Facebook finally makes Privacy settings available to mobile users 11
It's been the case for far too long that if you update your status while using either the webOS Facebook app or the mobile optimized version, the privacy settings you set on the desktop didn't apply. That meant, of course, that all of your friends - include those who you'd rather not know about the two shots of tequila you just took at the bar - were able to see your update. Facebook, in a move that took a little bit longer than it perhaps should have, has finally enabled you to control who sees what. From the Facebook blog:
You can get to privacy controls on mobile by going to m.facebook.com/privacy or by going to the Settings page and clicking the "Change" link next to the words "Privacy Settings." Check it out for yourself to:
- Select who can see the content you post by setting the simple control for sharing on Facebook to friends, friends of friends or everyone,
- Fully customize your granular settings, if you want, and have them take effect instantly, and
- Read through our comprehensive privacy guide, formatted for mobile devices.
This ability isn't in the webOS Facebook app (or for the FB app on any other platform) just yet, but given the Developer Relations Team's rapid iteration of the app we're bound to see it sooner than later.

Thank you and they got some work to do
Woah. Time to clean up the inbox, eh Robert?
All I think of is..WTF.
This lateness was prob done unpurpose by FB to allow data be run wild in the open. SOB's.
Sorry about Lang..
wait, touch.facebook.com posts don't get the same privacy settings as the normal version of the site? O_O
oh, ok. I just went to the mobile privacy page and checked, and everything appeared to be set the way I had it. Phew.
It should be noted that this is only on the m.facebook.com site. touch.facebook.com does not yet have this. That's the site that you get redirected to if you try to go to www.facebook.com from WebOS or if you go to the builtin facebook bookmark in the web browser app
grr... Repost.
"It's been the case for far too long that if you update your status while using either the webOS Facebook app or the mobile optimized version, the privacy settings you set on the desktop didn't apply."
This is simply not true. I've had a NO-C list custom set up for more than the past year, and it's my default blocked list for status updates and wall posts. All of my webOS updates are blocked from being viewed by members on this list automatically. If I go into my feed right now and hover over the padlock on my webOS status updates it lists "Viewable by Friends except for NOC list." This was also the case whenever I used the mobile site with my Centro.
It is nice that we can now access privacy settings from mobile devices now. Would be even better if they added the capability to post links and videos without having to use the full site.
double repost? Sigh...
No. The privacy settings are stored on the server side at Facebook. They're applied to your profile regardless of the method you update your feed. You just can't access the privacy settings from the touch site.
Can Precentral confirm this? I am not a facebook power user but would like some more clearification on this. I am surprised that more people did not comment on this article.
Facebook has very detailed privacy settings on the desktop side it was a little shocking to here that they did not apply if someone was using a moblie device.
Precentral can you please update this story.
