Grooveshark 1.2 update brings dashboard, filters, and more 22

Grooveshark If you’re looking for an alternative to Pandora for your music streaming needs, look no further than Grooveshark. Unlike Pandora, Grooveshark allows you to play the songs you want and combines it with an advanced recommendation engine. Those recommendations are also tied into the playlists of other Grooveshark users you follow (assuming you and your friends have similar musical tastes).

Grooveshark’s webOS app debuted earlier this year and recently received a hefty update. The new Grooveshark 1.2.0 brings a long awaited notification area dashboard player for controlling the streaming music playback from within other apps. There’s also now a shuffle mode option for your playlists and search filters to better narrow your results. And if you happen to be in a poor signal area, Grooveshark can detect that and serve up lower bitrate tunes for continuing (if lesser quality) music.

The app has received a number of other smaller updates, tweaks, and bug fixes to bring it to the big one dot two dot oh. Check it out - Grooveshark is available for free from the Palm App Catalog, with full functionality offered through a $3 monthly subscription, which by the way, allows you to stream copies of your own music. Cool, eh?

i like grooveshark... im still dont think i would use it enough to want to pay for it. perhaps the next big update will entice me to buy

Seriously? You don't wanna pay a paltry $3 a month for on-demand access to over five million songs? Your loss I guess.

I've been using GrooveShark for the last week. With them putting out this update it shows me they have an interest in webOS, so I bought the VIP last night. I also found out that December 1st they will be raising the price(though they have not said the price yet) but if you buy before December 1st your locked into the 3 bucks a month or the 30 buck year as long as you keep your subscription with them.

I think they have a great app and would/have recommended it to many people(no matter what device they have) already.

I'm not sure if others are having this problem but when you pause your music and you lock the screen the music will start playing again all by itself about 10 seconds later.

Also they did not add functionality for Bluetooth controls, I really do not think that would have been too much to add this into the app. It would have made this app a lot easier to use especially in the car ride home.

But I do have to say it is now usable, before this release I would get through like 2 or 3 songs then it would have a network error and lock up.

If they can get the Bluetooth controls added and work on the screen lock auto play issue this would be a 5 star app.

I don't have this lock issue you are having. I would uninstall the app and re-install and see if that fixes it.

bluetooth has nothing to do with the app as long as your deck, pc ect has bluetooth youcan play your music through bluetooth

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but you can actually close the main app and the music will continue to play, as long as the dashboard is still open. Apparently the music is actually coming from the dashboard, which is pretty neat.

I noticed that too. I think it's a nice feature when you don't want the whole app open. I also noticed the dashboard closes when you close the main app and no music is playing.

The Guild is so awesome...Felicia Day is a babe, too.

I like Halloween candy.

Been a VIP Member for awhile. Love Grooveshark, use it at work on my desktop and on my Pre constantly.

I like the update because now I can actually listen to songs without network errors, dashboard notifications, and overall a much more stable experience. However, we're still missing the ability to view songs added to our virtual music library via grooveshark desktop or web. This really annoys me because this means I either have to keep my music in a bunch of playlist or one long favorites list. If the updates are going to take this long we really need some more solid/basic features in the app. I still love me some grooveshark though. Keep your eye's on rdio...basically spotify for the U.S. and you get to keep songs for offline play.

They should definitely get a more regular release schedule now that webOS 2.0, Palm Pre 2, and other devices will be coming out. They already have library and offline for their apps on Android and iPhone, so I have to assume those features are on their list for webOS as well.

The only complaint I have is since the update it requires that I sign in each time I load the app. It does not store my account info like say Slacker or Pandora.

Had the same issue, uninstall and re-install.

This is what I have been waiting for! I've been a VIP subscriber after using grooveshark for a couple months and deciding I had to have it on my Pre. I haven't bought or pirated music since, so to me its worth the $30 a year that would otherwise only nab me a few albums worth of legal music.

To get around the issue of not being able to see your My Music section on the mobile app I've added all my music to a playlist called library. That was I have access to all my of specific playlists, and then my entire music library. The only thing I felt was really lacking (enough for me to email grooveshark about and get a very nice response about) was that there was no shuffle. I had to listen to my thousands of songs in order. This meant that to get variety when listening to my music I would just skip songs a lot but now there is a dedicated shuffle. Score!

The only other area that I wished would improve is that there were times when I didn't have enough signal for GS but I could listen to Pandora. I'm assuming the new bandwidth detection will clear that up some too.

I'm stoked about this update XD

I like Grooveshark. They are responsive & even used some of my ideas in the new update! Great concept for a good price.

Great app, just wish it BUFFERED your playlists like the Android Grooveshark app. Would be great before I get on the subway to have 5 or 6 songs queued up and ready to go.

this has always been one of my favourite apps. Only Notes do I love more :)

Fun app but for the price of $0/month I prefer Pandora, slacker and my internal storage. If I was going to pay for a music service though, this is the one I'd get.

Interestingly enough, I don't like the dashboard. In fact, that's why I love Music (Remix), I can turn the dashboard player off!

I use Grooveshark like all the time. Mainly when I drive. One thing that needs to be fixed is a pause when a song finishes. This is kind of annoying because sometimes it takes up to 10 to 15 seconds until it starts playing the next song. I tried out the Groovee free app, it doesn't have this pause but doesn't offer very many features. Maybe I'm too picky.
Overall, it's very nice. This app causes me to use 5G's of data. Good thing I have unlimited.

Dang, I'd probably pony up for the VIP price, if my headphone jack weren't a piece of $#!@.
