Full Agenda For Palm's Developer Days Now Available 63

by Robert Werlinger Tue, 20 Apr 2010 3:11 pm EDT

Those of you who are attending (or thinking of attending) Palm's Developer Day in Sunnyvale this weekend now have access to the full agenda for the two day event.  On the docket for the weekend are hacking sessions, off-site mixers, and speeches from high-level engineering folk such as Graphics Frameworks Engineer Andy Weir, VP of Platform and Tools Joe Hayashi, and of course Directors of Developer Relations Ben Galbraith and Dion Almaer.

Looking over the agenda, it looks like developers are getting more than their $25 worth, as both days are packed solid with presentations.  The first day gives a higher level overview of webOS with presentations starting at 10:00am and ending around 5:00pm.  The second day gets down into the nitty gritty with presentations starting at 9:00am with the keynote speech (delivered by Ben and Dion), being followed up with multiple presentations during each time slot, with everything wrapping up with an off-site mixer around 5:30.

Thanks to everyone that sent this in!

Thanks for the agenda...I'm thinking about attending.

those cars probably aren't even the employees ya know employees usually have designated parking closest to the doors those are probably visitors cars.... & the van? Must be the soccer mom they had come in for all the palm adds.

Those are some crappy vehicles outside the Palm Headquarters.

Porsche 911... crappy?

That 911 is the one making the others look crappy... lol

I think the 911 is headed over to Twitter's parking lot soon.

How do you know it's Abott's and not Ruby's?

I assumed Ruby's car was shrouded in secrecy along with the next gen webOS device.

I don't know where you work but those are normal vehicles. Not everyone can afford or even wants the latest car.

You probably drive the van depicted HOnis.

Vans are very useful vehicles. I drive something completely different though.

I'm sure that's your 911 then?

This is how I roll HOnis.

lol how big is ur farm?

260 acres...

touche

Your truck is a perfect example of why I don't miss living in TX...

Photoshopped!! The shadows are all wrong and I see some pixellation in the corner!!

The only thing wrong with your truck is that it's doesn't have a single speck of dust on it or scratch on that cow guard. Where's the 4-wheeler you actually use to tool about your acreage? No sense showing off that you waste gas on your way to and from the grocery store.

And to be fair, I drive a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi or my 2009 Subaru Impreza (5 door aka hatchback). When I finish paying off the Subaru I'll probably get a truck if nothing else than to have a complete set of vehicles. Pontiac is my snowbird como (pisses off the locals and the most comfortable car I've driven), Subaru gets me to work and back daily rain/shine/highway turned into a wash, and the truck will get my crap moved from point a to point b (the Subaru kinda does this but not for the big stuff and I miss sitting up when driving). I'm an engineer, so practical reasoning keeps me from buying some sports car or monster truck :/

Did you take that pic with ur palm phone?

I was just thinking the same thing as I was zooming that picture.

HQ should look like this.

these days more like

thats well done, how did you do it?

Paint........

photoshop and trust me i'm not very good. took same pic. Googled "goldman sachs logo" added it to photo shop. Copied the logo and pasted it on top of the other logo. resized it with "transform" so it was the right size. Hit "duplicate layer" like 8 times to copy the logo. Then just dragged it onto the cars. Save and done. Considering what i've seen real artist do on photoshop on youtube this i embarassingly simple. But i'm no graphic designer so i figure it was simple enough that i could go for it.

lol.

In order:

Honda CR-V (1st Gen)
Porsche 911 (996)
Ford Windstar (1st Gen)
Audi A4 (B5 1st Gen)
Acura TSX (1st Gen)
Volvo S40 (1st Gen)
Toyota 4Runner (2nd Gen)
Infiniti G35 (V35)
Volvo 240 (post 1990)
Hyundai Sonata (4th Gen Post 2001 refresh)
Toyota Corolla (late 80s early 90s)
BMW 5-series (E39)

Not TOO bad...(maybe only the Corolla...)

Good eye man. Thnx.

Wow, THAT'S what you got from this article??

i would like to see flames shooting out of the top of that building :) with everybody safely out side of course !! webOS = awesome!!! palm pre = fail x 10 !!

I wonder why no one is hyping the "Roadmap" segment at the end of Friday.

Keynote - "Welcome, Good-bye, and Good Luck" - Michael Abbott, SVP of Software and Services.

and then Avie Tevanian takes the stage... I wonder what he did when he left Apple.

They need to add a track for "publishing old public domain content to clog up the app catalog" to round out the agenda. They could have a "beginner" track for newbies, and an "advanced" track for people from Dijit and Brighthouse...

Or they could just implement an official blacklist for people who want to never see those developers in the catalog from their phones. There is technically a patch already, but it only fades the name of the app and doesn't destroy it with fire that I so desperately desire it to do.

+100 I'll bet 20% of the app catalog is spam from 2 or 3 evil developers like dijit and brighthouse. There should be a limit to the number of apps they are allowed to publish in any category.

some of you guys need your membership revoke from this site. this means new big things about to happen.

They might surprise y'all with a hardware preview. That would do a lot to shut up the Apple employee lurkers that tend to keep posting trash about one of the (cue echo) GREATEST DEVICES EVER INVENTED... ;)

Seriously, there's been so much hyperbole and Palm trash talking on this site that I can't help but think the great almighty Jobs is employing them to dis us. Am I the only one thinking this? The hardware on Verizon is actually quite nice (except for that silly key repeating problem). I've grown so fond of this thing, I'd actually fight a bloody fight to defend it... ;)

I diss all the time and I am the proud owner of pre # 10 ! I can say what I want and I am not a happy camper!!

Ok, but even if you're a Sprint Pre/Pixi owner, you wouldn't be fair to judge Palm's current offerings based on the phone *you* bought - the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus are available now from various other carriers and they're built a lot better. You bought iteration #1. I feel your pain (and I appreciate your early support), but you NEVER buy version 1.0 of anything! Let's put the past behind us and tell people about the Pre Plus! If you love WebOS as much as I do, Palm is building YOUR next phone, so let's be supportive. 'K?? (And, no, I don't work for Palm, Verizon, Sprint or anyone else...)

10 pres? Good god man? i'm on one. I'm far from a happy camper but i applaud your persistence. Hell i only give pretty women two strikes and that's only if they don't piss me off too bad like saying something offensive like such and such a team i support sucks. phones pretty much get one strike. considering in a year i can get a new one.

if I could leave now I would!! soon as its upgrade time..( if palm has nothing (most likely) I will smile and move on to the next best phone.. but i dont think it will be the "hyped" evo 4g because I think its ugly.. really ugly

and friggin' HUGE! I can already hear it, "is that an Evo 4G in your pocket or are you just happy to see me."

The specs are unbelievable, but sounds big/bulky to put in a pocket.

I'm hoping for a new hardware announcement too.

I have had my Pre for 5 weeks. The hardware is great, no problems at all. I like the light weight of the phone, plastic is fine by me, in fact I prefer it.

Rumor (Gizmodo) has it that the new iPhony is going with more plastic to improve cell reception. So plastic isn't all bad. See Below:

"Why the plastic back?
The plastic back is the most obvious of the design choices. The iPad, with its all aluminum back, has seen its Wi-Fi reception radius reduced. The 3G version comes with a large patch on the top, probably big enough to provide with good reception. But the new tiny iPhone doesn't have the luxury of space: It needs to provide as much signal as possible using a very small surface. I'm sure Jon Ive is dying to get rid of the plastic back, and go iPad-style all the way, but the wireless reception is the most important thing in a cellphone. A necessary aesthetical-functional trade-off."

For those interested. Apple just utterly destroyed earnings expectations with dramatically better then expected ipod sales and very good iphone sales. And higher then expected guidance for the next quarter.

In other news they also utterly destroyed the hopes of people that still believed they were The Innovators.

Cant believe they havent been able to get multitasking right and are thinking now about...mmm...synching with facebook, wohoo!

sold nearly twice as many iphones and ipod then they did last year the same quarter, 8.7 million iphones sold last quarter. Trust me. when you sell 8.7 million units of only one of your product and see growth in old formats like ipods, they don't give a rats ass about whether people think they are innovators right now.

Make no mistake. Palm would love to have this percentage of growth in device sales and if it did it would be doing great.

"they don't give a rats ass about whether people think they are innovators right now"

Indeed.

Id love to see Windows 7 sales in MacOS X too but not possible either.

what do you mean? You mean window 7 on a mac computer? Cause the way you phrased it confuses me. I think microsoft is a different animal because in the desktop space they got marketshare and a lot of captive businesses that can't just change to apple. Plus there is always the issue that windows has a long rep as a business O.S. and obviously macs do similar things but for a long time it wasn't considered "serious" for businesses that where art related.

And reports are Mac earnings are up too. No doubt it's a well run company and i think "innovation" is important but not at the expense of making money. and hell, unlike the other players they've created an integrated apple eco system wrapped up in a slick cohesive package (referring to the look of the operating systems across platforms and the look of hardware). From a business standpoint they are one of the standard bearers in terms of product marketing.

Damn sheeple. Baaaaa, baaaa...

That's because they are coming out with the iPad Touch -p ocket edition. It plays music, surfs the web via wifi, and is about the same size as an iPhone. Oh, wait...

i barely get the appeal of the ipad. i just don't need an ebook reader. but that's just me.

well at least with a few exceptions. like there's some music software like beat machines and where i could really see it being useful. Cause it's replicating something you tape. see beatmaker for ipod. so wish they had that for palm pre but don't see it ever happening. And i get for comics. But honestly i prefer audiobooks cause i can listen when i drive which is a time when obviously the ipad would not be useful.

The Korg iElectribe closed the deal for me: http://korg.com/iElectribe excellent app and about as close to Korg's classic drum machine sound as you can get. Also hella fun to use, and great example of multitouch doing something cool. Basically, I bought a 1.5lb drum machine that also can surf the web, and I'm fine with that.

i totally get that. i could see using beatmaker on it. http://www.intua.net/products.html

but an ipad is ludicrously far down on my wish list. in fact it's not on the list but hey for those that have a use i can't begrudge them.

@Cantaffordit

+50 LOL!

I needed that this evening, thanks! :)

you are very welcome. iPod Touch is just a small iPad as far as I can tell, although it has a few more features than the full sized iPad. And now iPods comes with duct tape so you can put four of them together to make an iPad...

I would sooooo much rather have a MacBook Air than an iPad.

didnt mean to reply here, my excuses

Don't think anyone read the agenda. :)

do you say this because you're speaking on the rockstar graphics with html5 portion? if you're the same dave balmer of course... if not then could I ask what you're referring to?
