GetGlue coming to webOS 29

by Nathan Mylott Wed, 26 Jan 2011 9:49 pm EST

GetGlue is on its way to Palm devices, bringing the full experience to Palm fans and negating the need to use the mobile web version of the service.

If you are still unfamiliar with GetGlue, it is a social check in app similar to Foursquare or Gowalla except instead of places, you check into books, games, movies, music, tv shows, wine, celebrities and topics of discussion. It uses your check ins to recommend new things you might like.

Syntactix announced plans for the app on its blog, dubbing it Project GotPaste. It will be the first of the company’s apps to use Enyo, Palm’s new development framework. This would indicate that it might be some time before we see the webOS GetGlue app since Enyo has not yet been released.

Syntactix is seeking feedback from current users of GetGlue on other platforms, or potential future users, about what things are missing from the apps or what we would like to see add in to the webOS app. You can email them your suggestions at gotpaste@gosyntactix.com.

Social apps and twitter clients are all well and good, but where is my MS Office compatible suite? Two years since the Pre was announced, 18+ months since it was released and we still don't have the ability to edit documents and spreadsheets.

Wow, that has absolutely nothing to do with this article. Good job, troll!

May be a bit trollish but I do agree... btw bankerdanny that is slated for 2.x update...

This is the highest hurdle on the course for selling slates. How can I trust them to make a good slate, when they still have not completed the phone O/S more than two years after they "announced" the Pre.

Feb 9 is just another date in my slow to load Pre calendar.

So they say, but I am pretty sure they said the same thing about the 1.4 release almost a year ago.

Hopefully they'll be able to deliver.

LOL - you said 'slate' :-)

They wrote about a social app, I acknowledged that they were writing about a social app and I complained that the Pre doesn't need another one of those, what it needs is a proper business office suite.

Apparently if you were King of the Comments, comments would be limited to the subject of the article. Unfortunately for you, you aren't, and they aren't. :(

I don't think he is a troll in any way! I feel exactly same way. I love WebOS more than any other OS but I don't give a crap about these stupid social networking "crapps". I don't have time as it is not to mention for all the useless stuff. I am seeing more and more useless apps trickling down the pipe into WebOS before we know it it's going to be like iOS except they have a lot of productive apps such as office for crying aloud.

I am pretty pissed off about not being able to edit office documents as well or keeping a simple spreadsheet up to date. I could do that with my Centro! Geez ... and I am still waiting to get a basic voice recorder on my Pixi+

To sum it up I agree with logical folks not everyone plays games and checks into these time wasting places. Some of us have to work in our offices and on the go and with phones that call themselves smartphones but can't even do basic PDA functions.

Yeah, a comment about an abundance of social apps and a lack of certain productivity apps has nothing to do with an article about the pending addition of yet another social app. smh

NOTHING to do with trolling - when I saw this article, I came to the comments section to post the exact same sentiment, only to find that the very first post - and EVERY post so far except yours!! - had already said the same thing. Well, OK, not EXACTLY the same; I was going to say that I'm sick of social networking apps when I still don't have the level of PDA functionality I had on my Treo FOUR YEARS AGO!!

If I wanted to play games, I would have bought a Nintendo DS. I got a Palm to help organize my time, not find new ways to waste it.

yes I can't wait for this!!! I hate using the mobile site.

I like that it's going to be based on Enyo!

I'm sure it'll be nice, but does anyone else wish Syntactix would go back and polish up Pack 'n' Track a little bit first?

For one, seeing the default packages every single time that you load the app gets old fast. Maps load ridiculously slow. It takes a long time to update each package at times. Etc.

It's a good program, but the polish is missing. I of course don't mean to berate the developer, because I use YouView every day. It's just that Pack 'n' Track 'feels' like an RSS program that was converted into a package tracking app more than it feels like a good standalone tracking app, and I feel like it could use work before they start something new.

... But maybe that's just me.

Not to mention the high price for the app. It should be one of the most polished, best supported apps in the catalog.

Sounds pretty cool.. Can't wait, oh wait... Yes I can, I'm a #webOSfaithful

this is like dessert

Oh joy. Another social check in app. Somebody douse me with cold water to temper my excitement. We all need more mind-numbingly useless fatures like this.

Select teams likely already have enyo, although palm hasn't released it to the general early access dev's. I feel like it will look bad to launch a large screen device that has absolutely no third party applications so I think Netflix,Hulu, Amazon, etc probably already have some variant of the Enyo framework they're building apps in.

palm sucks balls! I'm not a troll. I'm sending this on an ancient palm pre that I lose in between my car seats ever 2 hours. I have uberkernel and preware. I loved palm at one time. My phone is ancient. I give them my love and all I get is a funky **** pre 2. Wtf?

I wanted somebody to feel my pain. I was venting. You suck too.

far from a troll... Just another frustrated webOS fan like me probably. He made it on topic in his own frustrated way. We don't need more social media decks etc. ... How about , even, a pdf reader that actually reads pdfs without crashing? Anyone?

Someone should tell GetGlue to quit wasting resources on a dead OS.

Seems like a solid app. Any word on Skype,Shazam, or Music Junk. Maybe some new exciting 3d games?? 2.0 Update for Pre(-)?? Haha just sayin.

Um, OK. So, for giving up my privacy, I am rewarded with... stickers???

never heard of getglue. but then again i don't foursquare either.

It's got a lot to do with it. Not everyone buys a Pre to tweet their mates. I had to move back to BB to get work done, and one of the main reasons was the lack of document editing.

I couldn't give a crap about Facebook or Twitter, where are the alternative mail clients? Calendars? They haven't been touched since WebOS launched.

Well, Nate, it's about time, right? ;-) Hopefully it will turn out even better than the official apps, a la zhephree's foursquare app for webOS. Thanks Syntactix!

Sweeeet!

Never heard of this...
