Forget a Wi-Fi network 11

Have you ever logged on to a Wi-Fi network, only to realize that you don’t want your phone to auto-connect to that network again? Here's how to remove a Wi-Fi network from your device.
- You must have Wi-Fi turned on and be connected to the Network you want to forget.
- Open up the “Wi-Fi” setting page for that specific network. To do this, either:
- This will open up the setting pages for that specific network. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and press the “Forget Network” button

The biggest problem here is that if you have a wifi network on your Pre that is going flaky (can't consistently connect) you can never "forget it".
Whomever came up with the idea that you have to be connected to a wifi network in order to remove it, should be forced to write documentation for 6 months. It would be nice if you could just see a list of wifi networks that your Pre knows about and then you can swipe to delete them.
I have a situation where I connected at one time to a wifi network, now I can not get connected to it to remove it. But everytime I am at the location where I added it at one point in time it constantly tries to connect and fails. The result is that I am forced to turn wifi off while at that location (to get a EVDO signal).
Yep, I've had exactly the same problem recently.
Have a strong signal to a Wifi network that I tried to get it to connect to, but it fails for some unknown reason. I can never connect long enough to forget it, but it tries constantly. Had to turn Wifi off, and then forgot it was off and sucked down the battery at home on EVDO for a day or two.
If anyone ever figures out a way to fix this, I wanna know.
I see how that might be very annoying. I would throw my pre out the window if I had internet problems like that
I am really liking this tip series. Good idea.
I have a number of public wifi spots that need to be forgotten so that they can be fixed to connect properly. Problem is this method doesn't work since they don't connect but repeatedly try and waste power in the process unless I hassle and turn wifi off and remember to turn it on. In certain cities I can be on wifi the whole time due to public wifi sources. Note the plural. So turning it off because of the ones in need of forgetting is not really beneficial. We need to be able to edit and forget wifi connections without connecting to them just like with our PC/netbook/laptop.
OK.. Here is what works for me, I go to wifi preferences, then move button to WiFi ON... Then I choose by tapping the networ I want to connect to vs the PRE choosing..
The default being to *remember* all wifi networks is lame. Whenever I log into a Starbucks' hotspot, I have to remember to "forget" it, or else the next time I walk by ANY Starbucks, I will auto-connect, but then be unable to access the internet until I accept their terms in a browser page. That means that even with my phone in my pocket, I'm unable to get my push email, twitter notifications, etc, for as long as I'm at Starbucks. The irony is that it's only because I'm getting my work email pushed that I'm able to play hooky at Starbucks!
Same exact problem if you have happen to use wifi somewhere where they are dumb enough not to change the default SSID of their router (typically linksys). Every time you walk past another equally dumb wifi users router your Pre tries to connect.
I really wish there was a way to have wifi networks be "auto connect" or "ask me to connect". That way when walking by a linksys (or Starbucks) router will not have your Pre automagically trying to connect.
This would be a good tip if it worked but it doesn't.
As another commenter pointed out, if you try to delete a network that allows you to connect but presents you with a log in screen (like a blue socket connection), you can never get rid of the network and it will always try to connect when youre in range. To add insult to injury, your phone doesn't know that it's really not connected so anything dependant on Internet access won't work. Very frustrating. This is a bug and should be fixed!
I have used this MANY times to forget a network like that. you just need to get a wifi connection (even if you are not logged in), then follow the steps to forget that network. works like charm for me (or are you talking about something else?).
Thanks for the great tip, as I was having issues connecting to wi-fi at home because my pre work connect to the neighbors wi-fi some how and not my own, this would cause the connection to be flaky (at best).
