Google Latitude on webOS: Visible after Patch
Sure, the quiet changes made to Google Maps on webOS devices recently are quite nice, but it is a little short on some of the fancier features we'd like to see on the service (notably: Street View). There's another Google Maps feature we've been lacking, the friend-finding, stalk-a-riffic Google Latitude location sharing service.
Enter Forum member d.moss, who has discovered that if you apply the iPhone User Agent Tweak in WebOS Quick Install 2.96 and then punch "latitude.google.com" into your web browser. Instead of getting a message that Google Latitude isn't available, you get your Google Maps app loaded up. It jumps you right into a friends-view where you can, yesiree, take a look at their location..
We just tried it ourselves and it does seem as if much of this is built for webOS but some parts aren't quite fully baked yet -- navigating around and using the back gesture will eventually make the latitude features go away. We do see options for sharing your location and the like, however.
So while it's not quite usable on a day-to-day basis yet, big ups to d.moss for discovering what appears to be an upcoming Google Maps feature on webOS. Hopefully we will see it official soon! In the meantime, hit up the forum thread for more screenshots.
Thanks to windzilla for the tip!
