AT&T HP Veer 4G available today - who's getting one? 98

by Tim Stiffler-Dean Sun, 15 May 2011 6:25 am EDT

The Veer is here. We've been waiting patiently for the first member of that trio of devices announced on February 9th this year has finally arrived: the AT&T HP Veer 4G is available today. Last week we posted our comprehensive Veer review, and now it's your turn to try out the device for yourself and put it through that sometimes horrifying test called "everyday life."

The Veer is available through AT&T and Best Buy, where it is $99.99 with a two-year contract at the former, and free at the latter (store links below). Both establishments are offering the Veer off-contract as well, asking a steep $449.99 for the privilege. Strangely, unlike our previous information, AT&T only seems to have the black Veer online, while Best Buy has both the black and white models available. What's available in stores may not necessarily reflect what's available online. Still, you'll probably want to hold the phone and marvel at how small it is before plopping down your hard-earned cash (or signing away the next two years of your life).

Additionally, the old Palm.com website has seen yet another front page revamp, this time going all HP-dark to coincide with the Veer launch. HP's taking a big gamble with the Veer, and now we're going to get to see if that gamble finally pays off. So we have to ask... who's planning on getting an AT&T HP Veer 4G? Oh, and we've got a dedcated discussion forum for the Veer all set up for when you do get one, of if you're still considering the buy.

Finally. My wife can get her Veer today (and for free too).

How for free?

Best Buy's deal is free-ish. Still requires a two year contract though.

Go here, its "free". You won't pay for the phone but you are still lock down for two years.

Me!!!

I just got a palm pre 2, but my girl is giving up her evo today and going to a superior os! Going to bb in an hour to get it!

Hp about friggin time. All is well that ends well.

I can understand ditching the Evo, but from 4.3" to 2.7", from WiMax to HSPA and even worse Sprint to AT&T??? I call BS! ;)

Wimax really aint all that. Its really slow in pittsburgh. Hspa might perform better in my area.

I was just teasin', hope she likes it. White or Black?

Not everyone wants a huge slab in their pockets, and this is even worse with women since they use tighter jeans.

just checked att wireless, hoping to see the veer displayed somewhere on front page. Nothing. off course 2 iphones(iphone 4 and 3gs) on front page. I can't believe they don't even display veer on its launch date. The only way to find Veer on ATT is if you knew it was there. Way to encourages Veer's sales, ATT. (And then att will say to HP in a few months, you know your device didn't sell that well. huh. guess why? ATT= Dumb smucks)

Yup, I just did the same, to see if the advertising has improved...nope. Although I'm waiting for the Pre3, I hope the Veer does well today.

BestBuy isn't advertising it either. And no local stores in Columbia, SC have one. What a horrible launch!

maybe those who get the phone today should be sure to submit a review of the phone online with ATT and BestBuy. I can't get the phone because I'm on Sprint and am still holding out hope for our next WebOS device.

I think its a soft launch! that's what i have been hearing from ATT reps.

I think it's a soft excuse for a smartphone.

Not I said the skeptic.

WebOS by HP is like toddlers and light sockets. You learn your lesson the first time, then decide it hurts less pull the cats tail for the next two years.

No, I'm on Sprint and I want a Pre3. Plus my contract doesn't run out till the first of July and hopefully we have the Pre3 and TouchPad to play with by then.

Looks like a great little phone, but for many reasons, I'm not willing to ditch my carrier (Sprint) in order to get this. If Sprint allowed you to swap phones out (ala GSM), and I had the money, I'd get this, a Pre 3, and a Touchpad, and take 1 (or occasionally 2) with me wherever I went. :)

It's still hard to believe that HP is releasing this piece of trash at all. Reading through the forums is good comedy as the blind fanatics try to justify bad reviews or lack of any marketing.

You can go to HP.com and see that they don't care about phones. The only category you see them in are Tablets. HP shows little understanding in marketing to consumers, and an unwillingness to put webOS on proper display on its home page.

The poll should include another option: Sure, when it comes to Sprint.

You mean to say there's a new webos phone coming out today? If I hadn't been reading this site for thae last 3 months I'D NEVER KNOW! Seriously... Whoever is in charge of this launch should be fired. This whole thing smells really bad to me.

You didn't know? There was a commercial for the Veer on TV that came on after every single Verizon Thunderbolt commercial.......

/sarcasm

No marketing, exclusive carrier (i understand it can only be on AT&T due to it's tiny size), and the carrier obviously could care less. I am definitely waiting on the Pre3 hopefully on Sprint. I would use the Veer if I could. No way I am switching to AT&T for this. Pre3 would get me to switch to any carrier period.

Why do you say it can only be on AT&T? The Veer is bigger in volume than the Pixi and the iPhone and they are on Sprint and Verizon. I don't see any reason why the Veer couldn't be.

Whats worse than a creepy lady whispering sweet nothings?

How about not saying anything at all? Just went to AT&T's website:

- Nothing on the front page... except those two iPhones.

- At the bottom, it says "New Devices" and this is what I get:
LG Phoenix™
LG Thrive™
Motorola Atrix™ 4G*
HTC Freestyle™
HTC Inspire™ 4G*

- When I go to shop the phones by putting in my zip code, I'm met with a Palm Pre Plus on the first row, a Palm Pixi Plus on the second row. Further down I get refurbished models of those phones. Then, somewhere passed the middle of this very large page, is the Veer.

Same thing goes for Bestbuy. It's a new free phone on contract and it's not even in the ad this week. Going to go to Bestbuy soon to see if they even have it in store. It's pathetic really.

That list doesn't include the Samsung Infuse, either. That would make AT&T the dullards for not advertising either of their new devices, and not HP. Neither, then, is it a slight against webOS.

Does it come with a magnifying glass?

That's what she said.

Poll should include.

'I would/might but I'm not on AT&T.'

Cool little phone. If comes out on Verizon, will be interested in one for my daughter.

Yep! Me too!! My 13 year old loved it when I showed her pics from the Think Beyond event!

WOW, 83% no on a webOS dedicated site. I think that about sums up the launch reception.

Welllll, I dunno if that's fair. I imagine 83% of webOS enthusiasts know the Pre 3's coming and would be more interested in the big beast. The Veer really seems like something for the Centro (noob) crowd.

(Although you're right. I wouldn't have expected the margin to be this big!)

Not really a wow. It's still an entry level smartphone and many Precentral readers are looking beyond entry level.

Also, while it would be a compelling upgrade for Pixi owners, most of those are going to still be on contract for several months to come.

Then you have folks who won't accept AT&T as a carrier. Sure, the phone can be had unlocked but few in the US buy unlocked devices as the carrier subsidies are too tempting. Take an unlocked Veer @ $449 or subsidized @ $99 or less. Considering the carrier monthly fees aren't generally discounted if you don't buy a subsidized phone there's little incentive to buy one at full price.

Personally, I want a slightly larger, not smaller, screen than my Pre and I absolutely refuse to business with AT&T (to the point that I'd not carry a cell phone if they were the only provider available to me).

The Pre was considered an entry level smartphone. I'm not sure why they think people want half baked, incomplete experiences for their first smartphone while still paying the same monthly fee :)

I would disagree. The Pre was a full-fledged smartphone on the same level as BlackBerrys and iPhones of the time. The Pixi, with it's lack of WiFi and slower CPU, was the entry level device.

Cheap and small make it a "starter" phone. The Pre fits the bill.

The rest doesn't matter.

That's what I always say. "No, I don't care about UI or function. I only want anything you have with a 4 inch screen that costs $200 because that's all that matters."

It's not that 83% vote no on buying, it's that it is not available on Sprint. I am sure that if it was on Sprint the numbers would show more buying it.

and VZW

The major flaw of the Veer is that it's interesting enough to look at but not compelling enough to adopt as you own phone. Most people say it's might be a good phone for someone else. It's kind of like the Miata of smartphones.

What are you talking about? I highly recommend the Veer for you but not me.

That's an awesome summary of this phone. Every time I see a link to a "positive" review in the forums (inevitably with a 6/10 score, of course), the reviewer says "You know, if you happen to like this niche and like WebOS, this might not be a pretty nice...."

There's never any personal passion or evangelism or calling it "The Best ___________" anything. Even HP and ATT are blah about it.

There really should have been some sort of "different carrier" option in the poll. If BB was offering this free on Sprint, I might actually be considering it...

Glad not to have the temptation with the Pre 3 looming on the horizon, I guess.

I stinks that we keep having to qualify these things, but maybe it's another intentionally quiet launch? Palm and webOS have been in limbo for a long time and the Veer isn't strong enough to pull them out by itself. The Pre³ and the TouchPad are, but they're not out yet… which would bring up those feelings of Grrr we felt after Feb 9th… if we let it.

Why would you release a product and intentionally hide it?

Not sure what TP and P3 is going to do for HP either. The tablet market is pretty saturated now. There is no compelling reason for an average Joe to choose TP over the others since TTS soft problems Joe doesn't know he has.

Pre3 is still a slow 3G/3.5G device, still unsupported by the app market and will always have the stygma attached to it. It's not dominant hardware, it doesn't break any ground and while the o/s is still snappy, what is there for it to multitask?

Is HP going to suddenly push a button and develop a passion for WebOS? At that point, will the world care? How do you fix the damage, when your competition has a more compelling product, market share and user loyalty?

Thing is we knew this is what was going to happen. If HP at least put out a decent ad campaign. There wouldn't be as much negativity toward them. The way this is being handled speaks volumes about how the company feels about it. (Just get the **** out there and we will write it off) That's the sad part here. It just reenforces the comment that was retracted about they weren't in it to make phones. Well actions speak louder than words. Right now the silence is deafening!

Just got back from the ATT store. What a GIGANTIC disappointment, from start to finish. I waited in my car for the doors to open at 11:00. (There was no one else waiting.) When the kid finally opens the door, I see all three employees, wearing their cool "Samsung Infuse" T-shirts. I ask him "Where's the Veer?" "HUH? Where's the beer?", he replies. And, he wasn't joking. He had never heard of the phone, had no idea it was from HP, and was being released today. When I pointed out these details to him, he pointed to his shirt and said, "This is the big phone release today!" I simply pointed to the still empty door and said, "Yeah, look at the lines of people waiting to get their hands on it." He had no comment, after that. He then had to search the store to find it. When he finally did, I found the phone not even turned on. I had to go through the startup, only to find there was no profile in the phone, so it wasn't even in a useable state. When I mentioned that it would have been nice if it was at least turned on, he said "Well, this is the first day for it." "How about your Samsung Infuse, which is on it's first day today. Is that one turned on?" "Well, yeah."

I got to see it (in Black, no less), and finally compare it to my Pixi Plus. I could live with this phone, especially if it has the far superior guts of a Pre2. My biggest hangup is that dang magnetic adapter. I just can't see that being strong enough to hold my headphones on in my pocket.

As much as I tried to be positive about this launch, sadly, all the nay-sayers were correct. Another launch disaster for HP/Palm. No one knows about the phone, nor will they, unless they hang out here.

I want to plus this post, but I feel as though I need to minus it for the experience...(I guess I stay neutral) Nice write up on a bad day for HP (again!)...

Minus it? Make my lousy day WORSE??? :)

Clarification: You mean Samsung Infuse, right? The HTC Inspire was released in February.

Your confusion is of course understood; all these blandiose names, mostly for Android devices, has gone way past annoying.

Yes, I corrected it already, but thanks for the heads-up. My brain was still a little over-heated by the time I got home. :)

"HUH? Where's the beer? HAHAHAHAHA." Dang, that's pretty sad. Well, although I plan on getting the Pre3 I'm gonna head out to my local ATT store to see how the launch day is going.

P.S. Did they even have a TV commercial for the Veer?

I was at an ATT store today and had almost the exact same encounter. The phone was not turned on and the staff was wearing samsung infuse T shirts. The rep tried to use the Pixi to demonstrate the phone.

I'll get the veer when it comes to verizon.

Buy one of these? Are you kidding me? Though it would make a nice Christening gift.

I'll go look at it today/this week. I'm not getting it at retail price (got a Pre Plus on AT&T launch day last year, so my contract is still going) and I'm not replacing a Pre 2 with it.

I might want one as a dedicated MP3/podcast player--especially since I could download files right to it, and I prefer not to use my main phone. What I'd want to see, though, would be a new accessory. Something like the headset adapter, only with a MicroUSB port (much more portable than the cable, especially if you have anything else that takes MicroUSB and need that cable anyway). Or better yet, one with both the headset jack pointing up and MicroUSB pointing down.

I walked into a AT&T store today and not to much surprise they were all wearing Samsung Infuse 4G shirts... The receptionist greeted me and offered to assist me. I asked about the Veer, yet she claimed that they "don't carry a phone by that name" I insist and she goes and asks someone in the back and comes out several moments later. Her reply was "Sorry, but we're not putting it out today..."

I am dumbfounded... I remember on AT&T's launch of the Pre +, I saw a Palm representative in the store insuring the device was properly set up for display and customers can actually browse the device. This time there was nothing... Maybe because it was on a Sunday who knows...

Best Buy also did claimed that they were not carrying it in stores today. I asked them when, and the guy was not sure but to check back tomorrow.

I walked into a Best Buy mobile store and they never heard of the Veer. They were surprised that it was released today.

I then walked down the mall to the AT&T store and they also have not heard of the Veer. One guy said 'Oh you mean that little funny phone. We don't have those. They are not released until later'. I called them idiots and walked out.

HP is in trouble.

If it wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious. Everything we thought would go wrong with this is happening and then some. Ugh. I'm not going to blame the droids in the stores (Most couldn't give a R@ts behind about what they sell). This is solely on HP's back. Were they soo desperate that they agreed to anything?

I'm really hoping/waiting for Pre3 on Sprint, but I checked Best Buy, and there are NO Veers available in store anywhere in my state! WTF?!? Marketing, HP?

HP/Palm have STEADFASTLY refused to consider licensing webOS to other manufacturers. After today, I have to scratch my head and ask, "WHY?" If this is all you are going to put into a phone launch, how in the world could handing it over to another company be worse? I am so disappointed by this. I really wonder if I have just wasted the last two years, hoping against hope, that the best OS out there would pull through. Being an English soccer fan, I should be used to this. Over there, they have a saying: "Hope is what will drive you mad." Well, I'm over the cliff, now.

Best Buy didn't have one and the sales rep I talked too might as well thought I was speaking Dutch or something. AT&T store had one, but only in black and only one (I think I bought what was supposed to be the floor model). In any case, my wife LOVES it. Even the sales rep went "holy **** that's small!"

i had to go to 2 different best buys and three atts to find one that they didnt even have activated and i had to wait for them to turn it on and get a profile and all there focusing on the infuse att store manger said its problaly a corp thing if it is someone needs to get fired as for the veer its faster and works better then my pre- but its still kinda lackin
for the record i live in mass

I'm curious if people from HP read these comments. Part of me does and doesn't. They may read them but either don't care or are not in a position to make a change. Either way if they are at all happy about this they should be shot.

The posts about people jumping through hoops to find this phone are a terribly sad commentary. What does it take for a cellular company to make sure the product is available? I'm not a stone thrower but this makes At&t look so bad. In store employees (the voice of the company) uneducated on products (availability, features, product name etc.) These employees should be some what interested in current technology developments. The Veer launch has been covered by the media for weeks! I can't even imagine how disconnected you have to be to miss it. This being a Sunday launch is no excuse for the poor handling. HP should have partnered with At&t to ensure some sense of cohesiveness. Words can't express how disappointed I am about how these two companies have dealt with this launch.

And I'm a Sprint customer

Remember a few months back when Leo announced the TouchPad2 had been moved over to the HP laptop division? I have to wonder if HP is letting Palm handle the launch of the Veer while HP handles the launch of the Pre and TouchPad. If the launch does poorly, HP may take over all of Palm and let Jon to just doing design.

That being said, silent launches is an HP trait. They don't get as much publicity as Apple, but they still manage to sell more PCs than Apple. So this isn't too out of the ordinary.

I think people need to not jump to conclusions based on this launch. The Veer doesn't represent HP's first step of trying to survive; it represents HP's first step toward global domination. HP said they could have 100 million webOS devices in the hands of consumers next year. The Veer is not the end, it's just a warning shot.

Besides, in about a month, some Veer users are going to wish they had a slightly bigger screen. Then HP launches a tablet that has a bigger screen and can sync with your Veer. *ka-ching*

Sounds like a plausible business plan. Upsell to the handful of Veer customers who were already presold on WebOS and able to find a unit today. Global domination is assured shortly thereafter.

Also..."IF the launch does poorly...."LOL. Read this page, sir.

This is actually entertaining to read. People are actually going to ATT or BBuy to see what's up - and then they don't even have them setup on launch day. But they are all wearing t-shirts for the other phone released today.

In the end, HP phones will be for HP employees. Until things fade away. Or WebOS for the enterprise only - consumer market continues to fade away. So very sad indeed.

Completely agree. I've been extremely disappointed in the way HP has handled the Veer. I too went into multiple Best Buys around my area and not a one knew about it. Anyone know of a good email to HP/Palm we can voice our concern about this??

Option 6 = I'd love to, but I live in an unsupported country :-)

Who's getting one? Well not me. No Best Buy in the state has one. Neither of the ATT stores I went to had one, although one had a dummy model. The guy at the other hadn't heard of it, checked some documentation and said they weren't getting it in the foreseeable future. Looks like I have to know it exists, then order it online without ever having played with one. Another non-launch. Good luck HP.

Just checked upgrade options at AT&T -- they're offering the Veer with two-year contract renewal for $299 with a $100 instant rebate, presumably in their usual debit card. Great way to hang onto your old customers.

I was at a Best Buy and AT&T store today. Not on display at Bust Buy but then again it was early - just after opening. It was on display and functional at AT&T in Apex, NC. Impressions?

Wow, is it small. I was not ready for the size. Impressive job to shrink things down to that level.

It's a better looking device than the Pre2. It's more refined and polished. I like the chrome accents.

Build quality seems better than the Pre2 I have.

Typing on it is as easy as on my Pre2. I like the clicky feel of the keyboard. I'd have no trouble adjusting at least with typing.

Functionally, it performs tasks as good as the Pre2. This is only based on a trial but it did what it was supposed to with relative ease.

Getting used to the small screen would be tough, but if I were just using it for a phone and light work and had a TouchPad for everything else I could see going with this combination.

Wow, I can't believe how small this thing is.

Overall, HP shows that it's light years ahead of where Palm could ever hope to be in terms of procurement, industrial design and production. If the larger Pre3 is anything like this device it is going to make a lot of people on this site very, very happy.

As for the Veer, I'm not sure how well this will sell. My 12 year-old son felt it was too small for him and he was excited about it. I trust that there's a target market for it only I'm not sure what it is.

I will say it's an impressive device on it's own. I'm just not sure how competitive it will be in today's larger is better market. Hopefully, we'll see some spin from HP soon. Maybe tonight's Chicago-Miami basketball game is a good place to start. HP is a sponsor of the NBA so who knows?

Nice review and insights.

I am as confused as everyon else. Went to A few AT&T stores before finally getting my hands on a Veer. The rep seemed a little shocked at first when asked if they had the Veer. He went to the back and seached around for a while and brought the Veer out in black. Had not even been turned on. No demo unit. No info about it. There is zero percent chance the phone will sell at all unless you read PC. How can it sell when there isnt one out to know it exists?

The AT&T store I went to had it hooked up and displayed with all the rest of the phones, it was dead though. No info next to the phone, (Infuse didn't have anything next to it either) I think different stores are more efficient then others with getting their products ready. What it tells me though is that they weren't told to have it ready and up like they would for maybe the IPhone 5.

My BB didn't have anything there either.

I live in Evansville, IN. On my way to work tonight I stopped by a AT&T store. I just wanted to see the Veer in person and check out the keys so I didn't notice what kind of shirts the reps were wearing. But I was greeted as soon as I walked in, said I was waiting for the Pre3 and just wanted to check out the Veer. The rep immediately said "Oh, yeah, it's right over here. We just got it in today. Let me know if you have any questions." I didn't experience any of what the rest of you are talking about. Maybe it varies from store to store?

wow. I cannot agree enough with the previous posts. This device is being sold in a vacuum. For the record, i have owned a Palm Pre, and now a Pixi, which I prefer. My goal today was simple: purchase a white Veer, preferably for free. All of the Best Buys in the Portland area and the market above us were not stocked. When I asked the Best Buy teenager why they had no HP devices, she pointed me to the computer section. Both reps working were unaware of this product and that HP had a phone. After begrudgingly looking it up on her computer, she found no record of the phone and any plans to carry it in the future. She surmised that it was available on-line and likely to remain so for some time. I went to the AT&T store where they had one display model which had just been plugged in, and not connected (and yes, everyone was wearing the black t-shirts for the REAL smart phone they were promoting-the Infuse.) After convincing the teenager to boot up the phone, I found out that the store had none in stock. And, the stores that did have them in stock (1-2 devices per store) were black. It appears AT&T has no plans for selling the white version found in so many review models, nor does it appear to be advertised in the websites the employees have access to.

This is a launch worthy of the Titanic. Seriously, HP who do I have to sleep with to get a white Veer? Jon Rubenstein, please call me.

Sad... but funny!

Regrettably I think this veer thing is going to fail horribly. Bout an hour ago I walked into the local AT&T store, was greeted by an employee and when asked if I needed any help, I inquired about the veer. She had no idea what I was talking about and insured me the Infuse was the only phone debuting today. I reassured her the veer does exist as of today. While that associate brainstormed with 4 others to figure out what this crazy guy was talking about I spotted a display model myself and excused myself to go play around.

Personally I'm waiting for a (Sprint) Pre 3 to replace my Pre- but I do see the marketability of the veer for some and wish it the best of luck (especially if high Veer sales will help support WebOS). Problem is, how's it going to sell if AT&T employees (who have been staring at it all day) have no idea what it is.

Here we go again. Is anyone outside of this site aware that the Veer launches today?

You can have the best *whatever* but if no one knows about it... well, if you know the answer to that then apparently you are way too qualified to work for HP's marketing division.

Veer = Pixi 2.0 (and I'm sure we all know how well the Pixi did sales-wise)

I am trying to be upbeat about WebOS devices but, my goodness, this thing doesn't have a chance.

It's all over twitter. It might be a mistake but Amazon is selling this black Veer for $50 Off-contract. Just purchase one and hope it goes through. HP Veer for $49.99 NO CONTRACT. Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00505SPYS/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_alp_Lch0nb1CX...

Same experience here at a Best Buy store near me. Nobody knows about Veer and not where to be found. Hopefully someone at HP notice this.

I tweeted Palm about Best Buy not carrying Veers and left a Facebook message, too. We'll see if they respond or send out some brand ambassadors.

Whatever is not being spoon fed to the public will not be much of a success. For whatever reason, this product is being put back in the cereal box today, for people not to see.

Maybe it is a short delay so they can put focus on the big-screen TV released today - then they may be suddenly aware of the product in a few days to weeks. Sales people take directives from bosses and it goes up from there. There may be a commission-based reason today to play dumb and only speak of the new TV. However, when I sold phones I was very aware of new phones for the day - and I would not try to appear dumb to the fact just to add a couple bucks to my wallet. So, who knows?

If HP dropped the ball and created late shipments or low supply, then I could see this happening. Otherwise, a new small niche smart phone like this should not be so held in the dark.

I am one that does not want a big screen in my pocket. Some people do and that is their choice. But I want as much as I can get in as small a form as I can get - and after researching OS's I want it to be WebOS based. I will wait for the Pre3 to arrive before choosing between it and the Veer - but they better both be in stock for me to do so!!!

I went to the AT&T store at Bellevue Square (Bellevue, WA) today. They had a black Veer out and all set up with an AT&T-specific Exhibition app playing. Though there were a lot of people in the store, no one was playing with it when I went in, so I jumped right in.

I have a Sprint Pre- (1.4.5), so this was my first chance playing with a webOS 2.x device. Probably because of how outdated the Pre- is now, I was so impressed with the Veer! Build quality was great, and the tiny-ness is simply a wonder to behold. The keyboard, like most others have said, is awesome--way better than my Pre's. No problem with lag. It's just plain zippy, and it would be an incredibly capable companion to a TouchPad. Did I say the hardware felt solid?? Oh man I am so excited to ditch my Pre- for a new device... though still waiting for a Sprint Pre3.

One great thing I noticed was with the camera. There is NO LAG and you can shoot maybe 1 or 2 shots per second. This is AMAZING in contrast to my Pre which takes like 5 seconds for a single shot.

I noticed the same thing with the camera. very fast, including the keyboard which has a better feel than the original Pre which was gummy and occasionally buggy. It's more like the Pixi, which is close to perfection for me. I have turned off the camera flash feature on my phone and have used it maybe a handful of times. The lack of flash is okay with me.

Similarly, I noticed in the store that the magnetic charging adaptor seemed not to fit properly, which was a little disturbing. I use my touchstones at home and work, and never use the charger it came with. Same for the headphone jack, as I listen to music on my iPods.

I really enjoyed the build and speed (we are exceptionally well-covered in my area of Portland.) Look forward to eventually getting one. When HP deems me worthy : )

Thanks for your impressions. I have an overclocked pre- too....the precious moments I've missed with my two daughters because of the laggy cam are staggering. I love the pre's physical keyboard but because I'm so ready for something different, I'm all over the first "all screen" webos phone.

I got my daughter one today and she LOVES it. The AT&T store I got mine from only got 2 devices and had no accessories yet. Hopefully the Pre 3 will come to AT&T and I can get an upgrade for my phone that will be up for upgrade in September. Veer, Pre 3 and TouchPad under my roof would be pretty cool so here's to hoping.

I would assume that this Saturday was "earliest availability" and not "hard-core launch day."

They likely need to get more product in the channel and kick off the marketing push at that point.

As noted earlier, HP is more of a "drip marketer" -- they ship lots and lots of product through numerous variations and channels. Anybody expecting an Apple-style "TA DA!" marketing campaign will be disappointed, I'd bet.

Too bad there isn't "No it isn't on my carrier" option for all those who want the phone, but don't want the HUGE price of switching phone carriers just for a phone. I'd get this RIGHT NOW, but I'm on Verizon so it won't happen any time soon....

Why is my comments being flagged as spam????

I wonder how many veers were not sold because of hp/at&t lazy marketing strategy?
