Hotmail to get Exchange support; will finally push 34
In what has to be one of mobile tech's more extreme ironies, users of Microsoft's Hotmail email service have been suffering without proper Exchange support on most mobile devices for some time while Google has been offering ActiveSync for months now. Hotmail users haven't even able to use proper IMAP for syncing folders and read status.
That indignity will soon end, CNET reports, as Exchange ActiveSync will finally be available next week for Hotmail users.
What does this mean for you? Well - mainly it means that if you're a Hotmail user you will be able to re-set-up your email account as an Exchange account and get the benefits that brings: push email, sync'd read / unread / deleted statuses, folders, and the like.

Thank god. Tired of deleting messages in two places.
Cool
hotmail still exists??
Exactly what I was thinking?
and people still use it?
Yes, since my whole email history is there. MSN recently made some major improvements. Yay that syncing and push are coming so I can finally get to all my many folders on my pre plus!
I got rid of hotmail due to lack of quality spam filters and having to delete in two places. Yahoo! was a better interface and at least tied into my homepage. Seems Yahoo pushed the envelope more than Microsoft but less than Google. Not going back to Hotmail now.
Hotmail lost me with the lack of push... no gmail just collects anything still going to my hotmail and pushes everything to my phone. Won't be going back to hotmail, there are a few things I like about hotmail over gmail, but overall daily use gmail is much better.
synced my hotmail to my other gmail, haven't used hotmail since, little too late
this might get me to use that abandoned account a bit...
So now I don't need to make a Gmail account to POP3 my Hotmail to so I can use Hotmail via IMAP?
I've started using hotmail more frequently now that they have their new inbox. This just puts hotmail on par with gmail, seriously. Hotmail has gotten LOADS better. Thanks Microsoft.
It was about time!
love the new mobile site w/ microsoft!
ok, that's enogh first, quickoffice and now this, is a compiracy so I can't try wp7.... Sad
Supposedly the Palm Pre only syncs the main calendar, onlike the iPhone, which syncs all available calendars. HTML emails show up as attachments on the Palm Pre as well. Ironic, given the fact that webOS is based on HTML.
These limitations have nothing to do with MS, so HP Palm can make this work eventually.
I still feel silly for not having switched to Gmail years ago. But hey, maybe this EAS thing will make Hotmail great again.
Now I can get rid of Gmail. Sweet!

Is this a joke? A hell of a lot more use hotmail than gmail.
Do they still attach that stupid signature to all your emails? Gmail does not.
They no longer do that. Https is coming too, along with subfolders.
When Live Sync is integrated into SkyDrive, the Live Services will be on par with Google Apps. Perhaps a bit less open, and more cartesian, but very competitive nonetheless.
Now I'm just hoping ActiveSync will work with Desktop clients as well.
who uses hotmail still??
I thought i was the last person i gave up on them when I got my Pre and have been gmail ever since.
Everyone once in a while I check it again and i realize how much it sucks now.
Hotmail is to email what Internet Explorer is to web browsers.
They both suck and clearly lag behind the competition, and only survive now because of past fame/success.
Cant live off the past forever though..
I still use. Hotmail FTW!!
I still use it. Hotmail FTW!!
YES THANK YOU E-MAIL GODS FOR THIS!
Finally. I've been waiting for this since July.
One less reason to miss Blackberry features. Only BBM and push notifications to go! w00t!
Finally! I thought this would never happen! I've been thinking of transferring everything to Gmail but it would have been so much work! I've been using Hotmail for probably 15+ years!
My worry is that my Exchange contacts and my Hotmail contacts will all get jumbled if I add Hotmail Activesync. I hope that there is a preference option to only sync the Hotmail email and not sync the contacts... I probably have 500 or more contacts in Hotmail that I no longer use/double entry/etc, and I don't want to go through the pain of sorting through them. Whereas, my Exchange contacts are all important and I keep that tight.
