Game Boy emulator available to non-homebrewers (with webOS 1.4.5) 29
There's some exciting stuff going on in the gaming world these days thanks to the PDK, the recent roll out of webOS 1.4.5 to Sprint users, and the ability for indie developers to publish titles in the App Catalog (Nevermind that 1.4.5 save bug). Palm's beta feed gives a glimpse into the future (one that we can participate in now!) by giving access to two exciting new titles.
The first is a homebrew favorite we have mentioned before: VisualBoyAdvance, a Gameboy emulator selling for a cool $4.99. It's notable because for the first time, you don't need to be a homebrewer to install it and because it's an example of a developer selling a game without having to go through the entire App Catalog approval process.
The second is not Angry Birds (though we hear it's coming next week - thanks GFS & Tasslehof!), but rather a neat little indie game that resembles it: Name Me.
Now that PDK Hot Apps is running for real, there are a ton of open spaces for developers to grab some cash from Palm. We're expecting that 1.4.5 & these apps are going to really drive some exciting times for webOS gaming.

Yes, you need to find ROMs yourself. The wiki ( http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/Application:VBA ) near the bottom has a few good free ones to play with :).

Sign me up for some Angry Bird Action. That game is super addicting. Played it for the first time on a buddy's Ipad. Wicked fun stuff.

I just found it at houseofpalm.com but it won't install on my pre plus because Verizon hasn't released 1.4.5 yet!!!!

I will be really upset if Angry Birds is released before Verizon updates to 1.4.5. Why does it take them so long!!!

the PDK game "name me" is actually really nice, and he's looking for names, hence the title. I totally suggest checking that one out and showing our support to indie PDK groups!

name me beta is in the beta catalog. Either preware it or appscoop it.
This won't last long. Nintendo will have it removed.
So I've been having trouble with homebrew virtual boy ever since 1.4.5 came out. It just freezes and resets the pre when I try to load a game. Is this just a way of getting people to switch to the pay version?
Of *course* that's not the intention. Every single release is in preware (just fire it up and update to the latest to fix issues with 1.4.5), and in fact preware often gets releases faster because of Palm's processing delay.
If you're still having issues on 1.4.5 please post in the VBA thread and I'll help you :)

I can't find this in the app catalog at all..when I type in the name of the app it says no application found..btw I'm talking about VisualBoyAdvance not no name. And I have a sprint pre with the 1.4.5 undate..can anyone help me
Either grab it from preware (FREE!) or to use the app catalog version, go here:

Just because someone joins a Palm page on facebook doesn't mean they own a device. Also, they might have had one but have since moved on to another device and didn't "unlike" the page. they really think I'm going to pay 5 dollars for an emulator that lags and won't play the audio right.
Just Pray that webOS isn't soo big that Nintendo will know about this and have the emulator removed :O
