Homebrew Spotlight: Beerology 101 10

by Robert Werlinger Sat, 28 Nov 2009 2:09 pm EST

I'm an avid beer drinker (probably too avid).  Living in the city with the most brewpubs per capita in North America really has a tendency to do that to you. Keeping track of the multitude of breweries and the hundreds (!) of beers available can be a daunting task.

Beerology101 can help.

Features:

Beerology101 has literally hundreds of different beers in its database. You can search beers by style, color, and country of origin.

When a beer is selected, you can see all of its details including ABV, calories, carbs, style, color and country of origin. You can also read ratings and reviews, as well as submitting your own.

You can add beers to your favorites list, rate and review them, and flag incorrect or inappropriate items.  If you can't find the beer you're looking for, you can also submit your own entries. And if you're feeling generous, you can share beers with others over SMS or email.

What better to highlight said features than a quick screen cast:

Beerology101 has made my drinking life better (I may or may not be under the influence while writing this), and I'm pretty sure it can do the same for yours.  Hop (get it?) on over to the homebrew section and give it a try!

Love the app!!!! Very good quality! I use it all the time. Good work.

Not really sure what a "brew pub" is but if you're looking for the city with the most pubs per capita in north america you need to keep travelling 6000km east to Halifax NS!!!

The first link I could find to back this claim:

Yea, Milwaukee's the only town that has a major league baseball team with a beer name, "The Brewers" who play in "Miller Stadium". Milwaukee WI, is often referred to as Brew City.

Beer live here baby!

A brew pub (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microbrewery) is, as the name implies, a pub that brews beer. Portland Oregon does indeed have more breweries than another city in the North America.(http://www.travelportland.com/media/mbmedkit/mb_facts_trivia.html)

Good app!!! I keep meaning to add some good beers in there. These light beer people kill me with their reviews. Light and crisp, not to heavy.... BLABLA. I want a beer that makes your toes curl and you have to let you belt out a couple of notches.

I was planning to get that other phone that Verizon announced today. But after downloading BeerApp and using it to drink beer all day, I can't quite remember what that other phone was called. Snoid?

But doesn't this app only work at homebrewpubs?

Two words....Guinness Draught
Simply the Best

I'm really fond of it but I hardly think it's the best. It's a mass produced light bodied stout and doesn't really stand up to craft brewed stouts any more than Bud stands up to a well made lager.

That said, I love that it is a beer with really low alcohol but a good taste. I can drink a lot of them, not get faced, and enjoy the flavor, unlike most low-alcohol beers.

Awesome program. I just wish I could add my favorite beers from Italy.
