Assassin’s Creed - Altair’s Chronicles

With more and more 3D games coming to the webOS App Catalog, users are left wondering if they’re worth the coin. While reviews go aways to assuage fears of quality, that still doesn’t mean you will like it. How do you know? You try it! Thankfully, Gameloft understands the meaning of “demo” and has popped out free demo versions of both Assassin’s Creed - Altair’s Chronicles and Gangstar: West Coast Hustle (both appended with “FREE”), along with updates for the full versions of several of their games. These demo versions, like the previously released Asphalt 5 demo, provide a brief taste of how gameplay actually works.

Both Assassin’s Creed - Altair’s... FREE and Gangstar: West Coast Hustle - FREE are available now in the App Catalog (US only, sorry), for - you guessed it - free.

yay! Gonna have to try AC

cooll

I was holding off on buying them (not my type of games, though I understand Gangstar, having grown up in the San Diego area), but now I have to try them out (downloading the demos, along with the update to NFSU).

I love it!!!!!!

this is great. keeps my pre fresh

not a fan of the console assassins creed but kinda liked the demo here. Gangstar not so much.

laminar should release demos too

Have you tried Assassin's Creed 2 console? It is about 100x as good as the first one - no more repetitive gameplay, integrated story. Phenomenal game, imo. My favorite game ever - it knocked off fallout 3 from the top spot in my head.

Hell yeahh!!!

thanks so much! i just got my pre and i've learned so much in so little time!

Welcome to the community!

Sweet!

Finally had a chance to try out both games and I must say...pretty impressed. Assassin's Creed has really smooth gameplay with graphics to boot. I was never into the Grand Theft Auto type games but Gangster Hustle was fun be played so flawlessly on my Pre. Even a couple months back I tried Asphalt and was blown away by the visuals, sound, and intuative controls. Keep em coming...

Finally somebody realized that not everyone is willing to spend money on stuff they can't try out before buying. Thankfully! The concept of demo versions isn't exactly new and not offering a demo is a deal-breaker as far as I am concerned.

But what is it with all this 'US only'?! Even for demo version?! Seriously!? You just missed a perfect chance to score a point with all us impatient European Pre owners. Still stuck with 200 apps or so and now even demo version being released US only. That really seems like torture on purpose. Please, give us something to work with!!!

I try to run this, and with absolutely no cards open already, my phone tells me I have too many cards open!

I have a feeling it may be an issue with my handset :-(

Do a Luna restart w/ homebrew Luna manager or via jason robitale's extra options on power down patch (sorry don't remember the real name). If u find u need this most days, get the reboot scheduler app (homebrew too)

http://m.precentral.net/reboot-schedule-homebrew-app-does-reboots-your-s...

Just reboot

Anyone know what the NFS update changed?

Further insult to the very unhappy European Pre owners. You lot have one of the best smartphones around...we still have paperweights. Sort it Palm...and fast. Losing huge amounts of business over here as well as respect and faith.

Why not release in Europe? Don't they know we get paid apps really soon, and are itching to buy these games?

You Europeans have the patience of a saint. I'm in the United States and if I were still stuck with just a handful of applications, this phone would have been dumped quite a while ago (I'm sure more than a few of you have done just that).

I certainly hope everything straightens out for you very soon.

Absolute lunacy. These games were posted in full (torrent) on here last week, and non US have NO WAY of sampling 3D gaming like this on our Pres (yes I know doom/quake but they aren't comparible imo). Do gameloft not plan on selling outside the US or are they that dumb when submitting to Palm that they only leave the one checkbox ticked?

You got me...haven't a clue why Palm would bypass othe countries and options for more revenue.

Maybe it is not Palm and the countries are blocking these options...everyone wants a kickback...I guarantee if your respective governments want and can make money they well.

USA's government (you notice I didn't say my government...they nolonger work for us) is so busy taking care of special interest that everything has come down to money, someone has to pay for those handouts...free healthcare, foodstamps, or otherwise, but then that's another tangent...

Gameloft Rocks...Assassin Creed is interesting, but very hard to play and control...I must be getting old. Aspault5 is very enjoyable and a game I could see owning and thankfully takes advantage of the dream accelerometer controls that more games on the Pre need to offer.

Looking forward to N.O.V.A. And keep up the great work... Sorli...

Or did you perhaps think it is not so much an issue with taxation/revenue generation but rather an issue with international copyright laws. Perhaps Palm is still trying to work that out.

Yes...that is exactly what I was thinking. Sorli...

A political rant on PreCentral? Seriously?

Since you brought it up, there's been free healthcare (Medicaid), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (foodstamps), Special Interests' Handouts, etc for decades. It's hardly a new phenomenon.

A big thumbs down, till they realise that there are other countries apart from US in the world! Release the demo world wide !!! Geeezz....

I was a longtime Palm-Freak and Fan now. I still have my Pre and love it but I am getting more and more angry about the policy and strategy of Palm.

Obviously they are not able to learn that in good old Europe there are living hundreds of million of people. A huge market that other companies like Apple and Google have very well in their focus.

We Europeans have allways to wait: For the handest itself, for the updates, for the free app catalogue, even now for these demo's - I just cannot understand why.

PALM: It is the wrong strategy believe me: Apple and Google are really very, very strong here over in Europe and your brand is not any more very well known. You should hurry up.

O2 does in the moment advertisings concerning the great apps on the Pre in Germany although the app catalog has still beta-status. This is an absolute joke!!
We have only 247 Apps in the Catalog - another joke!!

PALM - HURRY UP OR YOU WILL LOSE CUSTOMERS AND MARKETS!!!!
AND TELL YOUR DEVELOPERS ALSO THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE LIVING ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN!!!!

Sorry folks but I am getting more and more angry about Palm!

Well, that

That's a lot of words.

I love my Pre, but I'm becoming more and more frustrated.
I don't mind too much waiting for Paid applications until next month.

But not able to access free applications is very frustrating.

I contacted many developers asking why if 95% of the applications on my Spanish App Catalog are in English they dont submit it for Spain as well.

One of them sent me a screen shoot showing me that if you click away Spanish as a language you disable Spain as a country and that they don't want to risk any problem with Palm submiting false information saying that the application is in Spanish.

PLEASE, lets make sure that Palms gets the point.

Go to http://www.palm.com/us/company/feedback.html and tell them to add a new default category: "World Wide", for applications in English that should show up in any WebOS device that fires the App Catalog.

PLEASE PLEASE

I'm also a frustrated european Pre User. No Turn by Turn Navigation, no high quality apps, NOT EVEN FREE 3D GAME DEMOS. So Palm, please hurry and don't let me buy the f****ing Iphone. Already gave the feedback to palm.com

I think every EU user has said what i want to...but seriously palm...

Anyone want to upload the demo files for download?

Sent palm the feedback, maybe you should make a thread in the gsm section so a lot of people send in complaints.

ohh great! Free games! Then it's downloadable for european users also, and those of us who bothered to buy a phone in another country !! :-)

No, wait. It's not this is bullsh!t and it st!nks !!
No games to download, but - on the other hand - my Pre can make a fart sound. Very appropriate!

This game is great, the graphics are amazing, but...someone needs to come up with a better way of controlling the game. This game essentially puts the controller IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN. So most of the sweet graphics are obscured by the control graphics and your thumbs.

Some kind of bluetooth, clip on, touchstone chargeable gamepad would be awesome. If you're gonna push the gaming capability you have to improve the controls in these games.

If you have no access to the demos in your country then you can download the IPK files from the Palm servers and install them manually (like homebrew software):

https://cdn.downloads.palm.com/apps/1804/files/com.gameloft.app.assassin...

https://cdn.downloads.palm.com/apps/1802/files/com.gameloft.app.gangstar...

https://cdn.downloads.palm.com/apps/1405/files/com.gameloft.app.asphalt5...

Yeah tried that. That's a fail. It flashes a gameloft logo for half a second and bounces you out back again. Thumbs down.

Then something went wrong. I have all three demos downloaded and installed and they work great.

One idea: Maybe gameloft calculated the memory requirements wrong so you don't get the "too many open cards" error and instead the game crashes when it can't allocate enough memory. Try rebooting the phone before starting the game to free up some more memory.

What version of WebOS are you on?

(and yes i did restart, just to make sure)

webOS 1.3.5.2 which is the latest firmware available here in Germany.

Problem sorted. Updated to the latest Quick Install version and used that. Worked a treat. Cheers :)

i have version 2.96 of webOS, neither assasin's creed nor gangstar demos is available in my app store so i downloaded here from the link that appears but when i'm going to play i can't. im kinda new in the palm pre "world". any solution???? thnx

How bout a demo for Domino Fever! Please. :D

Sucks that neither of them run on my Pre. I have the original X-Plane, Let's Golf, and Glyder along with the Asphalt 5 demo and they all worked (almost) fine, but now since I downloaded AC and Gangstar none of them will work, they won't open and I don't even get the "Too Many Cards" error either. I'm beginning to hate you now Palm. Fix your phone.

OMG! I think I'm hooked. Finished the demo already.

Now what? Guess I'm buying it : )

The "d-pad" action take a bit to get used to but it works.

Just downloaded and played them both. Unbelievable game play on a phone! I have an IPod Touch and these games are as good as any in the Apple App Store.

good stuff!

I just downloaded the files with the link and installed as homebrew. I use a German Pre. It is absolutely silly: the game runs completely in German!!!!! Unbelievable, the demo is not available in the German App Catalog but the game is prepared for German language!

sorry I forgot to say "thank you" for the link to the files! And to mention that the game is absolutely great stuff!!!!

Asphalt 5 worked a couple of times and now it only offers to buy the full version, no demo gameplay anymore.
