HP announces developer pricing for AT&T Veer: $279 21

by Derek Kessler Mon, 23 May 2011 3:59 pm EDT

If you were wondering how long it would take for the Veer to be added to the HP webOS developer pricing program, wonder no longer. HP today announced availability for the AT&T Veer in the Developer Device program, and for the low price of $279.00. That’s a good bit less than the $449.99 a contract-free Veer would cost you from AT&T, and less than you can get through resellers like Amazon.

The developer Veer is still carrier-locked and only packing AT&T bands, so if you were hoping to grab a Veer for use in your home country that happens to not the United States, you may be out of luck. If you’re a developer interested in getting discounted pricing on a Veer (for testing, obviously), hit the source link below for sign-up info.

Are you going to delete this post too Derek?

Yes, please do it.

why would he delete this post?

You need to not be so angry.

5 comments and 4 thumbs down. Can you read between the lines, Rambo?

That's good to see that they're courting developers.

Hope they do a similiar discount for the TouchPad.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't.

I wouldn't be too surprised if it was a slightly higher discount either, since they need TouchPads in developers hands more so than phones since it's practically a completely new platform

They won't discount the Touchpad because HP currently lives in a distorted reality where the touchpad is actually a compelling product for consumers. I would be VERY surprised to see a 'developer' touchpad for $350-$400 despite the fact that sales will be lackluster.

There are obviously not as many webos developers as iOs or Android, etc.... And you do have to be a qualified developer to get dev devices...

So why not give the devs a discount on devices.

HP comes out better not matter what. Doubt they'll take a loss on it. And they'll get more apps in the process (which is what webOs, in general, needs more than anything).

I've developed some apps for webOs. Got the unlocked Pre2. And I'd be interested in creating some Enyo based apps, as well. Sign me up for a TouchPad.

I think I'll stick with my Pre 2 and Pixi Plus for now. Might change my mind when this is available as an unlocked GSM device. That said I don't see any apps I might develop as being resolution dependant, so I might not need it.

Sucks for developers who paid full price for one though, wonder will HP reimburse them.

Agreed. I have no interest in an AT&T-locked device, even for use a dev phone.

Disappointing that HP thinks that developers in other countries don't matter.

No reason why an unlocked phone could not be sold in Canada or Australia for example. We still cannot buy an unlocked Pre 2.

In the case of Canada, there's nobody to blame but the consumers themselves.

The people here are so obsessed with those bloody three year contracts it's not funny.

*sigh*

Impatience gets me again. Just bought an off-contract Veer from Amazon this week. I hate cancelling pre-orders for stuff to save money because it means I will get bumped back in line. $70 difference.

i wonder if the in house HP developers are getting the phone for cheeper or free.... either way... here's hoping for 10,000 aps by the end of summer...

what about developers outside the US - if HP really wants to push app dev they should reach as many developers as possible... not just in the US

Yep! - great, what about UK devs. I have some projects I want to get started with, but until I have a phone (Veer/Pre 3 etc), I won't even start!

Start now using the SDK and the emulator. There is no reason why you can't start now.

Agreed
