Get pseudo-Exhibition on your pre-2.0 webOS device 26
webOS 2.0 may not be out and ready to install on your Pre or Pixi, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get Exhibition running on your phone. As PreCentral forum member Honis pointed out in the comments of our Developers and 2.0 post, it’s possible to get something like Exhibition running on webOS 1.4.X. All it takes is some homebrew action, thanks to the full multitasking capabilities of webOS.
What makes the action happen is the homebrew app NoDoze. As the name might imply, NoDoze’s raison d'être is to keep your phone from dozing off as it’s apt to do when left alone. NoDoze quiet simply keeps the phone on so long as the app is running. As Honis points out, combined with apps like ClearCard with a clock or a streaming news webpage you can have pseudo-Exhibition running without having webOS 2.0.
Of course, leaving your phone completely on isn’t quite the same as Touchstone-triggered Exhibition, but we’ll take what we can get until webOS 2.0 finally hits our phones.

Seeing as webOS 2.0 will have this Exhibition mode, does this mean the next webOS phone will be touchstone compatible?
Yes.
Awesome.
only downside is no compass. Magnets in backcover would make a compass spin in circles
are the magnets in the cover or the touchstone? no reason to have them in both...
you need them in both so they stick to each other...
Couldn't they make the compasses turn off while on the touchstone (electro-magnets, though I'm picturing a normal compass, and can't see how to do that)? Or even leave them on, just they won't work? No one is really using the compass and a touchstone at the same time.
and im sure when 2.0 comes out homebrew will solve the problem of only having one app doing it at a time.
You could use mode switcher in combination with NoDoze to get the "touchstone aware" action. I might try a set-up like this, this weekend. I was using the TS clock app and Modeswitcher for awhile, but I didn't really like the clock.
Touchstone capable new hardware is a must, considering I have 3 touchstone setups...
Yes, totally agree!! I have four touchstones set up. Very large part of the reason I like my Pre and am willing to wait for new and improved hardware.
Can't you combine this with mode switcher to activate when on a touchstone?
Ok, so there's a FirePlace "Eternal Fire" that will always stay on when it's on my TouchStone. I have it on now just burning away. I'm looking forward to cold weather so that I'm not so hot when that app is running... but i digress...
Don't we already have the ability for Apps to always stay on?
Or use Mode Switcher to have to screen always on while on the charger.
To the point of "stay on" apps and TouchStone trigger on Mode Switcher:
I have MS set up so that when I put my Pre on the TouchStone after a certain time at night, Rockus Sound Machine starts up and automatically begins playing the last soothing sound chosen, and Timepiece opens immediately afterward and displays the digital time (at a nicely adjusted brightness). And Timepiece has a "Screen Always On" option so it doesn't go away.
So yeah, with a combination of homebrew and certain apps, I already have a version of Exhibition mode working. :)
A slight digression:
I'll have to put this on another forum, but wouldn't it be cool if Mode Switcher interfaced with Govnah so that regardless of screen state, once the phone hits the touchstone it automatically selects a lower clock speed setting? I'm just saying! :)
I thought Govnah already lowered your clock speed while it's on the charger/TS. Mine does.
Right, because of screen state. But I think if you have an app running that keeps the screen on even on the TS, then it will run at the higher CPU setting. Haven't confirmed that, but that's my guess.
nope. Even with app running govnah clocks down on touchstone...
Oh cool. Then I retract the digression portion of my post. Thanks.
Is no one going to say anything about the "quiet" vs "quite" thing?
No.
We're quiet used to that sort of thing already..
Front page mention! :D Do I get free candy?
My suggestion was before I stumbled on Mode Switcher. Thanks to everyone who is suggesting it.
Also be mindful, you're running apps while charging which can lead to a very warm phone. (Pandora + + TS Chargeing = warm everything).
Add Ancient Pond to the list. I love to leave this running at my desk.
I just want the next phone to have the touchstone-ready backside come stock.
I'm pretty sure it will. With the high integration of TS mode, the Pixi ships with it, pretty sure the Pre+ shipped with it, and the distribution of the TS throughout HP I can't see a reason why the next Pre model would ship without it.
it probably will. I believe the plus versions came with it.
