doubleTwist unveils Amazon MP3 integration 20

While doubleTwist has always been great for syncing your Pre with iTunes whether or not Apple was unhappy enough to break Media Sync, it still leveraged your music purchasing through iTunes. While you could still download music from Amazon MP3 from your browser and load it into iTunes through Amazon’s own desktop software, it wasn’t exactly the most elegant solution. doubleTwist has decided to make that easier and has integrated the Amazon MP3 Store into their own sync software.

As with Amazon MP3 on the Pre, doubleTwist now has access to over five million songs in Amazon’s catalog, available for purchase as both complete albums and individual tracks. Thankfully, like doubleTwist’s syncing software, they’ve also made the Amazon MP3 Store dead easy to use. This implementation is actually quite a bit easier than trying to utilize the Amazon MP3 Store via their browser-based interface, which was quite clearly designed for the purchase of physical media that built Amazon into the retail powerhouse it is today.

With Amazon MP3 available on both your Pre and now easily on your computer via doubleTwist we now have one fewer reason to rely on iTunes for our music synchronization needs.

Palm should use this as their main media client.

Wow, they did a great job, this is really an iTunes replacement now for music. Good work!

I think they just need to make laying out your music easier. Its like a huge list atm.

Make that easier and they are gold.

doubleTwist the perfect iTunes like software for the Pre ! so why bother fighting with Apple for iTunes Sync. when you have that app for free ? Why don't Palm advertise that app. ?

doubleTwist is a great solution for the Amazon music store. I had already quit using iTunes for anything (even my iTouch) after their decision to lock out the Pre. Now, I can buy online music again!

Is anyone here using double twist on a mac? I have used it on mine and it is extremely slow. I love the idea of this over itunes but for it is not working correctly.

I'm using doubletwist on my Mac (2.4 GHz MBP) and it works just fine. Sometimes I see files I don't see with iTunes, but I haven't investigated. All in all I'm happy with the performance -- it doesn't seem slow to me.

So it sounds as if this still syncs to the iTunes database for your local music library?

Also, a big downside that I learned recently. DoubleTwist was NOT able to get my album art to my Pre. And it sounded as if immediate updates are not going to solve that issue. That's a deal breaker for me. And really, I have a hard time understanding the issue, especially considering my album art is embedded in the mp3 file, not iTunes album art directories.

After I synced with DoubleTwist the album art is on my Pre. It looks very cool. My album art is also embedded into the mp3 files. I did originally use iTunes to embed the pictures into the mp3 files. I have removed iTunes and it is not on my PC anymore.

Since it won't sync playlists, I think it is a pain to use.

I could not get it to sync playlists either. So on 08/23/09 I sent support@doubletwist.com the following e-mail:
I have a palm pre with ver 1.1 palm software, I have iTunes with ver 8.1.0.52 software, I have doubleTwist with ver 2.2.0.787 software. I see all iTunes playlists on doubleTwist. I select playlists from doubleTwist and sync only a few playlists to the palm pre. The playlists do not show up on my palm pre. All of the songs copy over to the palm pre but no playlists. Any suggestions?

I received the following reply:
This is a known bug which will disappear next month when we release our own persistent library, exclusive from iTunes. In our new library you'll be able to create, edit and transfer playlists to your pre. Thanks, and let me know if there is any other way I can help you out.

So it looks like a fix is in the works for playlists independent of iTunes.

This is great news and I will definitely be checking it out. The only thing that kept me using iTunes was it's ease and the fact that some of my music (sadly) will still only play on apple software (and I'm to cheap to go pay for the updates..atleast for now). Thankfully, I did stop buying most of my music from Apple years ago and switched to Amazon. Looking forward to it. Why Amazon never did this themselves is beyond me, but hopefully someone will market it.

This could be huge.

Doubletwist doesn't support Mac OSX 10.4. Screw those jerks; I'm not upgrading my OS just for this. Go ITunes sync!

I am guessing you are on a non-Intel Mac? If not, get Snow Leopard: it's only $30 (you don't actually have to have Leopard to upgrade). Either way, Go ITunes sync!

I have double twist but I can get it show the music store. what am I doing wrong?

What does everyone think of jukebox media player

thank you double twist!!! and bye bye to itunes!!!!

Doubletwist doesn't seem to like my setup. I run vista 32 bit and when i plug my Pre in to sync, it just shuts Doubletwist down. when I turn it back on it doesn't even see the Pre. Now they say it is a known issue and they're working on it. which is fine, but I just wanted to forewarn anyone with a similar set up as mine about this potential road block. It did work for me when I first installed dT an d plugged the Pre in the first time. I saw the Pre for all of 45 seconds, I went to delete a few songs off my Pre to make room for new ones when it crashed and the rest is history.

doesn't let you make or sync playlists with pre. Can't use it till they do that sucks since i hate itunes
