GSM German Pre to receive update for easier APN configuration
Sure, the Palm Pre comes unlocked from O2 Germany, but it turns out that getting it to work on your carrier of choice might not be as easy you might like. While for many it works just fine, some have run into an issue trying to enter the APN (Access Point Name) - webOS simply didn’t support the entering of an APN by the end user. The folks over at PalmInfocenter have noted that Palm has seen this and promised a fix on the way, finding this in an FAQ on O2 Germany’s website:
“Palm is working on a fix to support the entry of APN by the user. This update will be automatically be [sic] installed on the device. After that, you will have the possibility [sic] to enter the APN data yourself.”
Of course, to download a webOS update you have to activate the Pre and get it online first, so good luck getting that update on the network you can’t get working.
In the meantime, webOS Meta-Doctor is your get-it-working-without-activating-friend.
