Facebook for webOS 1.2 gets official 111

As promised, Facebook for webOS 1.2 has graduated from the Beta Feed to the official App Catalog. The new update brings along the new notifications feature, keyboard shortcuts, bug fixes, and plenty more.
So you should, you know, download it. How else will you get notified when a friend of a friend of a friend comments on some cat photo you commented on last week? Priorities, people!

Not yet in the app catalog for me. I text myself the link from the palm catalog site and it said 1.1.0 still. boo!
Install the 1.1.0 version first and then use the update feature to update the app. The catelog hasn't been updated yet.

That worked. Installed 1.1.0 from catalog then went to shopping bag and it said it had an update.

Anyone know if having both this and the beta installed will give us double notifications, or cause any other issues?
Don't know for sure since I haven't downloaded it yet, but you can turn notifications on and off. You should just be able to set one to notify and the other to not notify.
I think it's happening to me, haven't removed Beta yet to see if it resolves the issue.

Updated and bummed that they didn't fix the issue opening photo comment notifications. Now when you click on one, it pops up an "error opening photo" message rather than doing nothing. Was really hoping this would be fixed in this official release.

What problem are you having? I see pictures, add comments, read other comments, get notifications when things are added. No errors anywhere. Plus it doesn't have that weird hang anymore when you uploaded a picture and added a caption. So I'm confused about the issue that's a problem. Can you explain?

Read above! Go to app catalog, tap shopping bag, update 1.1 to 1.2. Its just like when 1.1 came out. You had to download FB 1.0 at first then update to 1.2. it takes longer (few days I think) for the official App in the catalog to be upgraded to new version.

YES! its finally working. those who are having trouble using the update app to update to 1.2, dont go to updates, just open the app catalog, press the shopping bag (bottom right corner) and install the update from there -- its really the same thing. ok. im gonna go mess with my new sexy facebook software and whatnot.

Updated. But the page with the six buttons (available from the right side of the main page) doesn't have the 7th button for "Notify" as shown above. (Yes, I have WebOS notifications ON). Is this pic from the Beta and is the final release different?
I assume so. I beta tested 1.1.6 (I think that was the version number) and it had the notify button, which is a bit redundant considering there's a dedicated notifications button where the status update button used to be.

I was using the beta that included notifications. Now I downloaded and installed what it said was the 1.2 but there are no notifications?? I tried going to the shopping bag for an update and there isn't one :(
Like the above commenters, I don't have the "notify" button (although I also had it with the 1.1.6 beta).
Also, does anyone know how to manage your fan/company pages in the app? Or is that just not an option here?
I don't think it's possible to manage pages yet in this app.
My question is: in the first beta, I remember there being an option to view videos on Facebook. My wife uploaded a video from her Pre tonight and it didn't show up in the news feed in 1.1.6 or 1.2...

I click on the package update in Preware and it takes me to the app catalog where it just gives me an option to "launch"...nothing updates!!!!! ughhhh!!!
try to get on and then close the app...maybe even reboot the pre.then check it out. Wouldn't hurt.

wow,,just got it and it is very snappy now,,and it only took seconds to upload a pic,,defenitly see a big difference in performance.
got the update to work - FINALLY!! I think it just did it on its own. Also just noticed the inbox stuff...totally overlooked it all this time!!

one of the only things I miss about blackberry (besides keyboard and battery life) I miss notifications that popped up like a text message. Seeing a little notification number and having to click on another tab seems like extra effort. More so considering I would have saw the email (which the phone does notify me with) long before I manually log in to facebook. I wish I didn't have facebook sending me emails, I'd much rather a integrated notification for facebook.
ok 1st. go to facebook.com, go to:
account> account settings> notifications (tab)> and just uncheck everything that you dont want to be notified of
then
2nd. go to the facebook app on your webOS device, tap the Facebook tab on the top top left corner of the screen, choose Preferences & Accounts from the drop down menu, then turn webOS notifications on and specify the time interval. hope that helped :)
thanks for the tip... I didn't know I could change that. I woke up this morning and had the same notification from gmail and facebook. I ended up selecting "no" for webos facebook notifications in the webos app... If gmail has the option to check as items arrive i still get the notification without facebook constantly checking and killing my battery. This kinda defeats the purpose though... I'll guess I'll see how it works and if a better option exists

if you go to photo notification you get error mesage,,only way to see them is if you go to original posting.

so with the notifications, is it done by polling in the back round? if so then mea ill pass, it kills battery faster then it does already. or is this the MMS we read about a couple weeks ago?
I don't know,but the default time on mine for Notifications was 20min & I don't think that can be good for battery life. I am raising it to 1 hour. The ability to alter & turn off notifications is in the menu under "Preferences".
Developer tells me that the photo notifications error is due to permissions they are trying to get around and they are working on it. Nice to have them being so active on this app!

umm why is it so many people have crazy problems with their updates? Either getting them or can't figure out how to work them around here? It always makes me wonder cause I never have problems getting them, finding them, or learning to navigate them within seconds. Didn't take quantum physics to be curious what this new globe was and tap it.. Poof my notifications came up.. Not to mention the pic at the top of this article if you pay attention there's a little red number next to the globe just like the mobile version of facebook but now in the WebOs app version. I'm on Sprint in Chicago area on a plain ol Pre but never seem to have the same problems so many people seem to have. I'm confused what makes my phone different I don't have the same retarded issues.. I'm patched up and loaded full of apps both plam and preware.. I'm anything but special.. It just confuses me seeing the threads fill up with people complaining things are not uploading or working correctly when half of these posts here was a simple ask yourself "hey what's this globe thing in my left corner that used to be a comic book bubble" then tap it. Wow no offense to anyone I'm just honestly confused.

You are being too kind to all of the whiny babies who, when they can't figure out a simple and intuitive piece of software, decide to take to the internets to bitch about everything. Reading the reviews in the app catalog are the worst. "wwaaaahhh. it won't let me log in! someone come hold my hand and do everything for me!!!!" Hey morons, do you think that the 80% of people who can log in just got lucky, or maybe it's something besides the apps' fault. Maybe, just maybe, you should try some basic problem solving skills and figure it out yourself. You would then realize that it was your own fault all along. This is an excellently designed app. Thank you to the devs for all the hard work. And screw the iPhone. That is all.
Tell me about it's really a damn shame. Smh.. I didn't even have to read this article to know that the update was avail. I have FB for Palm webOS as a friend on FB and remember them saying that it would be avail this week so if I'm up @ mid night or in the morning I just check my updates. I don't need someone to hold my hand and show me the way.. "The notify globe is missing from the tab of the upper right and corner" Well DUHHH it's on the upper left hand corner just like it was on the beta app and just like it was there for the past month. Didn't you figure it out that the other globe was basically useless & redundent? The photos don't show up? Can see comment?? How about you have some damn patience.. Yes it's not as quick as we would like it to be but it eventually comes up, comments and all.. I tell ya the internet is a wonderful thing but it has elavated bitching to a higher level.. Any difference (beside the missing notifications button from the drop down menu) noticed between 1.2 and the 1.1.6 Beta? Let me know if you see any, otherwise no point in upgrading if they just moved it from beta to "gold."
Once you delete the beta and reboot, it's much faster on update than 1.1 or 1.1.6 beta. It also got rid of some issues I had when I uploaded photos. It used to update and then ask for a caption and just sit there - like it hadn't worked. Now it's obvious it's added the caption and moved on.
Updated without a problem... Finding everything just fine... however I am having an issue with loading up the wall posts of certain friends... Only happens on some friends walls, very few not all but nonetheless a problem... It loads up everything else from these particular friends like info and pics but the wall hangs with the dreaded swirl of death... anybody else having this issue?
Yea I've noticed that myself it happens with only like 3-5 of my 256 freinds =/ Im not sure why though.. I was thinking that it had to do something with their security settings but again I'm not sure.. When that happens I end up having to go to the mobile website.. No biggie.
i didn't have the beta. went to app catalog a few hours ago (about 7 lol). clicked the shopping bag. and there it was. 1.2, along with some other app updates.
I'm unable to log in after installing. Tried restarting the phone but doesn't help? I get a "java.lang.NullPointer Exception" error. Can anyone help?

Facebook chat should be integrated in Synergy (like AIM & GTalk) and not the FB app. it will keep the OS more uniform

There are still a substantial number of potential users, including myself, who have been waiting from version 1.1 for a fix to the login error. This version, which most expected to fix it, clearly doesn't. Bottom line, many of us still cannot login. Yes, I understand you can "wipe" your pre but I won't do this because it also deletes things that aren't backed up by Palm, and it seems SOOOO strange you can download all other apps and get them to work (including those for FB) but this app, done by Palm, still won't work! Strange. PLEASE get this fixed! At least now, like on the beta versions, it says there is an error in the java language (and some other stuff as well).

Isn't it ironic how all the news on FB on this site is shared more on Twitter than on the actual FB??? I've always found that odd :/
My friends all have iphones or droids, so don't care about this news. Plus lots of people who update all the time have their tweets automatically upload to fb.
If you do have the beta version,delete it,or you gonna have problem with the new update,v.1.2. Well,it just like the beta,but loads faster now;they also included 20mins to notifications,no Notisfy button,no Chat,Friends Request,ability to swap or delete notifications,or Photo tags.
For those people,who're complaining that,this is not like the iphone version of Facebook,remember that the iphone version didn't happen overnight.They had updates,just like we do.It takes time to get the full features.Oh,one-thing,the iphone version of Facebook,doesn't do webOS notification to alert you.Instead,you have to keep opening the app to see if you have notifications.Now,that's what's up!

that's a weird java thing on why some people can't log in.. I've never seen that problem on my release date Sprint Pre.. And for the person that doesn't want to do a wipe cause certain things are not backed up by palm.. Heres a nice step by step solution.. Ok this might be difficult to understand.. Take your little cable that came with the phone (the one you plug in the side and charge with if you don't have a touchstone) now you will notice one side looks like a USB connection.. Holy cow it is.. Plug that in the hole on the side of the comouter that matches the loose end of the cable in your hand (sorta like when you were in kindergarten and you had to match the shaped blocks to the shaped holes in the box) ok now your Pre will ask if you want to just charge or USB.. Choose USB now your Pre is an external hard drive.. Awesome.. Ok right click on your desktop on your computer choose "new folder" title it something clever like... PalmPre.. Double click that folder open it up.. Should be empty. Next go to that icon in your start menu that says computer double click then double click the drive your PalmPre is there should be a folder in there with everything in it that isn't backed up by Palm.. Now just drag it to that other window showing the empty folder and let go of the mouse button.. Holy cow you just backed up everything on your phone that the Palm backup doesn't... Nobody will do EBERYTHING for you sometimes you have to take te initiative to do things on your own. Why does everyone have to complain on here before trying to do something for themselves.. Have we all become that lazy that we expect everything to be done for us we forgot how to do things ourselves. I'm a semi-pro skateboarder and we naturally can be pretty damn lazy but most the people lately on here are making us look like work horses and power users.. Lol sorry for the smartass post but dang maybe something like that will make somepeople realize what they ask they could of done themselves in the time it took to type out a complaint on something not working right.. Your 'oh-so-simple' steps (read:common knowledge) to backup files through the USB connection doesn't actually backup everything that isn't backed up by Palm. How can you call someone lazy who would like a specific fix for a specific problem rather than taking the lazy way out and wiping the device clean? I'm getting the java error as well and I refuse to wipe my device just to fix something that could probably be fixed by simply uninstalling a previously installed patch, toggling an option, etc., regardless of backup methods. Hopefully, this issue isn't ignored and can be solved in a future version release.
perhaps you should know what you're talking about BEFORE making smart-ass comments. First of all, using webos doctor (you do know what that is, right?) to wipe your Pre does not delete the media partition (what you see when you plug it into your computer via USB), so that is really not a problem. you do not have to back that up if you are just doctoring the phone. What the OP was referring to is a large amount of application data that isn't accessible via the usb drive, nor is backed up by palm profile. Maybe you could take a look at the front page of precentral, just a few posts down from the top, to see what is referred to as "the holy grail of webos!" then, perhaps, you can shut it. ;)
I use universal search to call up apps most of the time. This doesn't work with fb. Anyone else experience this. It worked with the beta version, but it was same problem with the official version last time I had it installed...
Sprint - Palm pre, Went to the app in the app catalog said update available. Everything installed correctly and works great! Photos load quicker and comments are accessible. Woop

So when I click the notifications button, upper left, the only way I can see to get the counter reset to zero is to click on each link in the list. Is this correct? On the regular FB page, once you click the drop-down menu the number in the red box disappears.
I still can't find the "Notify" icon in the list. It only shows the original 6 icons right now.
When I try to refresh "notification" by "clicking" the "globe" icon next to the "Facebook" header, it tries to "refresh" the notifications but just got stuck there forever.
Anybody else expericing this?
Went to the app catalog from my pre plus. Searched for Facebook. It was listed as 1.2. It downloaded fine.
The Nofity setting is under accounts and preferences. It actually loaded my notifications much faster than my news/wall, for example. Facebook sometimes takes a lot of time to refresh - especially in 3G, not wireless mode.
BTW, it runs much faster if you delete the beta version and then run it, because the two apps aren't fighting for the same bandwidth.
It is my sense that slow updates on fb are a problem at the SERVER end, not the phone end. It will sit forever waiting and then download all my notifications and updates very quickly - as if I were in a queau and suddenly hit the front of the line.
I was VERY impressed at how I could upload fairly long, high quality videos from the camera to Facebook directly. It took forever, but they looked great. Warning, though. It expects a horizontal format. If you take your video vertical, it shows up on Facebook sideways.
I really like this app. I use it much more than I expected to.

When you delete beta and reboot it speeds everything up SIGNIFICANTLY.
Meh... the beta to me seemed more like an alpha version. This one feels like a beta. And even with notifications set to 4 hours, it's KILLING my battery. I'll stick with x.facebook.com. With e-mail notifications, I don't really see the need for OS notifications at the same time anyway. Which means there's really no upside.
I turned off e-mail notification so it doesn't clog my e-mail. I like seeing the notifications. Haven't had battery issues.
how do you dismiss notifications without actually having to look at them? O.O coz when i get notifications, i go to the app, look at them by pressing the globe, and the webOS notification goes away, but when i press the globe again, the notifications are still in bold with a red number telling me how many notifications i have yet to check. it seems that swiping them away (my natural webOS instinct) doesnt work, and that the only way to get rid of the notifications is to open EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM D: either on the phone or on my laptop :/
The Profile shortcut 'tap hold'+U doesn't work for me. Neither navigating from the top menu works. Only way for me is going via the icon-driven menu. Anybody else experiencing this?
The new version of the FB app has stopped working for me. Oddly the prior version and the beta worked fine--now the official release is hung on updating the news feed after working alright for a couple days. I've deleted and reinstalled and still the same.
Others are having the same issues. Some report a partial erase MIGHT (and only might) work. Any other solutions?
This is ridiculous and needs to be fixed. A Facebook app is hardly the most complex app out there...so why doesn't it work?

I love it. I would like for he notifications to stay on my screen until I remove them. they seem to disappear if I click on my email notification or the notification for my text messages.
The need to add the ability to hide all the silly games and messages from God and today's Horoscope crap that so many of my friends find amusing. I make liberal use of this on my web FB.
