smartphone?? What's up wit dat?
Probably because we won't see a phone before we see the tablet.
I guess all that hoopla about how "pad" had strange connotations for people was a tempest in a teapot.
CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT JUST GET IT OUT ! :)
oh man... I hate myself for even thinking this buuuut... that's what she said...
On a serious note i have my concerns about functionality... ie WebOS is great but a Windows 7 Tablet/Slate might be more functional accross platforms to other users in the work place ? ....not sure if there is a reasonable comparrasion between the PalmPad and the Slate ? Are they going to achieve the same thing ? What would work best with my Pre ?
Will these devices be crossing the same path for users?
ie I'm going to upgrade my Windows netbook to PalmPad or Slate what sounds like the correct way to go....i know its early days but input whould be appreciated....
wait, lemme get this straight, you're going to 'upgrade' to something with less horsepower, less hardware & less support? I honestly can't think of a single situation in which a slate/pad would be anything but a hindrance to productivity. About the only thing it'll produce for you is a headache. Slates/pads really aren't designed centric to functionality, they're basically just grown-up toys. Not to mention we haven't even heard anything on palmpad hardware or even seen a slate in the wild (i'm not counting engadget).
IMO if you really want to keep productivity but still want the tablet functionality just go with one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-T91MT-PU17-BK-8-9-Inch-Netbook-Computer/dp/B0...
it's cheap, very lightweight (but with a solid & sturdy build), has multitouch (resistive no less, so you can draw/write on it effectively), Windows 7, and you don't have to sacrifice keyboard, vga, sd slots, usb ports etc. I'm on one right now & I'm more satisfied with it than any other computer I've owned. A great compliment to the pre as well (tethering is a dream!)
Dear HP,
SCREW THE TABLET. Bring me a *NEW PHUCKING PHONE*.
I had a Fujitsu tablet 4 or 5 years ago that was bad ass WITH USB PORTS AND A BUILT IN OPTICAL DRIVE. If I wanted to do long typing, I had a dock with a keyboard.
Im sorry guys but Im just sick and tired of everybody and their momma (even Onkyo, yes ONKYO!) suddenly coming out with tablets. They dont serve any purpose other than sitting on your ass with a finger in your nose whilst surfing the net.
Oh, if I find out any of my crafty, smart fellow precentral members buys a Bose Videowave, Im going to hurt you, badly.
/rant
Really, though Im sorry for that. I had to get it out. I just want a new fricking phone not *another* tablet.
Oh yea, along with a $5.4k "Surround Sound" Bose tv, a WebOS printer sounds like the dumbest thing I have ever heard. All Ive ever wanted out of a printer and everybody else I know and work with (Navy, we use ALOT of paper) is the ability to take a full ream of paper and tell me when the ink is running low.
Totally agree.
and a printer that doesn't give cryptic errors.
PC Load Letter? What the hell does that even mean?
yo what the hell. So I've been making fun of these smuggy ipad users now palm using the "pad" moniker as well?
I don't get it. Who is on the marketing team that missed this obvious metoo-ism?
Todd Bradley picture caption: "I'ma totally pimp this HP shit.........,bitch!"
That won't be the end name. Product names are usually up in the air until the very last minute; plus it's to similar to the iPad name. The general public will get confused.
He's ugly. And he has two chins. Is that a toupe?
damn, that was downright mean!
Palm Pad is a horrible name.
I can hear the iPad owners now, you couldn't get an iPad so you got a PeePee ooops I mean Palm Pad.
Let HP take their time and do it right. I hope they release it after the Blackberry slab and take the wind out of their hype and sales.
The Blackberry Torch is just a copy of the Palm Pre and they know it. They need to change their name from Research In Motion to Research and Copy.
HP don't mess this up, we're counting on you.
