Speak for yourself, but I’d love to have a Palm Whosit, even if we have to wait for February. Regardless, there’s a lot in there to make us smile, particularly the lines that essentially say, “We hear you!” There’s no confirmation of anything here, not really even much of a hint, just some poeming of the very things we’ve been discussing here.

isn't it a Hewlett Packard room? Not positive as i haven't followed it closely. But considering the Huge percentage of their business dedicated to computers, printers, and enterprise solutions and the fact that I just saw a slew of new HP laptops one could think that the room is for their core products.
Naturally, what comes after "coming months" is "coming weeks".

I agree with PreDogs. This $hit is getting OLD! I have never shown this much loyalty to a company before and this is how they treat me. Stuck with an ancient hardware phone and being strung along by saying "in the coming months." Now come February I will hear an announcement of a road map and the promise of a few devices, probably with already outdated hardware, that will be released "soon" or "before year end!" I am tired of being played and I am not purchasing any more apps from the Palm app catalog. What's the point? I am waiting for the webOS doppelganger in the new BB Playbook and will also be purchasing a BB phone. Seriously HP, what is your problem?

It was a general comment post. I am not bashing another member. I am not saying that EVERYONE should do as I say. I am simply stating my opinion on the matter and my agreement with the previous post. When intelligent individuals read other posts, they usually tend to agree, disagree or disregard said post. Notice the word "intelligent". I believe that you may be lacking that quality and bashing people is your way of crying out for attention. Again, this is just my opinion in the matter and from now on I will choose to DISREGARD your immature comments.
With that being said, I love webOS. I love everything about it. What I find disturbing, and I am sure I am not the only one here that thinks so, is that I would like to have an idea of where my future stands with webOS without all the delays and unfulfilled promises. It can get pretty frustrating when you look forward to something and then it doesn't come. February 9th is sure to be a great and exciting day, but will it be the day I look forward to holding a new device? Will I get webOS 2.x for my Pre minus to hold me over till the next device? Questions that have yet to be answered. Is it too much to ask for just a few answers?
But they ARE releasing devices! And when they do, they're going to be awesome! And they won't stop making new ones! To me, they remind me a lot of Apple. They tease their customers, show them NOTHING, then have their own special event to where they show us what they've been working on while we were all doubting them. Palm is going to release devices that REVOLUTIONIZES the way we think about all tablets and what they should be like. To simply not wait would be a shame.
Totally agree. MaleoutKast, Go read the stupid poem. Don't you get it. They are releasing a new device. It may even bee a few more months from now, but either go away or stop complaining and wait. If you love webOS, then wait until a new phone comes out or go buy one in the meantime and come back.
Man I'm sick and tired of hearing everyone whine about their phone. Palm a company about 1/100th of the size of Apple has produced 2-5 (depending on how you count the pluses 2's) new devices in the past Year and a half (since Initial Pre launch in june 2009). That is pretty amazing. No, they haven't been great hardware, but mainly they just haven't been available to all. That is why they are now an HP company and they are taking their time to convince carriers that they are relevant so that you can have their phones.
Just stop whining about it. Move on if it is that big of a deal.
It is clear now that there are new phones/tablets/printers/toasters coming. Rubi has said it, Bradley has said it, and the poem says it. If you STILL don't believe it and can't wait, then go somewhere else.

But I have heard that before. I have heard just wait for our next announcement, just wait for flash to come out, just wait for mojo messaging service. And i have waited...and waited... and waited. Pardon my language but FUCKING give me SOMETHING. Anything for that matter. Just one new thing for sprint customers over the past 1.5 years that doesn't come from our beloved homebrew community. Don't get me wrong I love webos. No, I LOVE webos but we are being left in the dust. I have been that guy who posts "Thanks for nothing. See ya later." to the people who make posts saying they are fed up. But there is a certain point where I feel like I'm just being shit on by a company that doesn't even care. When Jon rubenstien said just be patient a few weeks ago in that interview I wanted to say back "Be patient while I wind up to punch you in the face". The worst part is I know I will wait. I will give them another chance and watch what comes on the 9th. But, if it is not the god phone of the century that produces gold then I will again, just as I have for the past 18 months, be extremely disappointed in the company I have spent so much time and effort on.

I'm sorry but how do they remind you of Apple? I'm not an Apple fan boy, but When Apple releases something at least it's ahead of its time so it takes the competition time to catch up to them. Have you seen the specs on the pre2? The hardware was outdated before they even released it.

aint that juice tasty? mmmm... so i bought an android phone on ebay recently for cheap (samsung moment for 90 bucks, not bad if i say so myself) as a spare and just to have it so i know how it works. i just cant get myself to make it my primary. webos is really a nicer os to use. i would say the touchstone is the biggest reason im staying with the phone to b honest, its such an awesome thing to have in the car... its nice that i can talk smack on android now without being too bias :)

Amen, stop the whine, this is a webOS ENTHUSIAST site, not a webOS complain and moan site. I for one and excited to see and don't mind waiting. If you want lots of options all the time, go android. I want a community and I want to be a phanboi. It's my thing, some people follow a specific sports team, even when it sucks, I follow palm. Sometimes that is more fun than others, but please, give it a rest already!
Maybe we need to make a forum called "For whiners" that whiners can go and vent in and keep them from trolling all the other positive threads.

I'm excited. I like the idea of releasing separately from CES... I think webOS would get overlooked due to everyone reporting on the next Android-of-the-week. This will give them a chance to let the CES over-exaggeration to calm and then hit us all with a REAL OS/phone...

I'm still excited and that's even after playing with a Droidx today that one of my clients bought and couldn't figure out how to use. Not too confusing, but not worth all the Hoopla that Droid seems to get on a regular basis.
The big screen was nice, but the OS...whatever it was running didn't work for me.
I think everyone is missing the mark completely. When Palm says "Think Big" they mean think 50" wide-screen big. Looking forward to a brighter future, bigger screen, and whatever you bring.

This event is not just a one month delay from CES. It's a three or four month delay since the last thing you promised - Flash! I'd feel much better about this situation if webOS 2.0 were released! Right now I feel like I'm being jerked around.

Its about a year delay on Flash. The coding to bring video was supposed to go hand-in-hand with Flash capability. I know Adobe is probably the biggest factor, but the radio silence from Palm is a mark against them and diminishes the value of any insight they actually do release going forward.
I personally dont place a whole lot of value on Flash, its becoming irrelevant. But ignoring our queries...we can return the favor.

A year ago they promised flash in the 1st half of 2010, so its been a LONG time (well, long time since their FIRST promise).

webOS and HP/Palm are actually getting some love from the tech world. Gizmodo, Engadget and BGR all sound stoked about making it to the announcement. Hell, a webOS tablet was actually mentioned in a CNNMoney article about possible iPad competitors. Can't remember the last time Palm was mentioned in a positive light. I'm excited, just hope that the phones are available soon after. Like many others, I'll have an upgrade available for Sprint this month, and would hate to have to hang on to it for 6 more months.

I'm excited for new products but I am also kind of sad to give up my Sprint Palm Pre Plus (even though I do want new hardware). It was fun converting a regular Pre into a Plus. I've enjoyed going through all the different patches to customize the OS to my liking. I keep discovering new tricks on the forums like improving GPS performance. I'm looking forward to the release of freetether. As soon as I get some money together, I really need to donate to webOS Internals for making webOS an even better platform.
Maybe they should go into publishing & writing instead of Technology. Seems like a better fit after reading this poem, they'r busy writing, not developing.

Quite frankly I'm pretty excited. It's been awhile, but webOS is far from dead. Something tells me we will all be very pleased with the announcements. Thanks HP/Palm! I was really hoping for an announcement on Thursday, but I guess I can wait a month. After all, I've been waiting for a year and a half over here on Sprint.
I'm hoping for some kind of half-assed announcement this week though. A great one would ge that webOS 2.0 is coming by the time the Pre 2 is released on VZW. Us on Sprint have been waiting patiently, and had to miss out on the Plus models.
If nothing does happen until the Feb announcements, I won't cry though... I'll just be here... Patiently waiting as I have been...
Unless Palm releases a full line of dual core processor phones they will already be behind like they already are. Promising Flash one year ago is just an example of developers not jumping on board with WebOs. They never will as it's already considered a dead Os. Yes, my user name is screwpalm..only because they have screwed us all since 2009. Who knows, maybe they do have a full line up of dual core kick ass phones but I won't hold my breath.
i'm willing to bet money that they are. you really think hp went through all the trouble to buy palm, and then not deliver something that can compete with the current and future market?
I took the plunge and got an Epic, but I still love webOS, and I hope they bring in the goods with that February event. I just want killer hardware to go with the awesome operating system. Hopefully the next phone I get is powered by webOS once more, we'll see. It's just too bad it's taken so long because even this announcement is just another one of those "great news are coming sometime later" announcements.

ummm have u read anything about duel-core mobile phone processors? they are actually just as, or more efficient than the current 1 ghz single cores with much more speed.

With approx 1.5% market share and falling, it really is a life or death matter for WebOS.
If it wasn't for the committed communities here and over on WebOS Internals, it may be an almost insignificant market share number...

There was a poster (JerseyDevil) in the forums back in December who gave some hints on what to expect in the first 6 months of 2011, including the smallest smartphone, I believe. Some people blew him off as a fake. Lets see how accurate he was.
Dual core, the ability to do my taxes, serve as my razor, a cupholder, give me eternal life, oh & the phone should also be able to make calls lmao.
And with a poem...they keep me roped in for a little while longer. It's always something. I feel the pain of all the naysayers, but even as the cracks on both sides of my sprint pre are getting dangerously close to spreading through my screen, I am holding out hope that a new webOS device will come to my carrier soon and save me. I'd bet many of the guys who declared months ago, "that's it. I'm going out and getting an Evo tomorrow", are still in the same boat as me. Still working their pres. Clinging to every little glimmer of hope (such as a poem) as a sign that a savior is on it's way. As we hit up the app catalog each day and see that exciting new soundboards, blood alcohol calculators, and other useless nonsense has been made available to enhance our mobile lives, we hold on to the dream of what could be. It's hard being a fanboy.

dude... if u have insurance on your phone go into sprint and say soemthing like: my power button sticks sometimes, the headphone jack stops working, it shuts down all the time, and/ or it freezes a lot. they will probably give u a refurb thats all shiny new looking. i have a shiny new-looking pre right now if you know what i mean :D u just gotta work the system bro.
I am upgrade eligible right now on Sprint. My third Pre is muddling along, overclocked to the limit and the envy of no one. My friends with iPhones and Android devices are talking about the new capabilities and apps their devices have; my tales about open development are met with "so?".
I need new, sparkling, super high end hardware and an OS to match. I need it on Sprint and I need it really soon. "In the coming weeks" is promising, but from that announcement I need to hear a Jobsian "and it's available at Sprint stores today", not "here's our roadmap and we'll have more to say sometime later."
I love my Pre and webOS. I'm starting to develop my first webOS app. I just hope I have a good reason to keep developing it.

If you want to read into the "think beyond" try thinking about a WebOS television. If google and samsung can do it, so can the largest personal electronics maker in the world.
For those crying 'do or die' or '1.5% marketshare!'... This.. Isn't... Palm. HP is massive, they knew where Palm's marketshare was, they didn't buy it for 2010 or even 2011, they bought it for where WebOS can go over the next 10 years. They can leverage massive launches with multiple devices on multiple scales (phone, tablet, netbook, television) without breaking a sweat. Buy a TV and get a netbook, smartphone or tablet free.

That and they do business services. HP can easily come into say a hospital and set everyone up with an HP tablet that they then manage.
yuuuup... screw needing a seperate box unit for apple tv. hp can make tvs that run webos. they can b "super webconnected tvs." i know hp doesnt make tvs but im sure they can get into the market. its products like that that are gunna make desktop pcs obsolete for many people in the years to come
I have been a pre owner(Pre Minus)for a while now (1+ year). All I do is read the forums and the comments; folks complaining about phones or WebOs Toaster with wifi capabilities in the coming months...So instead of all this bickering about who is committed to who or who is not, we should all be grateful that HP has decided to continue that line of communication that was created with Palm. How many hardware/software companies have engaged their community? How many "companies" put out a poem where they admit that they have been READING our forums and understand our frustration? Here is a better one... after all your complaining why are still holding on to the pre? and if you left, why do you come back to these forums and complain about a phone you no longer have?
HP thank you. I will continue to wait patiently and if that means I look like an idiot because I am being committed to a company that NEVER asked for my commitment..than so be it. AND, also equally important, THANKS to ALL DEVS and WeBOsINTERNAlZ for the committment to this SPOILED community. My 2 cents are in and I will wait for Feb. 9th! WAR: HP/PALM!!!!!!!!

YES, BRING IT ON!!! my Pre- died last week and I bought a Epic 4g 2 days ago. I returned it today because I didn't want to be stuck with a year contract while the new hardware came out and I found a EVO for cheap to get me by. I had taken for granted how great webOS is until I tried Samsung's version on android. Talk about non-intuitive. My wife and I are looking forward to getting a new phone and pad "in the coming months" i.e. ASAP
I am excited fo the announcement event. I was bummed when I realized it was in feb. and not jan. But, I am more excited for a good roadmap than a quick release.
they only delayed the announcement a month from now because they just arent ready to announce it. you know why? i will tell you why. because they want to release riiight after annoucement. ces is too early for that strat too work out. new phones in feb wuuhhhooo!
sorry to be a wet blanket, but i have some new news, apple is going to steal the moments from palm with their new verizon iPhone that should be announced on jan. 11 and start selling on feb. 3. Everybody will be so preocupied with the new verizon iPhone that nobody will notice the palm keynote a few days later. I am an apple fanboy, but it does kinda piss me off that palm can't get the spotlight for one moment, I still can't wait till feb.9 though, its gonna be amazing

I understand folks frustration with the lack of information, I'm tired of waiting and want some clarity about the future of the platform. But what I would like is for those that are so tired of waiting or dislike the Pre/Pre Plus/Pre 2/Pixi/Pixi Plus (possibly Pixi 2) and now hate HP/Palm, just move on. There really isn't a problem with choosing another platform and corresponding blogging site. There are quite a few people that love Android, BB OS and iOS 4. So just move to another experience and fill up their forums about how you left WebOS and you are soooo happy now!
I come to PRECENTRAL to hear some what positive news/comments about the platform. Not how:
"I left the Pre and have never looked back" (why are you here then LOL),
"It's too late for them to make an announcement about new devices" (people would have complained if they had made an announcement in Oct 2010! Look they announced when they were ready),
"They don't care about the consumer" (Don't support them!)
HP/Palm's device release schedule is pretty much on par with Apple. The Pre 2 is in most ways the same as the release of the iPhone 3G after the 2G. A minor spec bump, and the bitching wasn't so ridiculous for them. Android is not a good barometer because it is free and multiple device manufactures develop on that platform so of course devices will be released every other day. Just let HP/Palm do their thing and if that is not good enough do your thing and leave... quietly!

I found this announcement fantastic. The poem, eh...big deal...nice to "know or think" they are listening to the masses...
so many complaints. i myself have not been happy for such a long wait, but i will say i will have preferred this wait if Palm gets it right. If they get it wrong, then this wait was for nothing.
However, i doubt they would hold their own day if they didnt have something really nice, really shiny and really substantial up their sleeve.
Show us your new castle and everything inside it that makes it so great, and then keep on making it great, roll with the punches, and when it is time to update and improve, do not wait again...just do it!

I'll give you this, HPalm: I like your style.
I am pretty disappointed that palm wont be making any announcements at ces... :-( but the thing is... I really can't do anything about it... because well... quite frankly all of the other mobile os's... kind of suck.
My step dad owns an evo, and he's been in the hospital for a few weeks, so i have been using his phone to write down his voice-mails for him, and reroute any calls to his business that he recieves(he has private stuff on his phone and doesn't trust the outside world with it.)
My minus is on the frits so the evo's really been my personal device of choice for about 2 and half weeks now. I've even made my own "scene" to hold my facebook, personal customizations, apps , and widgets.
and honestly.. yeah the phone is nice... and the capabilities are great(using 4g hot-spot as we speak and google support and maps are killer) but the os... is... meh... even with sense.
So many times I find myself trying to swipe away applications and flip into card-view... but I just can't, and most of the things in the phone are buried in menus. The 7 home-screens thing is nice... as are my widgets(Engadget and weather ftw) and stuff but(although they do kill the battery).
I mean honestly if webos didn't exist this would be the phone of my choice... but... webos does exist, and at this point ces is also right around the corner where phones with new graphics chips, and dual core processors are going to be revealed... so upgrading at anytime during this month.. would be pretty stupid in any sense.
and come on you guise we've waited almsot two years... if you honestly waited this long only to be beaten at the 4 week mark... thats kind of sad.
So really in my book... for all of the webos users who want the latest and greatest there's really only two choices...
1.) Check out ces and see what the new hotness is, and than decide on what you want
or
2.) wait out until February 9th to see what hp is bringing to the table
either way you'll still be waiting the same amount of time... and in my opinion any other operating system is a downgrade

I will be with webOS till the end. I had my weak moments of craigslisting and ebaying EVO's, but i just couldn't give up my good ol pre minus. :)
Tear the roof off feb. 9th, i'll be watching.
Call me biased because I have the Palm pré2...but I guess they took their time and are now coming on strong.
Great that they'll come with their products before Apple and after the CES.
My guess is that the "new" devices will be available in March and over the year as I read there'll be more coming...
webOS is important - Palm is a legacy brand. HP is going all into webOS so they brand it.
Imagine a tablet, multiple phones and at the end of the year a desktop ;)...
Now if some of you want to go all ANDROID...nobody is holding you back, but I guess you'll regret it soon...

THEY KNOW THAT IF THEY DONT FIX THE PDF VIEWER they will be the laughing stock of the mobile world.
Why? Because its been promised to be fixed since day one and only temp wins and falling back failures have been the result. I still cant believe my eyes.

Twas the day after the poem,
when all through the site,
some of us were crying, a few loudly they shout

When the more its discussed, the more angst that we feel, how can they keep promising like we are a third wheel?
The hype, how it promises, the truth must be told, if i continue to read i will try to be sold.
When all of a sudden i read the last line, it promises four devices is this truly devine?
with a restructuring i understand how hard it must be. But give us something really so to bring us some glee.
I decided long ago, i would wait out my time but the time for renewal of my contract is nigh. So as i peruse my choices, i try to hold my breathe, that this promise of more is coming very quick. I need something fast, that can make coworkers whistle, or else i should leave as fast as the down of a thistle.
I know that im whining and hoping to much that we get a new device, an update, is this asking to much? Ive decided to wait.. i keep telling myself. The drug it is strong it makes me feel dirty the devices are no longer teens they are in there late thirties.
So rush now you must, because we have waited so long, the examples of this, i can list will continue thrice as long. I know you are trying and you have my allegiance just hurry before i do something egregious. announce something soon it would make all us happy, the more that we wait it makes us feel crappy.

I don't think we should expect an announcement for an immediate release of a new phone device for Sprint in the 2/9 announcement though probably the PalmPad and a "coming soon" type announcement for phones.
I have it on great authority from inside Sprint that while something is coming to Sprint down the road; nothing that quickly. Unless HP/Palm has moved up a release from where they were with Sprint a couple of weeks ago; we'll probably be getting the handsets in June as people have been saying for a while.
I hope that I'm 100% wrong and that HP announces some awesome new devices that are actually going to be released soon and that they have lined up some great app development deals or something so that we can get out of the App basement and stand a chance of competing. Otherwise even with great hardware and an amazing OS; our favorite mobile platform will simply fade away.

Point: if by outdated you mean another phone will come out with the name of Palm, and it will be larger, faster and STILL have less useful apps than blackberry, apple or android then sure, see ya then.
If i am to wait for some company that wants MY money to get off their ass and get in the game, then why is there a need for multiple platforms and competition in the first place? Right now, as in.... NOW, Palm is still making its fanbase wait.
Therefore i choose not to be as much of a fan as i used to be. Am i supposed to have some moral obligation to wait on a company that cant produce on countless promises and deadlines?

Am I gonna regret going evo? It's alright ill be back when there's a device with a decent sized screen and document editing. Need it for my job. It's too bad Google doesn't give a rats ass about palm cuz the new vector based Google maps is off the hook fast and could load a whole state at once. Whilst i not holdeth my breath. Maybe ill just keep and tether my evo w the new palm until webos has a real api and apps that do what I need. Cuz Droid does do but interface and switching between open apps blows
