GSM Pre and Pixi Talk, Android Defections and More... From the Forums 18
by Robert Werlinger Tue, 18 May 2010 3:40 pm EDT
Here's some of the latest talk in the forums:
- The GSM Pre form is alight with activity since last weekend's launch of the device on AT&T. User dbd wants to know just how you new Pre Plus owners on AT&T are liking your new device, hollabak009 wants to know how your in-store experience went, and berdinkerdickle wants to know what kind of call quality and reception you're getting.
- The Droid Incredible may be one of the hottest Android devices on the market, but that hasn't kept member techiegirl from coming to their senses and grabbing up a Pre Plus complete with the free mobile hotspot.
- The launch of the HTC EVO is right around the corner, and fredfox19 wants to know if you Sprint premier members out there are going to stick with Palm/HP/webOS or make the jump.
- New Pre owner SuzukiGS750EZ is wondering if Preware is worth using. The answer to that question is, of course, a resounding yes. Beyond the great resources available to webOS users in the forums, we have an in depth getting started guide. Go forth, patch, and feel free to take part in the homebrew telethon!
We look forward to seeing you in the forums! Not already a member? Join us!

Thanks, Robert.
:)
We welcome all new PRE Owners...
I don't really use preware anymore. It takes too long to load and when it is loading It makes my phone really slow. So I can't multitask for 20 minutes. Maybe it's just my sprint pixi. I hate how slow it is. Can't wait for the next webos phone ^_^
have you updated to the newest version of Preware? It is much faster now! And if you don't theme, disable the theme feeds. If you use Palm App Catalog for updates to official apps or to buy official apps, then disable that feed too (you can leave palm app catalog update feed on and still see if updates). Now try, preware loads in under a minute now with those modifications.
To fredfox19, I'm a sprint premier member, I love my palm pre and it's gonna hurt letting my pre go, so come june 4th I'll be one of the 50,000 pre owners jumping that ship until palm/Hp/webOS come out with a new device.
I'm amazed how many people are thinking about jumping ship for Android. Google will have to step their OS up several notches before they get my business.
Sorli...
the EVO is intriging but after the 800 mhz patch it's not even an option. I have invested to much money and time with my pre to jump ship after 1 year. With HP in I am really excited about the tablet prospect and "better" hardware. I'm gonna ride the pre wave as long as possible
Ha,ha! To all you EVO jumpers, think again. Specs: EVO processor is 1ghz. Palm has a contract with Texas instrument & currently uses ARM Cortex-A8,which is lower to 600mhz.The next ARM Cortex-A9,which palm going to use will be the(qual-processor)@ 1.6ghz each.It can output 1080p HD right out of the box,for video,& camera HD output, with 10-12mega pixes in the camera or video recording.EVO CAN ONLY outout 720p which is cool, but for the future phones it will be ok,nothing special. Now,with that in mind of palm's next processor,it will destroy EVO.I like webOS operating system, the hardware part is ok,i'm not too crazy about it,but the software system is what i like the most.I'm sure palm will make better& bigger phones later, for the future.Android is cool, but i'm not too much into the widgets things.Just saying....
I loved the pre but app makers are not coming to palm as the other markets. The best apps are really going to iphone and android market.Plus Evo and new iphone will make it hard for pre.I will make the jump to android but will see what palm comes out with.
I really like my Pre. I've had it since the launch but, the Evo is just too cool to pass up. I'll be jumping ship for 4g. Sorry Palm, I tried...
I like the new anbroid & EVO phones coming out and could be tempted. But I have not seen anything to match the potential of Palm OS. Hp/Palm hard ware. Faster software, the new tablet/Slate with multitasking... I'm sticking around!!!!!
I'm getting on the EVO express, I've already bought my $50.00 tickect from Best Buy for a June 4th boarding. mmm... Yes the WebOs is kick ass, but that doesn't overshawdow the crappy build quality of the Palm Pre. When I read people's comments about the next Palm phone coming out, I ask myself if that is going to be something we see in 2010, or 2011. If it's 2011, then as a Premiere customer, I'll be using my annual upgrade to get this fabled device. Until then, I'll leave behind the slow, slow, slow operatin system. I'm tired of having to do patches, for basic functions that should have been in the original hardware. Even with the 800 mhz patch, the Pre is still slow to me. I equate it to giving a starving person a cracker, and that person in return swears I gave them filet mignon.
But hey, I'll definantly get the HP/Palm tablet when ever that comes out. The WebOs is second to none in my humble opinion.
nice for all of you...now get off the page
Come june 4th when i throw my pre out the window we won't be on this page..:)
Just do it now and go away. But of course there will be dozens of people who just HAVE to flood the forums with their godbye stories. Yawn.
As a current owner of the Palm Pre, I must say that I will sadly miss it. When I purchased my phone back in July it was severely limited in what it could actually do. Heck the App store had less than 50 apps for consumption. Thank goodness for the Homebrew community or it would have been dead on arrival. Fast forward to today; the Pre now does everything I need it to do and more. But sadly, the screen size has begun to become a negative for me I simply need more real estate. And to remedy that, I must now move on the greener pastures. The EVO fits the bill and then some. If Palm could have built this http://twitpic.com/1j6x12 (Palm Pre II mockup) I would still be on board. But I'm afraid that future releases are on hold until the HP deal consummates. The only thing that bothers me about the EVO and other Snapdragon powered phones is the GPU. The GPU on chip of the Snapdragon is definitely inferior to the Pre, iDont and Moto Droid gpu processor. Although I don
Sticking it out for the C40. 800mhz patch did the trick to hold me over for now.
I'm staying, the pre is perfect for me, I don't want some 4.3in screen beheamuth! I am a man and am not gunna carry around a murse for my phone. I think the physical size of the pre should stay the same. If they can squeeze a 3.7 in there, sweet, but as long as it's not crazy, it's a phone 1st off, let the tablet be a carry on device
