European Palm Pre Plus Lands at FCC 19
Scaredy pings us to let us know that the O8F-CASY has landed at the FCC. That's the Palm101UEU to you. Ok, actually we are thinking that it's the European / GSM Palm Pre Plus. ToniCipriani chimes in on the forums to say that the photo date for lifting photo confidentiality (a fairly reliable sign of release date in the past) is September 11th, 2010.
Palm had previously submitted a plan jane North American Palm Pre that we saw back in November, the P100UNA - which is the non-plus, GSM, North American Palm Pre which we were hoping to see in May. What we'd actually like is for the standard Palm Pre to get end-of-lifed and replaced by the GSM Pre Plus. Scaredy had caught the North American Palm Pre Plus, the P101UNA at a German certification site before, so hope springs eternal we'll have real GSM Palm Pre Plus phones in the US and around the world.

So us Europeans have to wait for Sept for the Pre Plus? That's a bit dumb to be honest. Surely Palm should have a brand new handset out by then. What's the point of releasing a 15 month old phone (plus some memory), when they should be throwing a bigger processor, min 32GB of storage and higher resolutions into a phone?
Kind of sick of having to wait so long for everything over here. Still no paid apps...... I know they're coming, but it's been forever. Now we have to wait for the Pre Plus, even though no carrier over here has an exclusive on it.
Some day american companies will realise that there are far more people outside the US than in it, and stop being outsold by Nokia.
I agree with you 110% shane (I am American). Not sure why companies do this but you would think that selling to everyone at once would make them more money quicker.
Guys, guys, guys, I bet this is palm pre -2, makes sense to be released in September in Europe, 3-4 months after US release.
...this is not just an "American" company practice! Most companies in Japan release their products to it's people first. Same with Europe and so forth. Everyone outside of the U.S. should be happy that Palm included them even w/ it's scarce financial resources. Waiting sucks, I agree, but hey...thats how things in life works - and that isn't bound to the country you're from!

Palm must sell Plus versions in more european countries and worldwide! I want a Pre Plus but I can't buy one (or even a normal Pre) in my country! What are they waiting for??? September 2010??? Are they kidding???
...what country are you from?
The Pre Plus should be the standard version by now. I love my Pre but 8 gb is not enough. Come on Palm impress us all, start selling the Pre Plus worldwide and fill the app store with decent, useful apps!
I concur Palm Pre should be end of lifed replaced by Plus. Palm better have a new handset for June with iPhoneOS rumored to have webOS like functionality Palm better deliver right now.
Palm has not executed well at all we can blame it on partners (sprint and Verizon) but I think exclusivity deals without partner commitment to advertise heavily have hurt Palm a lot. This is a shortfall of management.
I really love webOS but unless people know about it it won't succeed.
I agree. I've read about the new iPhone OS having true multitasking and WinMo7 having "synergy" - 2 things that set webOS apart from the rest...TODAY! I believe Palm already realizes this and will shed light on it's new webOS device @ CTIA the end of this month to build up anticipation. Be excited people =)
Palm does not have the financial resources to give everyone what they want RIGHT AWAY...so please people tone down on the complaining! If it had deep pockets like Google and Apple I'm sure the Pre/Pixi (+'s) would be sold worldwide, everyone would have had paid apps, we'd have @ least 5 'different' webOS phones of various form factors, and so forth...but they don't have the money to roll all that out at once SOOOO they're being as efficient as possible.
Why does Palm cater to the U.S first? Well, it's an American company. There are many entities in Japan, Canada, Europe, etc...that cater to their respectable countries 1st. It's the logical thing to do, right?
I remember when Playstation 2 was unveiled way back when and how excited I was. Learning that I'd have to wait more than 3 months after it's release in Japan kinda bummed me out...but I never went so far as to complain and bicker about it not being fare. Why? It's a Japanese product so they should get first dibbs. As long as I knew that it was coming to the States...i was happy!
If you all want the Pre/Pixi (+'s) and paid apps and more webOS devices in the near future...does it really make sense to put down the company that is bringing us these amazing products? A company that has been supporting us even after all the crap reviews from investors. A company that has given us more attention than what Google or Apple has given to their platforms. A bulldog squaring off w/ a Rottweiler, Doberman, and Pit Bull.
What does complaining do? It takes away money from Palm by:
"...discouraging people to try webOS, even if it is the most advanced yet easy to use mobile operating systems on the market today."
Whether we get what we want today or in a couple weeks or a few months...Palm will get it to us all. Like I've said many times before - if you think you can find someone w/ better support then by all means, go for it.
...just do it w/o complaining about something you didn't like because you'd be ruining it for the next person!
IMHO
k, First thing, The Palm Pre+ is the PRE 2, These phones you guys keep talking about with bigger screens and more everything, will not be called the a (PRE) I hope it will be called the...................

Palm can't afford to rely on the American market alone. Releasing the Pre Plus in September in Europe and the UK will only have the same non-effect as the Pre coming out in October last year.
No paid apps outside the US, 90% of the free apps are of no use for someone wanting to travel, catch up with news and sport or listen to radio stations outside of the US. When paid apps do come they need to be very very good and i mean they have to be just as good as the iphone apps or the release of the Pre Plus will be just as much of a flop as the Pre.
In the UK app store i would like to see a London Tube app, Sky News app, UK Sports app and train travel app. Developers aren't that bothered about WebOS, 7 that i have been in touch with, 2 aren't yet sure what platform they want to work on next and 5 are not going to write for WebOS, they are looking at the iPad and the new iPhone OS.
Palm need to move very very quick. My patience are geting very very thin with the app store, if i had to i will get an iphone or an Android.
FWIW I've had an iPhone (now 3GS) since they launched in the UK, absolutely loved it ... however since I've been looking into webOS I am completely sold hook line and sinker, BUT, there's no way I'll buy a Pre (currently on o2) when there's a Pre Plus available elsewhere, and there's definitely no way I'd buy a Pre Plus in September, that's just madness.
I REALLY want to get behind Palm on webOS and have a go at the development side of things, but for that to happen I need new, faster hardware. Looking at the videos of the Pre Plus in action there's too much of a noticeable delay, coming from a 3GS that would be completely intolerable.
New hardware in europe and I'll be entering my credit card details faster than you can blink!
Nobody needs new hardware!
Best for Palm would be to further develop webOS with the existing hardware!!
Don't you guys see that the existing hardware hass everything it needs?
You can't really use 4G in a widely covered area anywhere near 2-3 years into the future. So there is abolutely no need for new hardware. Just clock the Pre-CPU up, maybe release a slightly tweaked stock-battery and tune webOS, PDK, SDK. That's sufficient for at least until CES 2011, maybe until 2012 - depending on what the competition brings.
But I don't think there will be much newness this year from competition, especially not related to new hardware. We will see...
It's true that palm's current hardware is very good and tightly integrated with the webOS experience but by september OLED screens will be outdoing even the pre's high contrast screen on all phones.
Not to mention snapdragon and tegra2 will be ushering a new level of speed and 3d games on WP7S/Zune HD/Iphone and unless the software can be improved to really speed the pre up it will be left behind.

Palm cannot hope to compete in these markets when none of its competitors have these 'practises' (ie apple, microsoft and google). If palm is not even selling its products to areas where there is overwhelming demand(and even if it does it gets nowhere without droid level advertising)until after they are outdated by the competition it is unsurprising its creating a bad name for itself and doing little to sell what is on the whole a far superior peice of software to its competitors.
I am the only one that took out the 2 yr contract with O2. Won't be able to upgrade til Oct 2011.
WITH ALL THE HARDWARE ON THE UPCOMING AND COMPETITORS THAT ARE THERE, STILL DOESN'T GIVES U THE NEW EXPERIENCE THAT WEBOS GIVE U. NO ANDROIDS, PHONES NO IPHONES, NOT EVEN BLACKBERRY HAS THE PLATFORM ABILITIES FOR TRUE MULTITASKING PLUS ITS SIMPLICITY. COMPARE THAT!!!!!!
