How to: Export your webOS contacts to CSV 33

by Dieter Bohn Thu, 10 Jun 2010 1:35 pm EDT

webOS's Synergy feature is nice and all, but let's face it: sometimes you just want to get your contacts exported into a Comma Separated File (CSV) file so you can import them all into Google or Outlook. webOS definitely has a 'client' philosophy when it comes to contacts - it's easy to bring stuff in, not so easy to push stuff out.

Enter chaosrecords in our forums, who has put together a handy guide for how to export your contacts from webOS into a CSV file you can then use as a handy backup or for import (possibly with some tweaking) into another system. Sprint users (and possiblly others, including Bell users) have a simple method: ##66623# on the dialer jumps you to a screen that lets you get a simple export dumped into the USB storage on your Pre or Pixi.

That code doesn't work on AT&T (and seems sporadic for others), but fortunately for homebrewers there is a patch by bsiegel for exporting your contacts, as Derek wrote up this past January.

Source PreCentral Forums. Thanks to @MrKal_El for the tip!

awesome!! I've been looking for a simple way to export my contacts for a while now...(i tried the patch in preware, but for some odd reason it didn't work for me)

Wow. Just how many hash codes are IN this phone! :)

Edit: My first 1st! I'm a kewl keed now. Lol :P

I'm not finding the "temp" folder. Hmmmm.....

amazing!! This hash code brings up CelleBrite. They make software to transfer data between different cellphones.

The amazing thing is that CelleBrite is BUILT IN to the Pre. Who knew!? CelleBrite's web site doesn't even acknowledge the Pre as a supported phone.

I suspect Palm put this in to help dissatisfied users dump their Pre (or Pixi?) for another phone. But who cares? This is another great Pre feature. Built in CelleBrite.

Almost makes up for the weak Bluetooth implementation!

Hey there... I actually went through CelleBrite's site and it is listed as a supported phone... ohh well, @ least it is :)

Got it. Set to view hidden files and folders. Very nice!

Nevermind, I figured it out.

@holotfi2003 you need to make all your folder visibles go to tools>>>folder options>>>view>>> and show hidden files and folders! and there is .temp!

thx!!

For AT&T: #*6623# + SEND. Same interface. Exports as VCF though, not CSV and I only see one contact. Has anyone actually opened the file?

Update: Opened the file in Notepad, all contacts are there, but neither Outlook or Palm Desktop will see more than 1 contact. Next will try import to Google.

wow awesomeness!

i only got one -first- contact transferred for some reason. do i have to wait long? i have development mode enabled, does it affect anything? how long do i have to wait for a complete transfer? please help:)

##66623# = ##NOMAD# 8^D

The menu tab for the app that opens is "Monad", so I assume this has some meaning or connection to Cellebrite.

Indeed, but NOMAD is a better mnemonic. Data migration.

Any one know if Telefonica has a similar code???
Or the other carriers for that mater

I have a an if-up script on my phone that automatically syncs some things for use in programs on my own network. Pretty sad that it was easier to do it that way than to use Google's APIs.

For those who are getting the contacts exported as a .VCF, and are Outlook users (or other users who get only one contact when they import the vCard file), I recommend using the free tool vCardOrganizer ( http://www.micro-progs.com/vcardorganizer/ ) which will let you split the big vCard file into individual files for each contact. A quick search for "vCard splitter" turns up similar programs for Mac and Linux as well.

Maybe I'm missing something. I usually sync with my Google account, then export from there. Would this then also get me the information that isn't in my Google based contacts? Like those phone numbers that the phone pulls from Facebook?

Exactly.

I have contacts in: Exchange, Google, LinkedIn, Facebook and Palm Profile. This would export them all into one file. Thank synergy for the consolidation and de-duping.

That's fantastic! Just what I needed :) Thank you.

#66623# opens the celebrite app on my sprint pre. Not sure how well it works until I get to my desktop later. But thanks for the info.

that's #66623##

I guess I dont know HOW it works? I did the ## code - it opened and I selected cellbrite - it then said to plug phone in and select the USB which I did ...

I found the .temp folder adn didnt know what to do with it , so i clicked the file,. now i have 400 plus windows opening saying

"add a contact" not responding

what do I do , what is this?

**edit** nevermind I figured out how to get it into gmail contacts :)

the code also works on Verizon, but the only problem is I couldn't find the csv file on the USB drive.

Yes YES YYYYYEEEEESSSS! Thank you Thank you Thank you. Thank God, finally after 6 months when the DTA malfunctioned, and the palm rep didn't know what she was doing, and royally messed up my stuff, followed by 6 months of fighting with the morons and sprint, and jerks at Palm, my contacts are backed up with Gmail. You wouldn't believe what I went through trying to get it done, and now thanks to the power of cooincidence I did it following these steps. (which is no small feat for me). I only wish that Palm and sprint would have released this information from the start it would have been easier on me, and I would have been easier on them.

Note, for AT&T you substitute a * for the 2nd #, ie:
Use #*66623# then Send then follow the prompts.

I can bring up the Cellebrite app, but when I click the export button, it sits there saying "Step 1: Export File..." for several seconds and then gives me the following error message:

Error

Could not create temporary file!:
{"errorCode": "ErrorGenericMethodException", "errorText", "Service Method Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException"}

...and when I then plug the pre into my computer and mount the drive, I don't see any .csv, so the export clearly failed.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any known solutions? I have plenty of free space on my pre, so I'm not sure what else I can do to try and fix this... Thanks! js

Hi, anybody know the code for O2 UK Pre?
thx

My pre recently broke and I discovered there is no way to access the palm profile except through a palm device. As soon as I got my phone back, I switched to gmail as my default contact account, but even after a sync it doesn't copy your palm contacts to gmail. ##66623# is a great solution! Thank you! 5 minutes later I did an import of the vcf file it created to gmail and my contacts are safe and accessible :)

Please help. I'm not very tech-saavy have followed the instructions but I don't see any file on the palm pre drive that looks like contacts. Where can I find that data?

I am only getting the first contact in my address book..

What am I doing Wrong??
