PreCentral's Take

For those not in the know, Foursquare for webOS, which was developed from scratch by Zhephree, is quickly becoming one of the better Foursquare apps in the smartphone space regardless of platform.  It's seen a slew of updates that have introduced new features and fixed bugs, a major UI overhaul, and the developer is constantly responding to user feedback, and best of all it's open source. With Foursqaure for webOS, you can: Compete with your friends and check in at local venues to become the "mayor", take advantage of Foursquare only deals offered by local venues, and keep track of your food and drink conquests (all while updating your Twitter followers along the way) in style.

Update: I know you've heard it before, but better GPS!; other minor tweaks and compatibility issues People use foursquare to "check-in", which is a way of telling us your whereabouts. When you check-in someplace, we'll tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. People check-in at all kind of places - cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes, offices. You'll find that as your friends use foursquare to check-in, you'll start learning more about the places they frequent. Not only is it a great way to meet up with nearby friends, but you'll also start to learn about their favorite spots and the new places they discover. And now you can experience on your webOS phone! Find your friends, check-in to veneus, oust a mayor, and see what people recommend at nearby places! If you're feeling competitive, head to the leaderboard and see where you rank amongst your friends or even your city. We're constantly developing this app to make it always user-friendly and easy to use. webOS 2.0 Users: JustType to find venues or send a shout!

Great idea for an application, but too many bugs remaining. I often get an error when trying to edit information of a venue. In the cases it does succeed, I have attempted many times. For example, if you correct the street adress, then set the category, the street adress is reset to previous value and you have to start all over. Frequently, "refresh" does not work. Not only is the button hard to react (have to hold your finger firmly for some time), the search results are unchanged. Shaking the Pre to initiate refresh is a good idea, but again - same result if even you are miles since your last location. It fixes itself if you quit and restart the application

zipsquare addressed the bugs and is very lite and fast. If you need an alternative that works and works well, try that.

Actually, as that comment was posted in April, those issues have also been resolved in this app :)

It's a great app. There are some issues with it though. I can pretty much checkin anywhere while sitting at my house. I was also at AT&T and when viewing it the name of the place only showed "AT" but on another view it showed "AT&T"

Ive been using it for several months now and love it. I even used the Starbucks nearby mayor special by being the mayor of a Walgreens right beside of a Starbucks. There's been a few little bugs but overall, it's an amazing app that lets people play a game with their daily lives and potentially earn free or reduced price stuff in the process.

Also use this app quite often. It does have some issues with the 'fix venue' options, however, since the first release of this app, the improvements and updates have been superb. Recommend over the other 'check in' variants.

seems like a cool app but it is sooooooooo slow! Or is it just my pre!? I click on a place and literally takes almost 4-5 minutes to load!?

My pixi minus takes about 20 seconds to open, locate where I am, and suggest where I might be. Clicking on a place loads within 3-5 seconds, so... it may just be your pre D= try updating the app if possible?

It would be a good app if it would post to Facebook...

Hi! To get foursquare and Facebook together, go to your settings on the foursquare website, after you login, of course, and there will be settings for Facebook and Twitter. There, you can link them together, and configure it how you want.

I wish the photo upload option would work some day. It has a lot of other issues/bugs. Accuracy blows, especially compared to other location/gps dependent apps.

I've just built the public beta of this and it solves many of the issues you guys are seeing. This weekend I'll be pushing it to the App Catalog. Stay tuned!

Foursquare is a cool concept and app, but it is losing its cachet for me because after you pick up a few badges, you plateu and the level of engagement with the game goes flat. You don't get rewarded or recognized for winning the leaderboard. Its great fun at first, but afte you gain all the badges your normal life generates, it turns rather dull and you stop being excited or interested in checking in.

I use foursquare quite often, as does my wife. A few of my friends have even joined up since they see our updates on Facebook/Twitter. It's not the most robust app, but it's definitely fun and easy to use.

In competing with friends with the iphone, they have an advantage with the "ping" ability (they recieve alerts on their phone whenever I check in (unless I check in anonymously, which I dont want to do). Any news on this ability coming to the Palm app?

I have given up on Foursquare on my Pre. Less than 50% of the time when I load the app do I actually get a listing (instead it just loads forever) and when I do it's rarely anywhere near my current location. Should I succeed in checking in once, a second search fails 90% of the time (again, loading forever). Hitting refresh doesn't do anything, I have to quit and re-load the app. All in all, terrible.

Is it just Foursquare or other GPS apps?
