Flash talk, future device discussion and more... From the Forums 26

Here's some of the latest talk from the forums:
- There are plenty of themes available to customize the looks of your webOS phone, but ElPhantasmo wants to know whats up with so many people trying to make their Pre's and Pixi's look like an Android or iOS device.
- Launch day Sprint Pre user bdhu2001 is curious: how many of you like minded folks are going to line up to get a webOS 2.0 based device should one land on Sprint.
- There's a Flash anticipation thread. For those of you still excited about the technology to come to webOS, what content are you eager to access and why?
- Forum members are talking about the possibilities of future Palm devices not shipping with a hardware keyboard (we know that there's a virtual one in store). Since the hardware keyboard is/was one of the big sells for the Pre and the Pixi, would you buy a webOS based phone/tablet if it didn't have a hardware keyboard?

I'm waiting for flash support and if they don't have a keyboard there is other phones that do clear an simple
The Keyboard is as Palm as Hot Synch, SD slots and the PIM's. So, maybe we should spend more time looking at iphone and droids?
why? so we all have to buy a man purse to carry it around? This is a smartPHONE right? If you want a 7" screen buy a computer
So you have a problem with people wanting a tablet?
I personally the current form factor. It fits my palm and pockets so well. However, I'd still want a webos tablet. 8.5"x11" viewable please.
I agree. I'll stick around until the next Palm phone is out,but if it don't have flash, large screen, hardware acceleration for smooth transitions, and an Office solution...... C'ya!
I love what webOs is coming up with and I love my pre and yeah ppl make them look like android and the ios but lets face it is because is fun to do danm it is there is like saying don't push that button you will push it to see what is the big fuzz about
No. I would not buy the Pre 2 if it doesn't have the hardware keyboard. I am already tempted by the iPhone and its glorious apps (even with a somewhat sub-par OS), please don't make me sin HPalm!
Seriously, the keyboard is one of the largest differentiators between the Pre and its competition; removing it would be a fatal mistake.
Also, this screen shot pretty much confirms at least one device with a hard keypad (!)

This is what needs to happen.
Palm announces
- Pre 2,
- Pixi 2,
- 3.7/4.0 Touch screen phone
- 9 inch tablet
All at one event.
That's something for everyone and it brings them instantly back into the game.
I personally won't buy the next WebOs phone if it *does* have a hardware keyboard.
I would love it if HPalm is thinkin like you! You are right, this would please everyone!
only thing i'd like to see is the Pixi 2 with the same specs as the Pre 2. I like that form factor better. HPalm should leave the low-range smart-dumbphone market to Nokia
I don't want a hardware keyboard in my next phone either.
What is needed is not just replacements for the currently line up of phones, but a greater range of them. I am really looking forward to a range of tablets as well.
so ya want the pre to become the pixi and the pre2 with no keyboard wtf are ya thinking no keyboard then don't call it the pre2 just give it some other gay name don't ruin the good name of the pre by saying no hardware keyboard
yes I would line up for a new sprint palm devicce and I think they should have a all touch and a keyboard phone. On another note I want it now

I will likely buy the next Palm phone assuming it drops on Sprint. I'm not switching carriers. I took a look at the flash anticipation thread...started in Jan 2009...it's Sept of 2010 and there are over 100 pages. I wouldn't count on Flash in 2010. Seems like they are pulling a Docs to Go on us. Android already has it...and there's the iphoney browser submitted for approval that translates Flash video content. So while we were supposed to be first...looks like we'll come in some place near last.
I've stood up for the Pre's keyboard against formidable criticism. I'd have to say that if the Pre 2's keyboard is as cramped and squishy as the current one, well, I'd rather have a virtual keyboard.
I'm all in for a new Palm Device, I just wish they'd get on with it already. I love my Pre, but I do wish for a more robust device and the Evo 4G is pretty dang tempting. I'm being patient, though. I love Palm WebOS software so much, that it's worth the wait. If they've really listened, fixed everything that was wrong with the Pre and create a snappy device that can let the OS reach it's full potential ... well then it could just be the best dang smartphone ever.
...and personally, I don't care if it has a keyboard or not. The physical keyboard wasn't a big selling point for me. I can adapt to whatever.
0 interest in flash at this point. Give me hardware and html5.
how about instead of a Pre/Pixi style release, they come out with a Pre with a keyboard & a Pre without a keyboard...

The HTC Windows Phone 7 is reported to have a 4.5" AMOLED touchscreen, dual core 1.5ghz ARM-based processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB storage, 4G capable, a 8mp camera with HD recording capabilities, all powered by a 1800mah battery.
umm.. if its not this good.. then wp7 here i come
HPalm:
Focus on getting the business user on board with watever hardware...that will show if you hit or miss...have a Palm2 with keyboard and Palm2 without keyboard - that's it. Very easy. That way all customers are happy:)
We have all stuck around too long with this device and have seen it try and fail. We are the many people who bought a Sega and thought it was better than Nintendo. It wasn't. And look what nintendo has done to date. My wife is on Verizon and just bought the Driod X and I must say I am not turned off by the screen size at all. I'm actually very jealous. Jealous of the size, jealous of the apps and jealous that she now can easily say her phone is better than my pre. (after all that sh#t talking i've been doing for the last year)
One of the main reasons I bought this phone was because it was the "iphone killer" and it is clearly not.
This phone has been out for how long and still no apps! I've heard the agruments that it took iphone forever to get apps too, but that's b/c they started the smartphone app crazzzz..
Anyway, i'm jumping ship and am moving my business where the business is at. And It is clearly not here.

I'm amused by the app irony. Palm OS was open source and had thousands of apps but never attained wide-spread popularity. Apple was successful by putting only approved apps in one place and protecting users from crappy apps causing perceived device issues. Palm adopted the latter and is now criticized for it. Google took Palm's former approach and is praised for it. I do agree that we need more hardware selection. Some people don't mind PdQ-size phones up to their head (remember that?) and should be accomodated.
