Foursquare Coming to webOS 14
Foursquare, if you didn't know, is a mashup of a YARF (Yet Another Restaurant Finder) and social networking into a kind of "Hipper than thou, hang out at the coolest places more" game (ok, so we're only down on it because it doesn't cover where most of your PreCentral.net writers live and work). Anyhow, it's a neat app and well-loved by many a connected urbanite, but currently available in app form only on Android and the iPhone
For some time now, we've been hearing that Foursquare was coming to webOS from good folks like GrantHeppes and jhoff80. So we've been waiting for it. Enter @Adora, whom you may know better as friend-of-the-site, PreDevCamp Organizer, and current Palm developer relations guru Lisa Brewster. She posted the above screenshot on Twitter last night of an "awesomely alpha webOS" version of Foursquare and we have to say: looks decent.
Once this gets released, webOS life will be complete: Foursquare when you want to go out on the town and one of the several FMyLife apps when you are stuck at home with your cats and a half-gallon of Edy's.

Super!
I've been waiting for another "mainstream" app like this one.
been using the foursquare app for a week or so. it is great!
just a guess, but it probably doesn't cover topeka ks.....

I was on vacation this past weekend and I had fun seeing how many random places I could "check in" with foursquare. The problem was I was using it on my ipod touch so I couldn't do it unless I had a wifi signal. This is a fun little game and I look forward to it on the Pre. It's funny seeing a friend get made "mayor" of a bar because he went three times in a row, etc.
As far as covering areas, I noticed that if they don't know where you are (like what business, etc you are in) you can add it to their database. I'd imagine the game aspect is a great way to build their listings.
I installed it a week ago, too. But I haven't been using the app much; been busy with life at home lately.
It looks promising, though.
If you don't want to hassle with the alpha version, there's a way to sign up to help test the beta. But now I can't remember where that sign up is. Anyone recall?
Here you go.

Just installed and it looks promising. It takes a while to load the nearby places though and I can't get the friends tab or the award tab to open.

Hey all -- thanks for the mention! I'm zhephree on github and i've been working like crazy to get this app out. glad to hear you guys are interested. hopefully i'll be able to get some more done soon.
Great work thus far!
I just started watching the project on Github, and await your next release.
I have also been using for a week or so, and hoping to be a mayor of someplace soon...check in...does anyone know if there is a spot on their site to suggest a new city? I'm going to Boise ID soon and would like to be able to check in places there.
